Just being nosey.

We live pretty much equidistant between two.
Today, we went into Cambridge.

Which is the closest city to you?

No one has mentioned my nearest city, I think either there is no one from there on mumsnet or we are all more conscious of internet safety 😉

I live in between Nottingham and Derby, pretty equal distance between the two. Derby is an absolute shit hole, Nottingham is not bad.

Stapleford or Ilkeston perhaps?

Blarn · 27/12/2023 19:38

Birmingham, I live in it.

Gowlbag · 27/12/2023 19:38

Cork, but I wish it was Galway. Hoping to move there when the last child has buggered off.

I was going to say Guildford, but although it has a cathedral, it doesn't have city status ( the cathedral 'rule' isn't a rule). Therefore, it's London for me.

Overheater · 27/12/2023 19:41

St Albans is approx 7 mile away. London is 10

Nearest is Derby, but its rubbish. If I want to shop I go into Birmingham.

If you were to put a pin in the middle of Southampton (the whole of the city not just the centre) you’d have a good chance of hitting my house. It gets a bad rap but I’m actually rather fond of it. We also frequent Winchester, and less often Portsmouth or Bournemouth. Spoilt for choice!

loving the what is/isn’t a city debate - you need to watch the Map Men: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Whqs8v1svyo

Manchester, though Leeds is only another 10 minutes ish away.

Oneblindmouse · 27/12/2023 19:45

It is 8.8 miles to both Salford and Manchester from my house.

I live in a city. But it's tiny.

I didn't realise half of these were cities! I need to brush up on my geography.

Well weirdly Guildford has a cathedral but not city status. But to all intents and purposes it is one and has a great Uni, rail links, shopping too.
