Just that really, don't often get to go so want to make the most of it!

Loved - Billy Elliott, Phantom of the opera
So so - wicked, we will rock you
Didn't enjoy - lion king, singing in the rain

Current thoughts are Hamilton (but if I've watched it on Disney is this a waste?!) Les Mis, Matilda, SIX, open to other suggestions too!

Hoping now I'm no longer with ex-DH I might get to go more often but probably not enough that it won't matter if it's rubbish!!

I booked tickets for Hamilton in Edinburgh in Feb hoping it’s good. Liked it on Disney. Katherine Ryan does a funny set on Hamilton worth watching.

@JassyRadlett and @nottodaytomorrow

What is Operation Mincemeat about / like then ?

Peepshowcreepshow · 24/12/2023 20:28

Also REALLY did not like Lion King and loved Billy Elliott. Saw Hamilton this year - had zero interest in seeing it, tickets for DD, but absolutely loved it. Really want to see Cabaret. (And as pp said, Abba Voyage was brilliant).

Back to the Future - saw this yesterday. Loved it.

Choir of Man- Good fun. It’s like being in the pub with your mates having a sing song, chat and laughter.

Newuser75 · 24/12/2023 20:35

Hamilton live will be amazing! But les mis is always awesome and Matilda is great too! If I had to pick I'd go for les mis as you have watched Hamilton on the tv.

I've seen six and loved it but it's short and so I'd wait for it to tour near you rather than watch it in London as it's expensive. (Unless you live in London already 🙈).

Gizlotsmum · 24/12/2023 20:39

Hamilton is better live but my current favourite is Operation Mincemeat..

xyz111 · 24/12/2023 20:42

Not a musical, but if you're a Stranger Things fan, then go and see the new play. Absolutely amazing.

ZZGirl · 24/12/2023 20:44

Six
Choir of Man
Shows are featuring at the Dominion next year including The King & I and Sister Act

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 24/12/2023 20:46

Les Mis is magnificent!

Lordofmyflies · 24/12/2023 20:50

Sunset Boulevard but you'll have to be quick as I think it ends late January. Just fabulous. If you can't see that, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, again an immersive entertaining show.

CarrotSoupwithCheese · 24/12/2023 20:51

Another vote for Operation Mincemeat. It’s the only musical I’ve seen recently that I immediately wanted to see again. I have a friend who’s seen it more than 10 times!!

Hamilton was impressive but having watched it on Disney+ I was a tiny bit bored and also conscious of what an absolute fortune the tickets had cost.

I do have a soft spot for Matilda.

Bettyscakes · 24/12/2023 21:12

Totally loved Blood Brothers & Six.

Cabaret at the Kit Kat club, Jake Shears is Emcee. It’s a wonderful production in a fabulous setting.

Shite, yes of course! I only answered on your suggestions: Cabaret is the best thing I've ever seen (including straight plays) and you should absolutely go and see it before anything else.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/12/2023 03:38

Saw Back to the Future when we were back in UK in September and it was INCREDIBLE!

Honestly, 12 & 9 were blown away and husband and I thought it was fantastic.

I took them to see Frozen in summer last year and Lion king in April but they enjoyed BTTF and Frozen the most. Frozen was brilliant as well, highly recommend.

broccolibush · 25/12/2023 04:13

Matilda is glorious. I usually get annoyed with shows/films that deviate from the original story - it’s very different from the book - but this one didn’t bother me one bit and I loved it almost as much as I did reading the book in 1988.

Back to The Future was great fun too. The car is very much the star but it’s great theatre.

I don’t know if Heathers is still showing but that’s one to consider. Great fun and some really catchy tunes.

Operation Mincemeat is the stand out show in the west end for me right now. We saw it at the Southwark Playhouse in 2021 and I’m so delighted it’s made it to the west end proper. It’s clever, funny, poignant and respectful. Even my father who hates musicals enjoyed that one.

We will be seeing Six when my niece comes to stay soon so I’m pleased about the good reviews of that.

Meredusoleil · 25/12/2023 05:49

My favourites are Six, Matilda, Wicked, Frozen, Mamma Mia and The Lion King.

Les Mis, Phantom and Cats are all good, but too sad for me.

Was disappointed with & Juliet and Sister Act.

Only seen Hamilton on Disney+ and now the West End priced have shot up, it's put me off going to see it live. Normally love Lin Manuel Miranda's work, but found the recording hard to follow and way too fast.

I have Back to the future and Mrs Doubtfire on my list for next year.

lovinglaughingliving · 25/12/2023 05:54

Mousetrap or woman in black, both totally fantastic!

Aposterhasnoname · 25/12/2023 05:56

Back to the future is amazing.

Yiayoula · 25/12/2023 05:58

Les Mis all the way ! 🇫🇷

Soozikinzii · 25/12/2023 06:17

Six is brilliant really different . West side story is my personal favourite.

90yomakeuproom · 25/12/2023 06:18

Everyone's talking about Jamie is just amazing!

ScreenPrinting · 25/12/2023 06:55

If you love musicals and have never seen Les Mis, definitely put that top of your list.

hamilton is superb, much better live (without Lin-manuel’s dodgy singing!!)

I didn’t like lion king and didn’t love wicked, a couple of great songs in it but it felt very flat when I saw it and the plot is dreadful!

I absolutely hated Matilda. One of the worst things I’ve ever seen, sorry 😬 Just do not get the hype about it! Not my thing.

but definitely, Les Mis. It’s incredible, and the quality of the singing is mind-blowing. Want to go back a third time! (Wish we’d skipped Matilda and spent the money On another trip to Les Mis!)

I didn’t love Choir of Man. A friend highly recommended it, so I thought I would really like it. My husband really disliked it, and I thought it was okay, but a bit schmaltzy, and disappointing for a show in the west end. A small show.

It started at the Edinburgh fringe, and i can see that it would suit a small venue, like a pub, rather than a theatre.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 25/12/2023 07:22

Les mis.

Pootle40 · 25/12/2023 07:36

Back to the future is amazing
