I'm just finishing my first cuppa, in silence, then headed up to wake the girls with a cuppa each.

We're off for our traditional walk into town to the market, even if most of it will be shut & we don't need anything. It started when they were little, to ensure they were tired & has continued even though they're teens now.

When we get home, we'll prep the veg and spuds for tomorrow and defrost the chicken. We'll make some more mince pies too so there's one to leave out for Santa tonight.

This evening it'll be showers all round, some crochet in front of another episode of A Discovery of Witches for me, presents out before I go to bed and bar the girls from downstairs 🤣

What about all of you? 🎄

Well I’m drinking tea in bed and helping to eat some celebrations atm

kids are going to husbands family for a meal today (first time they have done something like that at Christmas)

im glad grandma of the year is doing something with them , but it is a bit sad they aren’t at home - we normally go for a meal or pictures on Christmas Eve .

hubby is working till 6 .

It will give me chance to clean the bathroom and tidy in peace!

I might walk into town with an Amazon return for some fresh air

Hairychristmas · 24/12/2023 08:46

Big dog walk, making gingerbread, little bit of work (I'm freelance and just want to finish something off), Xmas movie, takeaway!

Sanch1 · 24/12/2023 08:50

Hoping to go for a run if I can shake off my hangover 😵 then we need to walk to the supermarket for a few fresh bits, and tidy/clean for guests coming tomorrow. Also need to make up beds for guests. May go out for lunch, church carol service at 4. DH is going to cook the ham. That actually seems like quite a lot and I'm still in my pjs while DH is lying in!

Morning all
Cuppa finished and I’m going to have a quick tidy and clean, walk dogs and then pop into my local town for a couple of bits.
I managed to forget crackers (the pulling kind, have plenty for cheese) and a Christmas pud, there seems to be a pudding drought!!

Hoping those who are poorly get well soon and you all get to enjoy your Christmas.

AdaColeman · 24/12/2023 08:50

Good morning lucysmam and everyone! 🎄 🎄 🎄

Oh dear @Thestruggler your poor little one, I hope she perks up soon.

Just a quiet day here, as everything is quite low key.

I'd planned to make a paper sculpture crib, but put it to one side earlier in the month, but I might make just the little family group today.
The weather here is dreadful with wind & heavy rain.

Enjoy the day everyone! 🍸 🍸

SantaBarbaraMonica · 24/12/2023 08:51

I’ve woken up with vomiting and diarrhoea. Hurrah!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 24/12/2023 08:52

Morning 👋
It’s a quiet day for me, which is just how I like it! I’ve just waved DD off to work and now have the house to myself. I’ve just had some toasted panettone while listening to Christmas songs on the radio. Did all my housework yesterday so not much left to do now, just need to wrap DD’s presents and then prepare the buffet for tonight when DD gets home and my mum arrives at around 6pm. After we’ve eaten, mum and I will make the stuffing for tomorrow while listening to carols, we are going to my sister’s tomorrow so the stuffing and desserts (shop bought) are our contribution. Will spend the rest of the evening eating chocolates in front of the tv before bed. I love Christmas Eve!

sleepylittlebunnies · 24/12/2023 08:52

Just finished night shift so shower then bed for a few hours. DH is walking the DDog and will then try and get the DC to help him mop and vacuum and do a general tidy up. Cinema later with DH, DC and DSis and DN’s. Then take away, put presents out once DC are in bed and hopefully get to bed by midnight.

ssd · 24/12/2023 08:53

Hi @lucysmam , happy Christmas eve to you too.

The rain is absolutely battering down here in Glasgow. We are both in bed having tea. We wanted to go in to see the lights and Christmas markets but they will be washed out most likely. Such a shame, this time of year businesses make a bit of money but not when the weather is so bad.

VerityUnreasonble · 24/12/2023 08:54

My plan for today was a lazy day. Chase DS into the bath before going out for a meal with family later.

However, DD arrived home yesterday evening and promptly announced she still has Christmas shopping to do and needs to nip into town.

New plan is go into town with DD and face the chaos. I hate town at this time of year. But having DD home and getting to spend a bit of time together is worth braving it.

Christmas is difficult this year as my lovely Dad died very suddenly 3 months ago. It's a good reminder to make the most of the time I have with the people I love though.

Ormside · 24/12/2023 08:56

A very long drive, North to South, hoping the traffic is kind.

TroysMammy · 24/12/2023 08:56

It's my partner's 60th birthday today so I will be baking a Victoria sponge and assembling pineapple and cheese on sticks. Artistically sprinkling 100s and 1000s on a trifle made with jelly, Swiss roll and blancmange and warming up sausage rolls and a quiche. Pouring out dandelion and burdock pop but drawing a line at pass the parcel and musical chairs.

ShipshapeShore · 24/12/2023 08:58

My favourite day of the year. Church in an hour, couple of presents to wrap, final house straighten up, change beds then I will have a bath and sit down to watch The Snowman. I only ever watch it Christmas Eve afternoon so that's when I know it's really Christmas!

Wishing you all peace and joy over the next few days, 💐❤️ for those of you who may find this time of year difficult.

AchillesLastStand · 24/12/2023 08:58

We’re taking DS 9 to the panto after lunch. Then we’re heading off to McDonalds for a festive veggie burger (a treat DS has requested). Then we’ll come home have a bath, get into PJs and watch the Bake Off together.

I did all my cleaning and washing yesterday so I’m having a rest this morning and cooking the Quorn Roast for tomorrow. Also I’ve just put the empty advent calendar into recycling. I’ll be very busy tomorrow sorting out recycling!

Echobelly · 24/12/2023 08:59

We're Jewish and going to kosher butchers soon because my parents are coming over on boxing day and I want some chicken, plus we want something substantial for lunch tomorrow (my idea of macaroni cheese was vetoed by dh and oldest dc)

However, oldest and I are choral singers and do like a good carol and we've managed to get in with a group singing under the Trafalgar Square tree this afternoon. No rehearsal at all and some tricky renaissance music as well but there's usually enough people who know what they're doing that it works!

festivetinseling · 24/12/2023 09:01

I've already been to the supermarket, and found that it was closed. Forgot it was a Sunday so won't open till 10! Never mind, the corner shop was open and they had all the bits and bobs I needed apart from milk, so DH is going out later to get that. Currently sitting here drinking coffee and waiting for my cheese & bacon turnover to cook. After that, I'm cooking the gammon, sorting out the dining room and putting random clutter in the loft. DH is off on a walk to see his friends in the next village, and DD is coming round later, hopefully to make mince pies.

Apart from that, the hoover might get a runaround and the kitchen needs a bit of an organise.

Lovelyjubbbly · 24/12/2023 09:02

I’ve just woke up my mum was calling my phone from half 6 I kept thinking it was my alarm so kept hanging up! Eventually she popped round and woke me up she wanted my two toddlers to take them out and me something for Christmas! So sweet. She said she will keep them for me until around 2PM so pritty much wait on my lazy Dh getting out of bed so I can get all the house work done washings , make sure the kids room is tidy for Santa then watch the Rangers Game at 12 then have a complete relaxing day with the kids and partner and find a great Christmas film to watch and put a large pot of soup on for the kids coming home today! 😊

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 24/12/2023 09:05

I've had a lie in this morning as getting over a virus. I've been hopefully waiting to see if dh wakes up as he will bring me a coffee in bed. Doesn't look hopeful even with all my coughing.

I've got a bit of laundry to do and bedding to change in advance of our guests arriving this aft. Dh is going to give the bathroom a quick once over and one of the dcs may run the vac around. I need to plan all my timings for dinner tomorrow and may do some veg prep if I can bear to have it hanging around.

Christmas visitors arriving after lunch. We are planning a walk by the river-although blowing a ruddy gale here atm- and meeting some extended family for a drink at the pub.

Then getting cosy, all the buffet items for dinner and a movie or games depending on energy levels. And definitely The Snowman.
Happy Christmas everyone.

@violetcuriosity thank you - sorry for making you feel teary! You've no idea how much your comment means to me - that, right there, just made my day before it's hardly begun! Having come from a terribly abusive childhood with no clue how to love anybody I know exactly how lucky I am and will treasure every moment.

We’re just up! Our dear friends arrived last night and are here until Boxing Day afternoon. I’m just about to make some bacon/egg sandwiches. Later on we’re heading to the pub for a light lunch then Church at 4pm for our Carol concert. Tonight it’s the Christmas Eve buffet and our annual Quiz night (8 of us). I did a huge gammon in coke yesterday that we’ll have with crusty breads, cheeses, winter slaw, salads, etc followed by Yule log etc. I love Christmas Eve, the house is tidy, the fridge is full enough, our friends are here, DD is on her first Christmas leave from the Navy and my darling MIL is still with us despite having some serious health issues, I have a lot to be very thankful for.

RabbitsRock · 24/12/2023 09:15

Happy Christmas Eve lucysmam & everyone. Hope those that are poorly or have poorly kiddies get well soon. Not feeling 100% myself at the mo. I have a feeling I accidentally took a double dose of Co - Codamol. Quite a busy day ahead but I could happily just go back to sleep. Working 10 til 2 then delivering the last few cards & wrapping pressies. DH is doing the food shop. It’s only the two of us tomorrow so we don’t need a lot. Also have to get some more decluttering done, set the table & do the veg prep. Just looked at the frozen turkey crown instructions & it says 48 hours to defrost! So DH will have to find something today. Couldn’t believe it! Chippy tea tonight then we’ll watch Love Actually as we do every year. Might go to see some lights but it depends on the weather ( blustery & damp at the mo)

ilovebagpuss · 24/12/2023 09:15

Happy Christmas Eve! Still lounging in bed with 2nd coffee.
Will pop and take my DF some mince pies we made yesterday in a bit and have a coffee with him. He is at my DB for Christmas Day as we have the in laws staying.
Then it's making the curry for tea and prepping the bedroom for our guests.
Will do some veg prep and make a list for tomorrow's cooking so I feel organised.
Teens will just chill and put a film on.
We will have the log burner on later even though it's fairly mild here as it does make it cozy and I laid that ready yesterday.
Will try and get the in laws to have a game or two later See how they feel.
Got to pack the stockings as well and put those ready.
I find it harder to feel excited as kids get older and the olds get even older, it can be quite a juggle to keep the generations happy myself included!
I tell myself I can't make everyone content all of the time so just crack on and leave them to it!
Hope you all have a great Christmas.

Kim82 · 24/12/2023 09:16

Good morning everyone. I’m currently in my pjs on the sofa as usual and will be making me and dh another cup of tea in a minute.

I’ve not been able to do the big Christmas clean as I’ve been in pain with a kidney stone and kidney infection since Wednesday (I’m still sore but it’s easing now thankfully) so that’s today’s plan with everybody else pitching in.

I have my 2 sisters coming round at about 1pm for tea and cake and to exchange presents and dd19 is off to work at 3pm til 1.30am.

I think dh might be going to the pub for a few drinks this afternoon but he’s not 100% decided yet but if he does he’ll be back for tea.

Burgers and wedges for tea (not very festive but it was on last weeks meal plan and was bumped to this week when we got a takeaway) then I’ll prep all the veg for tomorrow before showers then sitting in front of a Christmas film with the dc. There’s no way on earth dd9 will be going to bed early tonight so she’ll watch the film with us too and then bed time for all so dh and I can lay out all the presents before going to bed ourselves.

Happy Christmas everyone.

SaveFerris1 · 24/12/2023 09:17

I'm sitting on the sofa with a purring kitten on my knee. Soup has been made for lunch, dinner is half made for tonight and gingerbread dough in fridge for baking later (I don't even know who I am!). DH is in bed with food poisoning, think he had a dodgy prawn last night and both DSs still sleeping. Would like to go for a stomp along the cliffs later and if possible the christingle service tonight. Also on my plans is the festive pile of ironing Grin

ThreeRingCircus · 24/12/2023 09:18

Good morning everyone and Happy Christmas Eve.

Today we're having a quiet morning after a very busy few days. DDs are watching cartoons and I'm just having a coffee, we're all still in our pyjamas.

Later we're going out for a pub lunch with some friends which is our Christmas Eve tradition. Then home and we're all going to have baths, get into Christmas pyjamas and hang up the stockings/put out the mince pie for Father Christmas. We'll watch a Christmas film and then read DDs The Night Before Christmas before they go to bed.

DH and I are then going to sneak the presents out from the garage then open a bottle of champagne.🍾
