Just that really, don't often get to go so want to make the most of it!

Loved - Billy Elliott, Phantom of the opera
So so - wicked, we will rock you
Didn't enjoy - lion king, singing in the rain

Current thoughts are Hamilton (but if I've watched it on Disney is this a waste?!) Les Mis, Matilda, SIX, open to other suggestions too!

Hoping now I'm no longer with ex-DH I might get to go more often but probably not enough that it won't matter if it's rubbish!!

Echo all the messages saying Back to the Future, I loved it.

I enjoyed Hamilton but didn't like Six, although the writing is very good.

30not13 · 25/12/2023 08:04

Another vote for Back To The Future, simply brilliant!

Isometimeswonder · 25/12/2023 08:11

Moulin Rouge is amazing.
Back to the Future was good too.

Guys and Dolls at The Bridge Theatre. Get the standing tickets and you’ll be an actual part of the show. Amazing amazing amazing. Another one here shocked at OP not liking The Lion King though, WTF.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 25/12/2023 08:29

@HardcoreLadyType

Agree I saw choir of man as kept hearing it recommended, singing was good but it was all the crap in between!

I am not a sentimental person so that may be why.

@JassyRadlett and @nottodaytomorrow

What is Operation Mincemeat about / like then ?

It's a musical based on the WW2 clandestine operation of the same name - its come from the fringe so is one of those rare West End beasts that isn't a film musical or a jukebox musical, it's original and fresh. Super funny, great songs and I cried at least twice.

RabbitsRock · 25/12/2023 09:38

We loved “ Tina” - the actress playing Tina Turner was incredible. Really didn’t want it to end.

Echobelly · 25/12/2023 09:41

Les Mis, Guys & Dolls - I've just got tickets for the latter, they're available less than half price in londontheatre.co.uk Christmas sale for Jan and Feb midweek.

RabbitsRock · 25/12/2023 10:19

Back to the Future was good but quite surreal!

myphoneisbroken · 25/12/2023 10:41

Another vote for Les Mis. Just so emotional and iconic.

Second choice: Hamilton. It is amazing live, we were right up the top and had a great experience.

I have also seen Matilda and Six and they don't compare to the first too IMHO, although they are good nights out.

UsingChangeofName · 25/12/2023 15:56

Thanks @JassyRadlett .
Sounds good.
Let's hope it tours. Smile

Jules912 · 25/12/2023 17:33

I'm put off Operation Mincemeat by the crazy flat pricing structure. I can't plan too far ahead and I'm not paying the same price as the stalls to sit in the gods, especially as I can generally only do weekends. Shame as it does sound really good.

It is a really small theatre, which is why they have the flat pricing but I do get why it feels a bit off

boysmuminherts · 25/12/2023 17:45

I've seen all of your suggestions and they're all good in different ways. I'd say Hamilton and Matilda first, closely followed by the classic les mis then six.

BusySittingDown · 25/12/2023 20:56

Wicked is the absolute best thing that I have ever seen! I can't believe that there are people in the world that are indifferent to it/don't like it. I know, people have different tastes, shocker! 😂

UsingChangeofName · 25/12/2023 21:17

I don't get the love for Wicked on here.
I thought it was 'meh'.
Nothing wrong with it (in a La La Land way) but nothing to write home about either.
I've seen a LOT of musicals over the decades, and Wicked wouldn't make my top 40 or 50.

LG93 · 25/12/2023 22:03

Thanks everyone! Food for thought! I'm going with a friend so I'll write a shortlist/look at some of these and see what she thinks! 🙂

Come from Away.

I have tickets to see it but I have watched it on YouTube.

It's about the people who's planes were diverted to Canada on 9/11 and how the locals welcomed them.

Don't expect fancy costumes and bright lights, each actor plays several parts.

It closes in London next week.
However it is doing a UK tour spring/summer 2024 which is great news for us non-Londoners

Yep, my tickets are for next November.

boysmuminherts · 27/12/2023 21:38

I love musicals but come from away is the worst I've ever seen.

Chimchar · 27/12/2023 22:01

Another vote for Hamilton here. Saw it in London a few years ago...it literally blew me away.

I've only seen les mis on stage once and I was really underwhelmed. I wanted to love it and it just didn't really deliver for me.

Did love Heathers and Book of Mormon was fantastic, but super sweary and piss takey. Not for the easily offended!

Ahwig · 27/12/2023 22:23

We went to see Mrs Doubtfire the musical about 2 weeks ago. It was absolutely brilliant. We didn't know any of the cast as such but they all had a large theatre background. There was a standing ovation. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Parapapampam · 27/12/2023 23:10

Cabaret was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed Les Mis. I was bored watching Hamilton, but everyone I went with loved it.

Bbq1 · 28/12/2023 00:03

Six is fab. Avoid Grease, rowdy audiences in my experience. I love the traditional musicals like 42nd street. Phantom and Joseph are both great too. I'm not a Le Mis fan.
