Do mums smell bad?

It's my first Christmas as a mum. I've received 5 bath/shower related gifts. Which is 3-4 more than usual.

It's just a thoughtless "easy" gift. They haven't been given to make a point.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/12/2023 15:43

Mums don't have interests...

Candycurrantbun · 25/12/2023 15:47

I love shower/bath sets. The more the merrier.

cuthbertthecat · 25/12/2023 15:47

I have 5 sets, a perfume and 3 room scents.

I do like smellies but I got 3 sets for my birthday 2 months ago.

I didn't get the lounge set or the earrings or the kindle vouchers I asked for which were the same value as the smellies I did receive and I had provided links and everything so I guess I must smell....

APurpleSquirrel · 25/12/2023 15:52

No smellies for me at all this year - but there's still time for DH's aunt & uncle to produce the annual toiletries set - if I'm lucky Dove; if not Lady Lynx Envy

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 16:03

You're doing your Christmas shopping and you have 30 people to buy for. You go to Boots and buy 3 for 2 bath sets or handwash/handcreme sets. Lynx for the lads, Dove for the ladies, and Baylis & Harding for the old dears. Job done

Sugarsun · 25/12/2023 16:04

No but mums tend to be stressed out and so pamper/relaxing stuff is a go to present.

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 16:12

Are all mums stressed? How is a cheapish bath set pampering or relaxing?
It's a go to present because it's thoughtless.

Candycurrantbun · 25/12/2023 16:24

It's not thoughtless. I've never seen such an ungrateful bunch of miseries as there are on MN.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/12/2023 16:28

They're to encourage you to take care of yourself, to make time for a lovely long shower or soak in the bath whenever you get a chance.

redastherose · 25/12/2023 16:35

I think they are a thoughtless gift and equate to yet another box of chocolates in the lack of thought department. Why can't people put some thought into it and think of something else you'd rather have. Most people have hobbies or interests but even if not, there are other more thoughtful things that could be bought.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 25/12/2023 16:39

I love getting bath/shower stuff as long as it's top end. Which it never is. M&S shower gel, for example, is a lazy gift.

Goldbar · 25/12/2023 16:40

They are a highly generic gift. The sort of thing I might give to someone I didn't really know.

If given one by a distant relative, fine, but if my OH gave me one, I'd be a bit 🙄. Especially since he's well aware I struggle to get a 5 minute shower some days.

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 16:55

@Candycurrantbun , but it is thoughtless. It's the equivalent of a Lynx shower set. Even more thoughtless if it's unusable due to a skin condition or a bath foam for someone who only has showers in their house/flat.

Dove Time to Pamper Body Wash Collection Gift Set 2 piece - Boots
Seriously? At least it's not a scented candle.

YouJustDoYou · 25/12/2023 16:57

The go-to gift when the giver can't be arsed.

APurpleSquirrel · 25/12/2023 16:59

@Candycurrantbun it is thoughtless when the exact same set/smell is given to every female relative regardless of age/preference - the same set is given to me (43) as to my MIL (76). It's a running joke now.
Tbh I don't mind, I don't use it & give it instead to the local refugee or homeless charity, so someone gets use from it.

blackpanth · 25/12/2023 17:01

I love bath stuff

newtovanlife · 25/12/2023 17:01

My BO postpartum was disgusting! It may be a hint :D or a thoughtless gift.

Jacfrost · 25/12/2023 17:02

I love getting shower gel. Got a lovely Philosophy one from DH and a soap and glory one from DD. Would probably be less impressed with a generic Dove gift set though

Me too, I like it when someone buys me Soap & Glory products because I love their scrub and body butter but they're bloody pricey.

That's right. Bloody hell, I'm grateful for everything I've had (including 3 lots of bath stuff)

MajesticWhine · 25/12/2023 17:15

I am always happy with decent quality soap or shower gels etc.

I'd rather have received chocolates tbh, these bath sets will be cluttering up the bathroom for months; there's only so many baths and showers I can have.

I'm grateful that I was given something but it will going to the food bank and the charity shop. I think some thought went into it but not sure that 'Shit, I've not got anything for Kirsten, what can I regift' was the thought I'd have liked.

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 17:20

I don't use body lotion, body scrub or hand cream very often and I prefer bar soap to handwash and shower gel, so the bath sets are just clutter.
Some chocolates would have been better.
