Was attacked by a stranger a few hours ago, Waiting for the police

I was with my disabled mum and my nan earlier in a supermarket, She had parked in a disabled parking space. We did a small shop then returned to the car and put two bags into the boot, A man in a waiting car shouted to ask if I was 'going to fucking be all night' I got in the car and Mum held her blue badge up to show him then reversed and went to drive away when we heard what sounded like rocks being thrown at the car, Still not sure what it was but he threw something from his car which hit my mums.

Mum stopped the car to check what happened and as soon as she stopped the guy got out of his car opened the back passenger door of my mums car and snatched my phone out of my hands and threw it across the carpark, It smashed into bits. He then grabbed my elbow and dragged me out of the car onto my knees. He then called my mum (trigger warning for the words he used) a spastic cunt and walked back to his car as I got back into my mums and she tried to drive away.

To get out we genuinely had to drive by him and the guy ran back up to the car asking why we were going back around near his family, he then looked at me and asked if I wanted some more.

Was going to report it to the supermarket security but felt so intimidated that we just left. I did call them to let them know what had happened and they said if the police contact them they can send the cctv. Once we got to my nans house my nan, who had been sat in the front with my mum told me she got my mums phone and managed to record the entire thing from him running up to the car and opening the door to us trying to leave the carpark and him coming back etc.

I know this isnt the thing to be focusing on but I saved up for two years for that phone and only had it two weeks, Didn't even manage to get to my next payday on the 3rd to get it insured, I wasn't even filming him was just holding my phone.

What is likely to happen from here once the police have been?

Well done to your nun! And it will also be on CCTV.
He needs to face the consequences of this. And the safety of his family needs addresing. If he behaves like this on a public space, with cctv, with a stranger and for the smallest of things, can you imagine how he is at home?

BeadedBubbles · 27/12/2023 19:36

How terrifying for you all. I hope the police manage to track him down and charge him.

Tulipvase · 27/12/2023 19:37

I hope the least that happens is that eventually he may have to pay for your phone. And I mean the very least.

Im so sorry, what a horrid thing to happen. I wonder if anyone else reported it to the supermarket? I certainly would have.

WhompingWillows · 27/12/2023 19:46

@verylongshot I’m so sorry that this has happened to three generations of your family. Go, Nan, for having the presence of mind to record the incident. What an absolutely terrible thing to happen, especially at Christmas. Someone up thread reminded you to speak to the Police about reporting it as a hate crime, due to the offensive slur used at your mum and I totally agree. My DD1(16) is blind and she encounters hostility regularly when she is out and about and using her long cane. I’m sending you my warmest wishes for the best possible outcome from the police visit.

Honeyroar · 27/12/2023 19:47

How absolutely awful. You poor things. It’s hard to believe there are people like that in the world who can get so violently upset towards someone over so little. I hope you call the police asap.

OccasionalHope · 27/12/2023 19:47

How awful. I hope they track him down and press charges.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 27/12/2023 19:47

Good god that's horrendous OP. Thank goodness you're all ok physically but I imagine you're all still very shaken.
I feel worried for his poor wife and kids though in case he takes it out on them so hopefully the police will come round soon so they can trace him.
Christmas is bloody awful for kids and partners of abusive arseholes. Sad

tara66 · 27/12/2023 19:48

What have police said they will do about it?

Gardeningtime · 27/12/2023 19:48

Op with the supermarket cctv and the video then the police will act. Hopefully he is charged with assault. I’m so sorry you went through that and hope you’re ok.

Catsknowbest · 27/12/2023 19:49

Good God how absolutely awful for you all! Your Nan how incredible to record it. I hope he is caught!

LeonoraFlorence · 27/12/2023 19:20

Two toddlers and a baby. Those little souls must’ve been terrified though sadly, I suspect they’re used to it.

Hopefully the police will make a social services referral as well as prosecute him.

SpaghettiSauceOnTheCarpet · 27/12/2023 19:53

Utterly reprehensible. I hope they get him and I hope you and your family are ok. Terrible thing to happen.

Motnight · 27/12/2023 19:54

What a horrible thing to have happened, Op.

Brandyginger · 27/12/2023 19:54

I’m so sorry this happened.

and I absolutely echo previous posters that you need to emphasise the abuse around disability as it’s a protected characteristic and means a more serious charge and sanctions.

also keep mentioning the phone, the cost and that you need a replacement. It won’t happen overnight but the wheels of justice may eventually creak around to reimbursing you.

it’s been decades since I was assaulted but I did get small reparations from the thug who hit me a year after the event.

HappySonHappyMum · 27/12/2023 19:55

I hope you're OK. You'll be in shock right now and it's going to take a while to get over, you'll feel anger, you'll physically ache tomorrow. Take photos of any bruising or injuries that have been caused by him as they develop. Please know that NONE of this was your fault, you did nothing wrong. I hope the police prosecute him - he deserves everything that's coming to him.

HalloweenIsDone · 27/12/2023 19:56

If your Nan videoed it on her phone why did she not call 999? As it was happening that would have been an immediate police response.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/12/2023 19:56

Sadly unless he has any previous convictions the most this man will get is ABH, GBH and criminal damage and verbal abuse and criminal behaviour towards your DM. He’ll probably get a fine, an order to pay costs and compensation and may get a suspended sentence and be placed on probation. Highly unlikely he’ll get a custodial sentence. Make sure you get clear pictures of damage to yourself, your phone and anything else relevant.

You could quite easily engage a solicitor to deal with this but the supermarket may decide to do this. You could request or they could that he’s banned from that branch of the supermarket.

I’m really sorry this happened to you and your family OP, sadly as a pp said this sort of behaviour is getting more common but all of you try to relax and have a relaxing evening.

eardefender · 27/12/2023 19:57

I am so sorry this happened to you and your mum and Nan op, he is just another woman and child abusing man. Hopefully he will go to prison, he shouldn’t be allowed to see the children unless supervised. The police will contact social services re the children. I hope you get justice and recover in time.

AllstarFacilier · 27/12/2023 19:57

It’s great that it’s all been caught on camera, should hopefully make it all easier.

Ramalangadingdong · 27/12/2023 19:58

nameychangio675 · 27/12/2023 19:20

What a psycho. None of that shocks me sadly - I feel like this stuff gets worse and worse. Hope you are ok op.

It is getting worse and worse. Someone forcibly pushed me a few weeks ago. I was so embarrassed that I didn’t tell anyone.

it is really depressing to see this violence and anger all around us, not to mention the gangs of people swooping on supermarkets and just taking what they want. It makes you feel afraid to go out.

Peekingovertheparapet · 27/12/2023 20:00

Omg that is so awful, I was really stressed just reading your account.

you’ve had great advice, and well done to your nan. I’ve been a juror before and one thing that is really helpful in court, alongside the video you already have is documented evidence of any injuries you sustain, particularly images of bruising.

this may not be his first offence, and it will only go to court if he denies it (though bizarrely some people do even when there is tons of evidence). I hope you get things sorted and what an awful thing to have happened to you.

Kirkeee · 27/12/2023 20:01

Sorry this happened OP. Is your phone due an upgrade anytime soon?

ScarlettDarling · 27/12/2023 20:02

How awful, you must be in shock. Really hope the police are helpful. So sorry you’ve been through such an ordeal.

LakieLady · 27/12/2023 20:03

What an absolute bastard. It's worrying to think that someone so unhinged is walking around and allowed to drive a car, tbh. Clearly a hate crime, too, imo.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, you must have been really frightened. I hope that your (awesome) nan's recording and any security footage from the car park are enough for the police to identify him and nick him. Bummer about your phone, too.

What an utter cunt though, to pick on a woman like that.

Irridescantshimmmer · 27/12/2023 20:04

Hope he gets sent down for that OP. Stay strong and hope you press charges against
this imbecile.

Cold blooded road rage. Good job your baby got the evidence hope he gets sent down and tagged for life.
