I was with my disabled mum and my nan earlier in a supermarket, She had parked in a disabled parking space. We did a small shop then returned to the car and put two bags into the boot, A man in a waiting car shouted to ask if I was 'going to fucking be all night' I got in the car and Mum held her blue badge up to show him then reversed and went to drive away when we heard what sounded like rocks being thrown at the car, Still not sure what it was but he threw something from his car which hit my mums.

Mum stopped the car to check what happened and as soon as she stopped the guy got out of his car opened the back passenger door of my mums car and snatched my phone out of my hands and threw it across the carpark, It smashed into bits. He then grabbed my elbow and dragged me out of the car onto my knees. He then called my mum (trigger warning for the words he used) a spastic cunt and walked back to his car as I got back into my mums and she tried to drive away.

To get out we genuinely had to drive by him and the guy ran back up to the car asking why we were going back around near his family, he then looked at me and asked if I wanted some more.

Was going to report it to the supermarket security but felt so intimidated that we just left. I did call them to let them know what had happened and they said if the police contact them they can send the cctv. Once we got to my nans house my nan, who had been sat in the front with my mum told me she got my mums phone and managed to record the entire thing from him running up to the car and opening the door to us trying to leave the carpark and him coming back etc.

I know this isnt the thing to be focusing on but I saved up for two years for that phone and only had it two weeks, Didn't even manage to get to my next payday on the 3rd to get it insured, I wasn't even filming him was just holding my phone.

What is likely to happen from here once the police have been?

@verylongshot I’m so sorry that this has happened to three generations of your family. Go, Nan, for having the presence of mind to record the incident. What an absolutely terrible thing to happen, especially at Christmas. Someone up thread reminded you to speak to the Police about reporting it as a hate crime, due to the offensive slur used at your mum and I totally agree. My DD1(16) is blind and she encounters hostility regularly when she is out and about and using her long cane. I’m sending you my warmest wishes for the best possible outcome from the police visit.

I just can’t understand why people are such absolute horrible bastards to disabled people. Such utter cowards they wouldn’t dare to someone they perceive could stand up for themselves. Im so sorry & disgusted to read your daughter experiences this. What tf is wrong with people makes me so sad & angry x

Mikimoto · 27/12/2023 21:48

Vile and shocking: I originally thought the "only" problem was going to be the disgusting swearing!
I know it's easy for us to say, OP, but please try and not let this spoil all your holidays. Focus on throwing the whole police book at them.

GhostFaen · 27/12/2023 21:50

I’m so sorry OP, that sounds terrifying. Your contents insurance might cover your phone 🤞

If your Nan videoed it on her phone why did she not call 999? As it was happening that would have been an immediate police response.

I imagine this would’ve all been over before the police even left the station in which case there would’ve been no time to catch the guy on camera close up. Police don’t have time or resources to respond immediately as much as we’d like these days either. I think the Nan made an incredibly wise & quick thinking decision under the circumstances!

MsGrinchtoyou · 27/12/2023 21:51

I’m so very soon you were assaulted and that your family was attacked and suffered a hate crime. In your position, I would take the video to the Sun or the Mail but try to negotiate a new phone in exchange for sharing the clip as they will be getting viral hits on their website. Sorry to be mercenary on your behalf but needs must. Failing that, someone may start a crowd source fund. Best of luck in getting this thug banged up.

Lifeomars · 27/12/2023 21:51

So sorry to read about what you, your mum and your nan have been through. Your nan is clearly someone with real presence of mind and I hope her actions lead to this awful person being found, charged and punished. It will not be the first time he has behaved like this. Things do seem to be getting worse these days, my sister was threatened by a beggar as she was parking her car, told her he would kill her unless she gave him cash. She just kept the car locks on and waited until he cleared off. We set off to do what we need to do each day and then sadly encounter nasty pieces of work like that.

Headlightshome · 27/12/2023 21:51

Sorry you had to go through this OP, he sounds unhinged.

givemethetea · 27/12/2023 21:52

@BlazingJune I asked you a question, no need for the dramatic replies, I just noticed you seemed to be quite adamant in what you were saying to another poster and I genuinely wondered whether you actually knew what you were talking about. With how defensive you've got over it, I'll take the answer as it was just an opinion and no you don't actually know what you're talking about. Happy to apologise if i'm wrong though 👍🏻

OP- I hope you've reported it (or your mum 🤷🏻‍♀️) and police take positive action- there are definitely crimes their so they are bound to investigate!

givemethetea · 27/12/2023 21:53

sakura06 · 27/12/2023 21:54

This is horrendous OP. I hope you're ok.

Mothership4two · 27/12/2023 21:56

So sorry to hear this OP. Some people are vile and some (men) deliberately target weaker people especially disabled.

My friend, who has MS which affects how they walk, was followed by a group of men after she left a works do at a pub in early evening and they beat her up (didn't rob her). Not that it matters, but she is a really sweet highly intelligent person - this was a very alien experience for her. Obviously seriously impacted her MH and feelings of anxiety. Police said they probably just went for her because they saw her as weak and easy prey - they worded it much better than that! This was in a small Cathedral city.

bluedomino · 27/12/2023 21:57

Don't expect the police will do anything. Even with cctv. They will be too scared to approach him. Police are utterly useless. Still waiting for then to turn up to see an 83 yo woman, and her neighbour in his 70s who were victims of burglary before Christmas. Really clear hand prints on windows. Bloody useless.

PlipPlopChoo · 27/12/2023 21:58

I hope you are okay.

I also feel sorry for this awful couples children. They have no hope in life.

Please report this to the supermarket head office and local branch. They should act to ban him from their sites.

Good idea about selling the footage to the national paper. They might pay enough to get a new phone so that is something to consider.

Castellanos · 27/12/2023 21:59

Just awful OP, I hope you are all doing okay. Be gentle with yourself, you've been assaulted and likely in shock. I really hope the police and supermarket will take this seriously and you get some support.

PatchworkElmer · 27/12/2023 22:06

I’m so sorry OP. I hope you’re ok!

What the actual….I can’t find the words to express my visceral disgust. Honestly makes me want corporal punishment back for these types of crimes. Fucking unbelievably disgusting low life cowardly scum I’m so sorry about what happened to your friend x

tothelefttotheleft · 27/12/2023 22:09

Haven't read the whole thread by Maybe you'd be better posting about the incident on local Facebook groups and say if he replaces your phone you won't go to the police?

Abricot1993 · 27/12/2023 22:12

This is a horrible cowardly attack. I hope he gets pulled in as he is clearly a danger

Sothisiit · 27/12/2023 22:16

Sorry about what happened, hopefully the evidence your Nan got will help the police apprehend him.
You phone is likely covered on home contents insurance.

SamW98 · 27/12/2023 22:17

Report it to the police and the supermarket. They will have cctv which the police can use to prosecute if it goes to court.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/12/2023 22:25

I'm so sorry. There are some nasty bastards around and I hope the police find them
Your Nan was incredible to get the footage in such a scary situation
Obviously you're in shock, but are you ok physically?

AmItoosensitive123 · 27/12/2023 22:28

I’m so sorry OP. This sounds awful.

I would recommend taking photos of your injuries (police will do this but they may change by the time they’ve seen you).

Get your mum, your Nan and yourself to write down your version of events so when Police take a statement you can each use that.

Make sure you download the video your amazing Nan took.

Dont post the video on social media as much as you may want to. Reason being it will jeopardise a criminal case should you pursue it.

I do hope you do pursue it. You have enough evidence too. Suspect can be tracked via his registration plate and you’ve got the offence and his face on camera.

take care op x

CJsGoldfish · 27/12/2023 22:29

That's awful. Did people just watch 3 women be attacked and do nothing?
Maybe when the police check with the supermarket, there will be others who also filmed and left their details at the desk.

Hopefully you can claim your phone on insurance. I'm sure you will be able to have it replaced somehow. You might just need to use the old one for a while until you do.

Oh, and as awesome as Nan is, she's very lucky she was able to film the whole incident like some covert spy without attracting your attackers attention. If he threw your phone and you WEREN'T filming, imagine what could have happened to Nan if he noticed. So lucky!

I hope the police take it seriously though I'm not sure they couldn't with the evidence available. Hope the police have been and you are all feeling a lot better OP

AmItoosensitive123 · 27/12/2023 22:30

@bluedomino that isn’t true for all police forces. Also, forensics are used for only the most serious offences such as sexual offences, attempt murders and murders. It’s all down to resources not that they just won’t do anything.
