I need some ideas but have probably left it too late.
Kids are late teens and early 20s and all free to join us.

I’ve just booked us a few nights away so will pack up the car today do a quick food shop and away we go…

Will probably cook a lovely meal and have a glass of bubbly with DH

I am amazed at the amount of people on here that play board games. I always wondered who kept these companies in business and now I know!
I will be in bed by 10.30pm, always found NYE a bit depressing, even when I was younger. 2023 has not been great for us, so I am glad to see the back of it.

In my fantasy NYE celebrations we would be at a nightclub called 'Le Chat Noir' or 'The Orchid Lounge' with a group of amusing and entertaining people, all dressed to the nines, drinking delicious cocktails. We would dance on a black shiny (non slippy) floor to classic 30s/40s music played by a big band. At the strike of midnight there would be a balloon drop, confetti and streamers.

OR, In a big barn having a hell of night at a ceilidh, there would be a light covering of snow outside when we bundle up to go and watch the fireworks at midnight.
Then back to more dancing!
In reality I am peopled out at the moment, so it will be movie night and watching our neighbours fireworks.

Whatever everyone is doing, I wish you all:
A Very Happy and Peaceful New Year.🎇

Board games in my house are a must. Too many kids on phones so board games are a refreshing change

Ebokebok · 28/12/2023 10:06

I will be taking a sleeping pill and going to bed early!

Snowflakecookie1989 · 28/12/2023 10:07

Chinese takeaway and TV. I hate new year as find it so depressing 😔

Cyclistmumgrandma · 28/12/2023 10:08

Sleeping! Need to be at the airport early New Year's Day..

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 28/12/2023 10:18

Night in for us as I'll be 34 weeks pregnant. (Plus DP hates going out for new year anyway!)

We'll probably cook a nice meal together and watch a movie!

GigiAnnna · 28/12/2023 10:18

Probably a takeaway and a bottle of wine. I don't really like new year, can't be bothered going out and it would be too much hassle getting the kids babysat so we stay in every year.

Polis · 28/12/2023 10:26

We will be seeing the new year in at the local pub. Fancy dress is expected so I’m desperately trying to come up with something appropriate.

Toomuch44 · 28/12/2023 10:29

Meeting up with two other couples. We take it in turns, but I've got a long day at work, so in all fairness other couples suggested a curry at 8pm. The restaurant is a 10 min walk to ours, so we're coming back here for drinks and one or two nibbles.

We're having a get together with friends and kids on 30tn which will probably be a lateish night for the DC. So we're going to stay in NYE, maybe do some sort of online escape room and have a takeaway.
I doubt I'll bother staying up until midnight. I find it a bit meh.
Then the plan is to drive to the beach (about 1 hour 15 away) for a walk on NYD. I'm really looking forward to starting the NY off like this as being by the sea makes me feel so much better mentally, it blows any stress or worries away

Oh a New Year's Day walk on the beach sounds lovely. You've inspired me to do the same. Possibly not on NYD (I get that is somewhat the point) but I'm going to make an effort to do it before going back to work

Iheartmysmart · 28/12/2023 10:40

I’m not a fan of New Year’s Eve and this year has been particularly crap so I’ll sit on my sofa in peace and be glad it’s over.

RabbitsRock · 28/12/2023 12:34

DD15 is away again so it’s just me & DH. Having a nice steak meal & will get Lidl champagne as apparently it’s preferred in taste tests to Moet.
