Was attacked by a stranger a few hours ago, Waiting for the police

I was with my disabled mum and my nan earlier in a supermarket, She had parked in a disabled parking space. We did a small shop then returned to the car and put two bags into the boot, A man in a waiting car shouted to ask if I was 'going to fucking be all night' I got in the car and Mum held her blue badge up to show him then reversed and went to drive away when we heard what sounded like rocks being thrown at the car, Still not sure what it was but he threw something from his car which hit my mums.

Mum stopped the car to check what happened and as soon as she stopped the guy got out of his car opened the back passenger door of my mums car and snatched my phone out of my hands and threw it across the carpark, It smashed into bits. He then grabbed my elbow and dragged me out of the car onto my knees. He then called my mum (trigger warning for the words he used) a spastic cunt and walked back to his car as I got back into my mums and she tried to drive away.

To get out we genuinely had to drive by him and the guy ran back up to the car asking why we were going back around near his family, he then looked at me and asked if I wanted some more.

Was going to report it to the supermarket security but felt so intimidated that we just left. I did call them to let them know what had happened and they said if the police contact them they can send the cctv. Once we got to my nans house my nan, who had been sat in the front with my mum told me she got my mums phone and managed to record the entire thing from him running up to the car and opening the door to us trying to leave the carpark and him coming back etc.

I know this isnt the thing to be focusing on but I saved up for two years for that phone and only had it two weeks, Didn't even manage to get to my next payday on the 3rd to get it insured, I wasn't even filming him was just holding my phone.

What is likely to happen from here once the police have been?

God awful OP how shaken you all must be I hope you get enough info for the police to catch and charge these people, most supermarkets clock to registrations of cars entering it should not be that hard for them to trace the,.

Pugdogmom · 27/12/2023 22:40

How horrendous OP, and well done your Nan. Unfortunately not every Supermarket has CCTV that covers the car park, as we found out after someone ran into my daughters car 😢.
I hope you have phone insurance or that your contents insurance covers it.

Wanderpeg · 27/12/2023 22:40

The police will do fuck all I’m afraid. Forget them.

If you want him to face justice, you should post that video on every social media platform and local Facebook group that you can. The only actual chance you have of teaching this man a lesson is ensuring his employers, family and friends see what he did.

It’s also the only way you’ll actually get the police to do anything, if it gets enough local public attention.

Mothership4two · 27/12/2023 22:44

Thank you @Howbizzare22 this was over 20 years ago and she no longer lives in that area/county and seems OK now (although you never can really tell) and will now walk unaccompanied. They never caught them.

BrieAndChilli · 27/12/2023 19:20

Just imagine what his wife and kids have to go through probably daily! Hopefully the police can charge him and maybe the wife will be able to leave him.

Also forgot to mention his wife who got out of the car to join him, their two toddlers and a baby with her.

By the sound of it she's as bad.

Ophy83 · 27/12/2023 22:46

In addition to the criminal route, you can sue him for assault and the property damage to your phone- you have good evidence with his numberplate and the video, a personal injury firm is likely to take it on a CFA.

Daebak · 27/12/2023 22:46

bluedomino · 27/12/2023 21:57

Don't expect the police will do anything. Even with cctv. They will be too scared to approach him. Police are utterly useless. Still waiting for then to turn up to see an 83 yo woman, and her neighbour in his 70s who were victims of burglary before Christmas. Really clear hand prints on windows. Bloody useless.

I have to wonder what world most here are living in. There is effectively no police force in the UK anymore, not for actual criminals anyway.

Short of actually being in the process of being murdered (or misgendered, apparently they come running for that), there’s no point even calling them.

Post your nan’s video on every local ‘spotted’ Facebook page, on X and on TikTok. The court of public opinion is the only way you are going to get your justice.

Starfish125 · 27/12/2023 22:53

Couldn't not comment, what a disgusting vile man! Actually he's not a man, a real man would.never treat someone like this. Please please go to the police he deserves everything he gets and more.

Peanuts2000 · 27/12/2023 22:55

I'm really sorry this happened to you, it shouldn't have. I really hope that the police push for the highest prosecution, assault, hate crime etc. Also stress that not only was this done to you, it was done in front of their young children.
I hope you get some peace and those scumbags get what they deserve.

remo · 27/12/2023 22:57

I hope this piece of work face severe consequences for his actions and that you and your family are doing ok. Well done to your nan for getting evidence.

I agree with this.

You are dealing with a shameless chav. A disgusting vile specimen with no morals or values. So the best thing is the show the community what he is.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/12/2023 23:00

If your Nan has it recorded hopefully the bullying "big ard bloke" shouldn't be hard to find. If she has his Car Reg it'll definitely lead straight to him.
He could well also be facing a Hate crime charge after what disgusting disablist language came out of filthy uncouth mouth.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/12/2023 23:02

Expose him in Facebook, too.

chosenone · 27/12/2023 23:05

Absolute twat! I hope the Police do everything they can. I’d also do a safeguarding referral to social care myself if i were you. Explain the story and that children were witnessing it. I hope you can claim for your phone as it would make me feel shitty too!

Justia · 27/12/2023 23:09

Apply for criminal injury compensation once you have everything logged. I would recommend booking some sessions to see a counsellor via your gp or similar so you have medical evidence of the trauma which you undoubtedly will have following this.

When they are identified social services may intervene with the kids, they may already be involved.

MadeOfAllWork · 27/12/2023 23:10

You poor soul. I’m amazed that no one else in the car park either intervened, called the police or told supermarket security.

Justia · 27/12/2023 23:10

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/12/2023 23:02

Expose him in Facebook, too.

This is a silly idea and could legally get you in trouble so avoid.

Go through the police and legal process.

LittleMissSunshiner · 27/12/2023 23:18

OK as some have said -

You all need to write down as much as you can remember from your own points of view ASAP whilst it's still fresh in your minds. Try to recall what he was wearing, brand names or logos, type of trainers, any distinguishing features, anything unusual or unique that he said.

You'll need to write witness statements for the police.

The police are not interested in crime these days as we all know. So, you'll need the correct advice on how to put this crime to the police in the best way so that they are forced to record it and forced to take your witness statements, especially since you have evidence and push it through to the CPS to secure a conviction and for you to get compensation.

Taking a one off advice appointment with a criminal lawyer will help if you can afford it or get a free session - some firms do free one off sessions.

This is absolutely a hate crime as mocking and deriding disability was involved, so don't let the police just record it as a 'scuffle'. You have been victim of a hate crime. Also try to think of anything else he said sexist or derogatory etc.

Also phone 'Victim Support' and ask them for help and ask them to support you in making the complaint correctly to the police. Please believe me the biggest obstacle you will face here is the police themselves and they need to act quickly - for example to view the CCTV of the supermarket etc and to apprehend the suspect and interview him.

Also, the supermarket are perfectly capable of reviewing their own CCTV and I would post the footage of this attack to their 'Twitter' / X page or FB page and appeal for assistance.

You could also approach a local newspaper or even a national newspaper about this and they will likely help you.

Take photos of any cuts and bruises and marks. I know your phone is smashed up but did you retrieve it as that is evidence, it may have his fingerprints or DNA on it.

This guy will be known to the police, guaranteed.

I'm so sorry for what you've been through. Life is getting really edgy these days. Please be kind and gentle to yourselves and look after yourselves.

WestwardHo1 · 27/12/2023 23:19

God this makes me angry. Aggressive men who choose not to exercise any self control.

What big men they are <slow hand clap>

I hope you get somewhere with the police. Nail the bastard.

Go through the police and legal process.

Out of curiosity, how?

I’ve seen all sorts of videos of people committing hate crimes online, being racists, attacking people, bullying.

Without fail there is some sort of follow up that they have had to publicly apologise, have lost their job/university place etc.

How can you legally get in trouble for posting a video of the way someone is behaving in public? And why hasn’t anyone else online gotten into trouble when they do this?

LittleMissSunshiner · 27/12/2023 23:25

It is perfectly legal to film or photograph anyone doing anything in a public space. Most especially it is legal to film anyone perpetrating a crime if you think it will provide evidence.

It is possible the supermarket could claim the space is their private property - that's a real long shot, especially as they have no skin in the game of trying to defend someone who severely attacked and abused their customers.

In fact I'd be straight on to that supermarket HQ and be asking for their urgent assistance. They don't want word getting round that their customers are being targeted.

AndThatWasNY · 27/12/2023 23:29

HalloweenIsDone · 27/12/2023 19:56

If your Nan videoed it on her phone why did she not call 999? As it was happening that would have been an immediate police response.

Round our way takes far more time for someone to come out than would be worth it. At least they will have evidence.

Tilllly · 27/12/2023 23:30

Please don't put anything on social media, this could compromise a successful prosecution

Contact the police, say you've been assaulted and your mother is a victim of a hate crime

They will take it seriously

Yes, surely this. Putting it out on SM should surely be the last option, when it's clear all normal channels have failed, not the first.

Messyhair321 · 27/12/2023 23:46

Well you should get a crime reference number and if this leads to an arrest you should get compensation, as far as I know this is the case
