Just been and did the food shopping for Christmas. Going daughter's on Christmas day so we don't need a turkey.
Left home at 9.30am.
First supermarket 1 hour. Spent £106
Second 40 minutes. Spent £58.
Both carparks were full.

Some of this was to last until next Friday.
And then we will just use the corner shop for bread, milk and fruit.

I went yesterday and was the only one in the queue. Was lucky I suppose!

TheFairyCaravan · 22/12/2023 12:12

We left home at 7.45am to go to Aldi 5 minutes away and was home by ten past nine. It wasn’t that busy in there, tbh. We had one person in front of us at the checkout, but let a lady with a basket go in front while we were unpacking the trolley.

Squirrelblanket · 22/12/2023 12:15

Went to Aldi and Tesco at 7am yesterday. No queues. All done. 🤗

Just done ours at Sainsbury's, one person in front of us so we sailed through (every till was open though).

Runoutofinkagain · 22/12/2023 12:19

Just back, car park was full but got a space easily as someone left. Loads of self service tills so no wait for a till but the aisles were VERY busy.

LoopyGremlin · 22/12/2023 12:21

I did Aldi last night with no queues at all and spent £97
I did Sainsbury's at 7am this morning and spent £120. No queues at all and car park empty.
Butcher collection is tomorrow. All ordered so just a collection so hopefully will be easy enough.

MissyB1 · 22/12/2023 12:22

I was at Waitrose at 7:55 it opens at 8. I queued to wait for the doors to open! Very quick once I was inside though, no queue at the till.

Nochoiceleft · 22/12/2023 12:23

Went this morning about 10.30. One person just finishing up as I got to the till.
Busy around the store but not stupidly so and people were generally all polite and fairly cheerful.
Car park was fuller than usual but I still got my usual spot tucked away in a corner.

Candycurrantbun · 22/12/2023 12:26

Went to Tesco last night. Used self serve , no queue. Nipped to Iceland this morning, no queue there either.

canyon2000 · 22/12/2023 12:41

I went to Waitrose at 10am this morning, used scanpaygo and there was no queue. Then went to Sainsburys, used smartshop and no queue either! I was surprised at how quiet it was.

Flossflower · 22/12/2023 12:42

My online order is arriving Christmas Eve from Ocado.

DyslexicPoster · 22/12/2023 12:46

I'm going later on tonight to finish off. I did my big shop on Wednesday and it was as civil as it gets in Lidl.

YewandOak · 22/12/2023 13:00

Just been to Tesco. Used the trolley self scan. Waited for 5 minutes, Spent £88. Was like a busy Saturday, most people happy and smiling. Spent about half an hour from start to finish thanks to my list.

TheDandyLion · 22/12/2023 13:00

Aldi was busy but no queue at the car park I got the last space no queue at the till. BMW and a land rover were fighting over my space as I was pulling out.
Tesco's car park was jam packed with lots of people circling. It's not a big store and many people use the Tesco car park and wander into town and avoid paying the council car park fees. No queues at the till.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/12/2023 13:01

No queues in M&S this morning.

Christmas Eve? Well played.

I did a shop yesterday with no queuing and I have a click and collect tomorrow evening.

StillWantingADog · 22/12/2023 13:05

No queues at sainsburys yesterday (I always self scan which never has a queue). Car park was very busy so took slightly longer to get in and out.

yutu · 22/12/2023 13:17

Arrived at M&S at 8.30am it was already very busy and hard to move around with a trolley, but the queue to pay was not bad, there were two couples before me.

Then popped in ASDA after 9am, surprisingly it was very quiet, there was no queue when I went through the check out.

ohtowinthelottery · 22/12/2023 13:20

Went to Lidl on Thursday morning - no queue.
Been to the market this morning for veg, cheese, fish - only queue was at the cheese stall but only waited 5 mins. Veg stall had 3 serving instead of the usual 1.
Meat was bought in farm shop a couple of weeks ago and is in the freezer. Won't be setting foot in a food shop for at least a week now.

LER83 · 22/12/2023 14:26

Just been in waitrose, loads of parking spots, straight to a till at the end! Longest queue was at the cheese counter!

TheSnowyOwl · 22/12/2023 14:42

Thankfully we got a home delivery earlier today with everything we will need for the next few days.

Iliketulips · 22/12/2023 15:51

I left home around 7.30am this morning - needed milk anyway and just decided spur of the moment to do it. Got everything I wanted and walked straight to tills.

Laiste · 22/12/2023 16:03

We got to Tesco at half 8 with a military grade shopping list and was out by half 9 😊

In fact we then went for coffee upstairs in M&S (got a really lucky parking spot) and sat and watched the car park turn into bedlam before our eyes.

Home by 11.

I am expecting karma to bite me on the arse for being smug 😂

AnnaMagnani · 22/12/2023 16:09

Went to large Tesco at lunchtime. It was like the end of the world was coming and no-one would be able to shop again.

Car Park was packed. Queue of 20+ for basket checkouts, trolleys not even worth thinking about.

I gave up, will try again on my way home.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 22/12/2023 16:16

M&S at 7pm yesterday. £80 on nibbles

Asda click and collect at 9am today, spent £230 on Christmas dinner, nice breakfast items for guests, a week's meals and a couple of bottles of wine. Several things were substituted badly, or were missing.

Went to a different Asda and managed to buy the missing /substituted items and some extra nibbles plus a bottle of whisky for a further £79.

All done now, not going back to the shops until maybe NYE
