I'm just finishing my first cuppa, in silence, then headed up to wake the girls with a cuppa each.

We're off for our traditional walk into town to the market, even if most of it will be shut & we don't need anything. It started when they were little, to ensure they were tired & has continued even though they're teens now.

When we get home, we'll prep the veg and spuds for tomorrow and defrost the chicken. We'll make some more mince pies too so there's one to leave out for Santa tonight.

This evening it'll be showers all round, some crochet in front of another episode of A Discovery of Witches for me, presents out before I go to bed and bar the girls from downstairs 🤣

What about all of you? 🎄

Happy Christmas Eve @lucysmam and thank you for all the wonderful gentle comfort of your threads.

Your day sounds wonderful. I’ve got church, a run, and make a curry on my list for today although currently haven’t even had my first coffee. So we will see.

dressedforcomfort · 24/12/2023 09:22

Nice dog walk this morning.
Picking up the Christmas order from Waitrose
Watching Polar Express with DS

Apart from trip out to Waitrose, keeping it as low key as possible.

AppleChristsBirthdayMacchiato · 24/12/2023 09:24

I'm going to jump on the tube to Covent Garden to see an opera, then probably cook a light Thai or Korean meal for dinner.

DH is sorting out the clean laundry. He enjoys it and attributes it to the fact he is descended from a Laundress who was born in about 1840.

I am popping in to town to try and get his Mum an extra gift as she has arrived with rather worn out looking slippers. We will have an early dinner tonight and watch a Christmas film and then I may go to midnight mass.

FlorencenotRatchet · 24/12/2023 09:31

Morning all. Happy Xmas eve.
Started tidying and cleaning. Just have to nip into work quickly and then off to the supermarket to pick up a Turkey.
Home to finish the cleaning and washing before hitting the sofa.

RabbitsRock · 24/12/2023 09:37

Will definitely watch The Snowman at some point.

Decafflatteplease · 24/12/2023 09:37

Happy Christmas Eve @lucysmam and all. This is one of my favourite days of the year you can almost feel the magic in the air!

I've been up early and had my tea in silence with just the glow of the tree lights. Twas glorious!

This morning I need to get the gammon in the slow cooker for this evening, and have a quick tidy round so it's nice for later.

Around lunch we will head to MIL for the traditional Christmas eve buffet with all the family, cousin, aunties etc.

Christingle late afternoon then home for aforementioned gammon, chips and egg we always have this on Christmas eve.

Also need to cook the turkey this evening!

Then setting out mince pie, carrots, traditional story of twas the night before Christmas we have my copy that was mine as a child it's got my name in I wrote as a child it's very special.....bath and bed for DC and then DH and I have a tradition where we get all rb presents sorted and organised then settle down with a glass of port some cheese and watch carols at kings. My absolute favourite hour or so of the season.

Then collapse in bed ready for tomorrow!

Happy Christmas Eve, @lucysmam!

I accidentally posted on the other thread so this is a C&P!

I’m still lounging on the sofa with my second cup of coffee.

Miserable weather here - was hoping DP would get DD down the park to burn off some energy, but not sure that’ll happen.

Not sure what we’ll eat today - I’m so focused on tomorrow and BD!

At some point, I need to make mince pies and prep a big vat of pasta sauce for Boxing Day lunch as whole family is coming over. (Tomorrow will just be me and DD, as DD can’t cope with big gatherings and we want her to enjoy Christmas Day.)

Still got all of DD’s presents to wrap and stocking to fill. I just hope she goes to sleep at a decent time, so we’re not too knackered.

lucysmam · 24/12/2023 10:49

Erm...well, I kind of forgot that town would be shut until 10am so we were in slightly earlier than planned but the places I wanted were already open so we're now chilling in Costa, watching the steady stream of shoppers pass 😊. Next we'll head home & start prep in the kitchen.

I also forgot about Norad so have been checking to see if Santa has set off yet, now I remembered!

Good morning @lucysmam and all. Dh and I have been for a 7 mile walk with the Doggos. Latte snd a cinnamon bun from the cafe at the end of it. Bathed the dog who rolled in something unspeakable. Going to do a flash clean of the house with a Buck's Fizz on the go then get ready and get the bus to the next town over to meet friends for afternoon drinks. Back at about 6 for some probably tipsy last minute wrapping and with any luck a little bunk up Wink. This the most relaxed I've been on Christmas Eve for ages. No kids, presents mostly wrapped, lunch out tomorrow so no stress over that. It almost feels a bit weird! A lovely Christmas Eve to you all!

Soccermumamir · 24/12/2023 11:05

Morning everyone 😊 Love these chats! Happy Xmas Eve 🎄🎅 I had a lovely lie in, on my 3rd coffee lol Chicken is in the oven for tomorrow (always cook it day before) and made up the stuffing. OH popped to the shop for some extra milk and apparently it was rammed lol 🤦‍♀️
I have an afternoon of complete bliss and chilling lol
Tonight is takeaway. Both ds' have pizza and me and OH have a Chinese, with a movie matharon 😊
Hope you all have an amazing, relaxed day!

Xtraincome · 24/12/2023 11:14

@Soccermumamir that sounds like a fab day

@MyLibrarywasdukedomlargeenough I may be distantly related to your DH. My DH has cleaned the house to perfection- we are all defo descended from labourers and washer women.

@Decafflatteplease Gammon is my DDs Xmas day meal of choice.

I am attempting to read my book in my 2nd hand armchair which was an Xmas gift to myself- dog just isnt settling and wants to be in everyones face for cuddles 😆 DDs are on tablets, jazz music is on in the background. DH cleaning upstairs.

Tonight, DM is coming over for a walk around the village to post cards to neighbours. Fryup for all of us for dinner tonight, then we open our gifts to/from DM as she is at DB and DSIL house for Xmas day.

Merry Christmas all.

MyLibrarywasdukedomlargeenough · 24/12/2023 14:12

I got some nice slippers for MIL and treated myself to a custard tart and coffee. I also popped in a couple of local Christmas cards I forgot to post, my friend has some severe health issues so is housebound so I sung to her which she appreciated. We actually met when we sung together in a choir, she joined in a couple of lines . When I left I cried in the car because I hate seeing her so fragile.
@Xtraincome he is always very thorough and does. A better job than I ever could.

OwlWeiwei · 24/12/2023 14:20

I've been cooking all day - prep for tomorrow. Having a break now, then wrapping some presents. Then more cooking - familiy tradition chestnut ragout and pannetone puddding for Christmas Eve dinner. Midnight mass this evening as DS is in the choir. DH has a really bad cold with a temperature so I'm a bit run off my feet doing jobs he'd normally do but he really is ill. DS1 has stepped up a bit.

AppleChristsBirthdayMacchiato · 24/12/2023 15:58

I hit up the M&S Christmas Eve sale, and picked up two giant bags of food (bags for life size) for £18.

Made mince pies etc together
Then childrens dad came over for games and Xmas eve box
I finished off wrapping

Merry Christmas
