Do mums smell bad?

It's my first Christmas as a mum. I've received 5 bath/shower related gifts. Which is 3-4 more than usual.

😂 I've got so many toiletries and anti-aging stuff I expect to smell lovely and be looking 25 by June (I'm 40).

I like it though, it saves me buying anything for a while.

What I did find funny though is that last year SIL bought me a multipack of hand creams. This year MIL has bought me a multipack of hand creams. Are they noticing that I have haggard, witchy hands or what?

It's not snobbery. Jo Molone et al is luxury. It's stuff you wouldn't buy yourself so of course people would love it. It like suggesting people who would love to be given a pair of louboutins are just snobs for saying they don't want some own brand flip flops from Asda.

Buying someone a luxury item they wouldn't buy themselves suggest thought has gone into it. Buying someone a 3 for 2 of a brand they don't like is just saying you don't care.

And it's not the money. I would rather have a £5 pot plant than a cheap body product with synthetic fragrance that strips the skin of all its oils. May as well buy a bottle of fairy.

I love a pot plant.

Ooh, actually another thing Mums must like is Gin. I could have baths for years in the stuff, the amount that I'm gifted. Birthdays, Christmas...fucking gin!

We end up with bottles and bottles in the cupboard because we hardly drink in the house.

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 20:43

Why doesn't anyone buy me gin?

Maybe you don't have a family that where that if you mention ONCE that you quite like something, you get it for every occasion 😂. I might have to drop into conversation that I quite like diamonds.

I'm not grateful that someone can't be arsed to take the time to look for something I like. I don't se why I should be grateful to be an afterthought. I'm not fussy, it's not hard to ask me what I like and I'm not even into expensive brands. It's a lack of effort and a 'that will do' for Puddy. I'd rather have the fiver to put towards a morning coffee. My in laws even leave all the price stickers in every year too

To be fair I do love a good gin; I used to have a subscription to get a gin box every month 🙈 not had any gin since becoming a mum!

Even though I do like a G&T, I want a proper old-fashioned one. No fancy botanicals, and in a hi-ball glass not a goldfish bowl or a jar.

I took down certain ornaments/knicknacks because people see one and it sticks in people's minds and they start buying you a collection. The gift ones are unwanted tat.

You need to rest and relax! I love that kind of gift. keeps me stocked up and it’s always stuff much nicer then I’d buy myself.

Yeah, see the thing is, I often get a disgusting Gin Liquer. Someone once got me a peanut butter and jelly flavour 🤮. It's still in the cupboard.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 26/12/2023 00:04

Give them to the food bank.

KirstenBlest · 26/12/2023 10:17

@ConnieCroydon , It used to be Yardley French Fern for my granny
We used to get the bath cubes as girls.

The gin liqueur sounds revolting. Who on earth would make it, never mind buy it?

The octopus is something else.
