I'm just finishing my first cuppa, in silence, then headed up to wake the girls with a cuppa each.

We're off for our traditional walk into town to the market, even if most of it will be shut & we don't need anything. It started when they were little, to ensure they were tired & has continued even though they're teens now.

When we get home, we'll prep the veg and spuds for tomorrow and defrost the chicken. We'll make some more mince pies too so there's one to leave out for Santa tonight.

This evening it'll be showers all round, some crochet in front of another episode of A Discovery of Witches for me, presents out before I go to bed and bar the girls from downstairs 🤣

What about all of you? 🎄

Good morning! We are doing a big dog walk this morning to tire the little madam out. Then my adult dc are coming over this afternoon for mince pies, board games, and to watch The Snowman! Then we are all going out to dinner.

Need to squeeze in some vacuuming at some point 😁

Ebokebok · 24/12/2023 07:45

Dog walk, then a bucks fizz/crumpet/scrambled egg/smoked salmon breakfast. Out to the horses (they live out 24/7, so no rush to get to them early). Another dog walk, then tele and a martini cocktail 😁.

Elmo230885 · 24/12/2023 07:45

Going to my sister's house. Will have a walk around the local area then back to hers where we are having pie & peas and watching The Muppets Christmas Carol.
We've watched the film every year for well over 20 years!
The crowd watching the film has grown over the years, DHs, DCs!
I always look forward to Christmas Eve, never leave any shopping or chores. Its a fun relaxing day.

Cleaning for visitors and end of wrapping!

Fairyjuice · 24/12/2023 07:50

Happy Christmas Eve!!

We've had a manic week cleaning the house/shopping/wrapping/hosting but thankfully all done now. Kicked into relax gear yesterday evening so today will be very chill, showers/baths for DC this morning and then just lounging about watching movies and playing games for the day. Will prep some veggies and dessert for tomorrow later, and then we'll do our family secret Santa pressies this evening.

I wanted to get the kids out for a walk or something this morning but the weather is shit so will probably give that a miss.

Might pop to Lidl down the road to see if I can bag a cheap turkey for Tuesday as we host family on Xmas day and our turkey is small enough this year so won't have much leftovers.

DelilahBucket · 24/12/2023 07:51

Shopping delivery due soon. A few presents left to wrap and bits around the house to sort. Taking DS to a shop to get his main gift of his choosing if they have what he wants (he's after a very expensive guitar so we've said it will have to be a secondhand one and there aren't many shops around that sell them so we're having to travel). Then we're off out for hot chocolate and ice skating followed by dinner out. Our original ice skating planned for today was cancelled at 6:45pm yesterday due to the weather so we've booked somewhere else instead and will have to wing it with the rest.
Hoping to see lots of twinkling lights and to feel a bit more festive. It's been an extremely stressful year.

merryandbrightdelight · 24/12/2023 07:53

Morning! Bath and hairs washed for our two DDs, then need to cook the ham, drop presents with in laws and then home to do the Christmas Eve buffet as my dps and daunt are round this afternoon. Dh also has a dolls house to assemble and presents to wrap!

Fairyjuice · 24/12/2023 07:53

Hope you get your guitar @DelilahBucket, what model is he looking for?

Savedpassword · 24/12/2023 07:55

Staying curled up in bed with lovely DH and a few cups of tea. Need to peel veg at some point today and will go for a walk on the beach later. A movie and hot chocolate and popcorn later with the kids ( young adults) Enjoy your day.

Stress101 · 24/12/2023 07:56

Getting my hair washed and blow dried at 9.30am. Then pick up some bread and painkillers on my way home. Give the house a good clean. Hopefully finish everything by 1pm, then shower, new pj's and a day on the sofa watching Christmas films with the teenagers. Will order a takeaway this evening. Then leave out mince pie for Santa and carrot for Rudolph. Kids should head to bed about 10pm and then we wait for Santa 🎅 🎄

Falalalalaa · 24/12/2023 07:56

Morning all, happy Christmas Eve!

I’ve been awake since 6am, so on my second coffee and I’ll go for a shower soon.

One present to wrap when it’s finished charging, got a click and collect at my local Argos to pick up at 10am and then home for a quick clean round and bacon and eggs for brunch.

Off to a Christmas market later so it’ll be burgers for tea for the kids, Ice Skating booked at 5pm to tire them out and then home for tea (baked Camembert, pate, meats and naice bread) with a glass of something nice.

Projectme · 24/12/2023 07:57

Need to saunter up to local supermarket to hopefully get a bag of potatoes, cauli and broc, tonic water as none got delivered in the shop yesterday.

Do the veg for tmrw.

Adult DCs will be out with their mates at the local pub so it'll be just me and DH cozying up to watch a Xmas film with a bottle of something. We did the muppet Xmas Carol last night.

Oh and drop off presents that I've bought for my DM to give to my DF as she is pretty much housebound and can't get them herself.

🎄🎅🎉🍸

embolass · 24/12/2023 07:58

Get showered and face on
Dog walk
Drive to mother in law’s with DH to drop off pressies and have brunch
DH to go get beer and soft drinks, chicken and yoghurt! (He had one job, left till today when it will be chaos)
Food for dinner tonight - curry

Bit of wrapping of DS 1 pressies
Tidy / clean up
Then chill, boys older now and out tonight so can relax 🥂in peace and quiet

Crunchymum · 24/12/2023 07:59

Happy Christmas Eve @lucysmam

Quiet one today as we didn't get home from a family "lunch" until 10pm last night. Had a few relatives we'd not seen for years turned up for evening drinks and we ended up staying later. My kids were demented with tiredness but they're all still asleep now.

I want to get the whole house hoovered, make shortbread, older two need to wrap mine, daddy's and the cats gifts and I need to wrap a few last minute things without them seeing. Will probably stick a wash on too as I'll have a few days off laundry. Also need to write my last few cards. I'm so last minute this year.

Sainsburys will arrive this morning and unbelievably there is nothing missing (I had bought most of the important stuff already though. It was just the dessert and vegetables arriving today plus our usual shop!). We are actually out at local relatives tomorrow but I'm doing a full dinner on Boxing day 😋

We'll have sausage and egg rolls for brunch, takeaway pizza for dinner and it's Home Alone and Christmas PJ's for us this evening.

May venture out of a walk if anyone gets antsy but we'll see. I'm still tucked up in bed myself and enjoying the last bit of peace I'm bound to get in the next few days.

BCBird · 24/12/2023 08:00

Pick up floral tributes before going to cemetery- went for collection a day too early, then a nice walk with cousin. Aim to eat healthily today as ate too much sweet stuff yesterday. Will save it for tomorrow. Have a good day

Readingineading · 24/12/2023 08:00

Im working part of the day , just popping to the supermarket then into work for a couple of hours. Tonights dinner is already made and just needs heating up.
Watching an Xmas film later with DH then may take the dog to the beach late afternoon. Merry Christmas Mumsnetters 🎅

fatandhappy47 · 24/12/2023 08:01

Had a cuppa, walked the pupper
Work till 2 then m and a then Xmas can start

JMAngel1 · 24/12/2023 08:01

Morning @lucysmam and everyone
It’s Xmas Eve!!
Still lying in bed with a cuppa nursing a tiny hangover from a lovely night out with friends - I was quite restrained and only had 3 drinks.
Glad of it this morning as about to attack the kitchen - got to bake brownies, Christmas cookies and rum and raisin cheesecake. Will have to wait for DDs to surface though as they will want to help.

Also going to make some Nigella spiced nuts and brandy prune prosciutto bites - think they’re called Devils on Horseback but will have to get her lovely book out to check. Oooh also have to boil the ham for tonight.

Then more cleaning - and off to an old 1920s cinema to see “It’s a Wonderful Life” with mulled wine and nibbles - very excited for that. Then back home for ham and loaded potato skins with hazelnut savoy cabbage.
Then of course Santa traditions and “the night before Christmas” before bed.

MeinKraft · 24/12/2023 08:03

I am in bed snuggling my young DD and DS. Up soon then have breakfast, washed and dressed them out to visit family/deliver presents. Home to start preparing tomorrow's dinner, bit of time with the dc then bedtime for them. Then the sneaking about starts!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/12/2023 08:04

I'm making breakfast for 8 (DH, me and 6 visitors).. Then I'm going to drive my niece to visit my dad/her grandads grave. She's visiting from Oz so is keen to go there to take flowers. Otherwise I'd be going for a long walk.

Home for a late lunch, not sure about the afternoon as it gets dark so early.

Dinner and games later.

heidipi · 24/12/2023 08:04

Morning! It’s lashing rain and wind here so reckon I’ll abandon the idea of a walk (though I might nip out for a 30 min run later, mainly for a bit of time to myself!) the DC are 13 and 10, I’ve got a gingerbread house kit for them to do, plus decorate a Yule log (cake is shop bought) will watch a film or 2, fish and chips for tea (the oven variety). Might give the 13 yr old a book I haven’t wrapped yet to keep her busy, the 10yo is making pom-poms and loves board games so we’ll do some of that. also run a hoover round and do a load of washing. Afternoon Baileys at some point. Haven’t put the outside lights up yet but that ship might have sailed…
I’m feeling relieved that everything has got done and can relax now, got a bit stressed over burnt part of tea last night so am determined to chill the feck out from here on.

violetcuriosity · 24/12/2023 08:04

DP has just taken the baby downstairs to give her breakfast so I'm scrolling in bed. She keeps waking up at 5:15 but she's in the middle of a huge developmental leap so we'll let her off! I've got two small loads of washing to do then that's me done until the 27th. We're heading up to the pub at about 12 once my older DD has got back from her Dad's to meet our friends. We will go and see DP's family this afternoon then over to my parents for beef wellington. Home and early nights for the girls, some chill time with a baileys on the sofa then bed.

kikisparks · 24/12/2023 08:05

Having our first Christmas dinner tonight and need to finish making the trifle, and possibly make the pecan pie for tomorrow night, and more cleaning. Not sure what we’re doing with toddler DD, I had hoped to go to the park but the weather outside is frightful! A bath at some point certainly.

embolass · 24/12/2023 08:05

Reading these posts spurs me on to get cracking, instead of more tea and browsing, so thanks everyone 🎄

recklessgran · 24/12/2023 08:06

Enjoying my third cup of tea in peace this morning before the massive onslaught of our 5DDs, partners and various grandchildren. First turkey crown is in the oven - this one will be for cold cuts - later I will carve it and make foil parcels for my disabled DD and very elderly Mum - the rest will be used for sandwiches etc here. Next I need to make sausage rolls for later, both normal and vegetarian - I'm trying out a new [simpler] filling recipe for the veggie ones. We are all out for lunch at 1.00pm then back home for drinks and chat before heading into the village for the open air carols and firework display early evening, quick drink in the village pub and then home for a big cheeseboard, the aforementioned sausage rolls and a game/competition or 2. It's a big gig here as we are such a big family but it really is exhausting great fun! So lucky to have so much love in our house. Merry Christmas everybody!
