Does anyone else actually enjoy cooking Christmas dinner?

Because I do - for some bizarre reason I really like it.

Please tell me I'm not a weirdo!

Lucky you! Dh is great but he is very slow and careful. He literally spent the key hour doing one job - the Turkey. Admittedly that needed doing and is important but left me with literally everything else.

Did as many short cuts as possible- frozen roast potatoes / bought gravy /got guests to bring other bits but still is manic. We did manage to play games in the morning and have fun so wasn’t a Christmas martyr but Jesus I would have a million times preferred to lounge about drinking talking to extended family and play more games then stressing in the kitchen with about 10 moving parts that need to be ready at the same time for that sodding meal so really cannot relate to “I enjoy it”.

I love Xmas cooking , it's making me hungry just thinking about it

Really dislike. The other half loves it. For years I've said I'm not doing the full works so the kids (all grown) said do whatever you need and want to. So Last year we did meats and roasties with bread buns and put a little buffet out instead and the 3 kids and their partners enjoyed it more than a sit down meal so think it will be something we do regularly

I do! But then I keep it fairly simple - not umpteen sides/lots of different veg - and after many years I have it down to a fine art - esp.re timings.

Yes! I start prepping days before. My absolute favourite thing 😀

MintJulia · 30/07/2024 10:22

Yes. I do the veggies the night before, sitting in the kitchen peeling spuds and sprouts, with a glass of bubbly and listening to carols.

Christmas morning before ds is awake, I prep the meat and do the sauces and nibbles.

Then we do presents & breakfast, family calls, and a long walk, and then I put the bird on. Small family so nothing takes more than 90 mins to cook, rest and serve. 🙂
