Just been and did the food shopping for Christmas. Going daughter's on Christmas day so we don't need a turkey.
Left home at 9.30am.
First supermarket 1 hour. Spent £106
Second 40 minutes. Spent £58.
Both carparks were full.

Some of this was to last until next Friday.
And then we will just use the corner shop for bread, milk and fruit.

Tesco delivery this morning, DH will go for the meat at half six in the morning (we'll be awake, so he might as well) when the butcher opens and that will be us.

Just back from v quick trip to aldi and it was very quiet both in the shop and car park.

Crinkle77 · 22/12/2023 18:01

I didn't queue at all. Did scan as you shop at Tesco and straight through to the checkout where there was queue at all.

I was in M&S by about 10.30 this morning and it was madness! One of the shop floor assistants restocking shelves said she had even been kicked in the leg by someone who couldn't get something they wanted and a man was also walking around with a whistle and blowing it at anyone who got in his way 😳

I queued for just over an hour to pay for my food.

Absolutely peaceful,in fact i asked the assistant where everyone was,as i was dreading it! Quite lovely really.

I’ve been in our local Aldi and Waitrose yesterday/today mid afternoon and no queues at all.

Listeningtogold · 22/12/2023 18:40

@CormorantStrikesBack no we did the whole food shop and pay in one hour.

I've just nipped to Asda for a few bits to do us over the weekend, the car park was busier than usual but still plenty of spaces. The place looked like it had been ransacked though, hardly a loaf of bread to be had. The queue for the manned tills was pretty manic but I did scan and go and there was only one person in front of me at the machines.

Ive never been brave enough to go for Christmas Eve. Mine is coming tomorrow morning, so there’s still time to deal with any weird subs or missing items. (Ocado isn’t usually bad for those, but it does tend to get worse this time of year. Once I was given cubed pancetta instead of sliced, which doesn’t really work for pigs in blankets!)

Yes I did think of that but we are not dependent on it as we are having Christmas diner at our children’s home. I have bought a turkey though,as I like turkey and you can’t get it all year round.
It is funny I got called up by Ocado a couple of weeks ago as they were worried about the loads on their van on Christmas Eve. The woman who phoned had guessed that my order consisting of a turkey and 3 bottles of champagne was only a holding order and I would be adding more to it. I told her I would complete my order that day and she sent me a voucher for £9.99, the cost of the Christmas delivery.

LumiB · 22/12/2023 23:19

Longer than I needed to because adults who can read decided today they couldn't and queued in the basket self service line with a full trolley load even though there is trolley self service and the tills! And then the staff couldn't be bothered to enforce it. Not to mention there isn't even enough room to put your food on the side thats why they created trolley self service.

whats even more mind boggling is there are more trolley self service and tills to check out on than basket self service you couldn't make it up, utterly selfish idiots.

I'm finishing at midnight every night until Christmas Eve now, so anything that was missed tonight (8.30, checkouts busy but moving quickly) I can get when the shop closes and I'm the only one shopping 😁

christmaspawpaws · 22/12/2023 23:39

Click and collect tonight, £61 at Sainsburys

Actually took 45 mins as another customer had fucked off home with my chilled items. I had a strop and said I wasn't going in store to get them, and they needed to sort it
Customer returned with half my chilled items Angry
Eventually they went and picked my chilled stuff again, and sent me home with the actual order plus the other stuff the customer had returned and a £20 gift card
