I need some ideas but have probably left it too late.
Kids are late teens and early 20s and all free to join us.

At this stage it's too late to go anywhere so I would probably host a party for a few friends

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/12/2023 22:54

A few friends coming round for drinks and games. Everyone is bringing a cocktail and a board/platter to share.

Tonight1 · 27/12/2023 23:13

I was unwell over Xmas so if still poorly I'm staying right here on the sofa.

If I'm better I'll travel to my friend's, we'll have a few snacks then he'll go to the pub and I'll stay in and watch the midnight celebrations on TV. He knows I hate busy pubs where people are rambunctious.

Scotland in the campervan. We have a meal booked in the local pub on NYE. Kind of wish I wasn't going now because it's wet and windy and we were invited to a party but 🤷‍♀️

PandaG · 27/12/2023 23:25

Hosting a dinner party. 10 of us, each pair bringing a course. Will also be hosting a nyd brunch after we all do park run. Nyd breakfast used to be a, necessity so we could all pick up our kids who had slept over at the hosts so no one needed a babysitter, but these days our offspring are out partying themselves m, but are generally delighted to appear at whoevers for a fry up and maybe a board game.

oneflewoverthe · 27/12/2023 23:28

Drinks and dinner at home. Watch the fireworks on tv at midnight.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 27/12/2023 23:31

Staying in for the first time in years - always find it such an anti climax so a nigjt on the sofa with a nice drink to toast the new year in it is! Weather not looking great so more than happy with this plan!

FluffyDiplodocus · 27/12/2023 23:43

Just DH and I, we’re staying home and planning to have Prosecco and Camembert, watch a few episodes of Schitts Creek and do a murder mystery thing that MIL bought DH for Christmas. Time depending we may play scrabble too. Totally wild 🤣

idontlikealdi · 27/12/2023 23:50

Nothing. It's liberating. I love Christmas but NYE is a pain. I don't want to stay out till after midnight, pay double for a meal and an Uber etc etc

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/12/2023 23:52

Going for a meal at lunch time with Dh and ds and his gf then back to ours before they head off to see the fireworks and dh and I will see the NY in quietly with a drink.

ShouldIbeLeftWithLess · 27/12/2023 23:53

Nice dinner or picky bits and party games with the DC (7 and 8). Might watch the fireworks on the telly.

Gingernaut · 27/12/2023 23:57

What's in my head : i am doing fuck all.

Worked Christmas, so all the hoop de hay of New Year's Eve can fuck off.

The world can fuck off, the fireworks can fuck off, the rowdy drunks can fuck off, the overpriced venues can fuck off, the ticket only places which were free entry pubs a few hours previously can fuck off - seriously. Just. Fuck. Off.

What comes out of my mouth: Nothing much, just having a quiet night in.

RJnomore1 · 27/12/2023 23:57

We are going out in Edinburgh. Nice meal, pulp gig, lovely hotel. Mega excited.

spookehtooth · 28/12/2023 00:01

Nothing, might even be in bed before midnight. I've never really been enthusiastic about NYE. I might go on a walk with friends on New year's day tho

Tonight1 · 28/12/2023 00:02

@Gingernaut 😆

I feel the same about the rowdiness. So many people seem to get frenetic. Quiet nights in are nice 😁

I do like watching the round the world celebrations though

OhChristmassTree · 28/12/2023 00:03

Just staying in with the kids as usual. I'm happy with that though.

I'm not sure how I'm going to make it special though and keep us occupied until midnight! Maybe some board games and a film if we can find one they will both watch, which seems nearly impossible!

PickAChew · 28/12/2023 00:05

Beating DH at Scrabble, like I always do. It's the only time he agrees to play it 🤣

NotaCoolMum · 28/12/2023 00:07

Sitting in my Oodie all evening with my dog and watching rubbish tv. Bed most likely at 10. My idea of heaven!!

MorrisZapp · 28/12/2023 00:15

Nothing really, staying in with DP and DS. We live in a top floor tenement though so there's plenty to observe and enjoy standing at the window! The dear old lady over the road always opens her front door to let the old year out, I love that.

nokidshere · 28/12/2023 01:26

Keeping everything crossed that DH will be out of the hospital 🤞🤞 if he is we will watch crap tv and have an early night.

If he isn't I'll probably doing silly group chats with my sisters around the world.

Tonight1 · 28/12/2023 01:36

@nokidshere thoughts to your husband

LangMayYerLumReek2024 · 28/12/2023 01:41

Extended Family, steak pie, clootie dumpling, booze, board games and watch the fireworks out the window at the Bells.

IHateLegDay · 28/12/2023 01:45

It'll just be DH and I and our two young DCs.
I'll probably make a dinner a bit more special and once we've put the kids to bed, I'll open a bottle of something.
I'll either bring the new year in scrolling through instagram in bed or asleep 😂

FlippityFloppityFlump · 28/12/2023 01:52

We're having a get together with friends and kids on 30tn which will probably be a lateish night for the DC. So we're going to stay in NYE, maybe do some sort of online escape room and have a takeaway.
I doubt I'll bother staying up until midnight. I find it a bit meh.
Then the plan is to drive to the beach (about 1 hour 15 away) for a walk on NYD. I'm really looking forward to starting the NY off like this as being by the sea makes me feel so much better mentally, it blows any stress or worries away

I hope that he is ok and home x
