How long did you stand in the queue

Just been and did the food shopping for Christmas. Going daughter's on Christmas day so we don't need a turkey.
Left home at 9.30am.
First supermarket 1 hour. Spent £106
Second 40 minutes. Spent £58.
Both carparks were full.

Some of this was to last until next Friday.
And then we will just use the corner shop for bread, milk and fruit.

You stood in a queue for an hour? Blimey

i went to Sainsbury’s, Morrisons on Weds evening. Aldi, coop, home bargains and Tesco last night and didn’t queue in any of them.

My online order is arriving Christmas Eve from Ocado.

eeek, I hope everything comes. My nerves can’t cope with online groceries at Xmas.

Doggymummar · 22/12/2023 16:29

Tesco delivered Christmas yesterday, and the farm delivered the meat on Wednesday

Aldi was fine at 9:20 this morning, few more cars in the carpark but nothing to write home about.

Tesco an hour later was hell on earth, queued to get in and out of the car park, had to wait for a trolley and was about 40 mins in the queue. Glad I was only getting gluten free bits and not a big shop

HeddaGarbled · 22/12/2023 16:33

Lovely local Tesco’s lovely employee opened up the till right in front of me after I’d been standing in the queue for a few minutes and invited me to use it. Started at around 8.00am and was out by just after 8.30am. Spent about £60. I have been getting bits in over the last month though and the meat was all from the butcher, another £60 approx.

Catinawhirl · 22/12/2023 16:33

Late morning shop at large Asda, busy but OK. However hideous queues for each till to back of shop. 30 minutes to queue for trolley self service, much better. Think queues for main tills were so long because they've replaced all but 6 with self service.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/12/2023 16:41

Went on Wednesday morning lots of good dates was very quiet

KnowThyself · 22/12/2023 16:41

Yesterday at 5pm queue in M&S about 30 seconds, 6pm queue for about 1 min in Aldi spent £100

Today picked up Camembert which Aldi had run out of and a couple of other bits in Tesco at 11 am and spent £20, queue for about 4 mins but chatted to a very excited little girl of six whose Dad was buying presents for his wife and she had helped choose. She also informed me how she leaves a carrot out for Santas reindeer, it felt like she thought I may need to know so I could do it as well. No tiny children in our family currently so was lovely to hear the utter excitement of a small child.

Alwaysthesunandthemoon · 22/12/2023 16:43

M&S was fairly busy yesterday but not much of a queue. Sainsbury's was busier than normal today but not as much as I expected. Their stock was quite low. There were very few turkeys or turkey crowns, none of their half price whole salmon sides and other shelves half empty.

TooTiredToChristmas77 · 22/12/2023 16:44

Giant tesco was chaos at lunchtime. Cars circling for a space, had to wait for hand blipper things to be restocked. Aisles packed. Look like many families have a big day out 😂.

But was just me, no rush, got round calmly and v grateful not to have to go there with DH who would find it beyond stressful. Spent £110. Getting turkey, stuffing and choc tart from M&s tomorrow. That'll be it for a week I hope!

MuddlingThroughLife · 22/12/2023 16:45

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/12/2023 13:01

No queues in M&S this morning.

I was in M&S by about 10.30 this morning and it was madness! One of the shop floor assistants restocking shelves said she had even been kicked in the leg by someone who couldn't get something they wanted and a man was also walking around with a whistle and blowing it at anyone who got in his way 😳

I queued for just over an hour to pay for my food.

dancinfeet · 22/12/2023 16:47

there was a queue of people waiting for trollies at our local Tesco this morning and the aisles were mayhem. Bumped 80% of my tesco shop onto my Lidl food list instead and got out of tesco with a handful of things in just under 30 mins, by only visiting a few aisles. Called in at Morrisons and Lidl afterwards and both were far less busy and much more civilised, both in the aisles and with reasonable normal friday type queues. Managed to get everything I needed.

topnoddy · 22/12/2023 16:48

Tesco this afternoon queuing down the isles for checkouts

Spent £10.47 !

Judellie · 22/12/2023 16:51

Went to Tesco last night around 7.45 after dropping off my friend's presents. It was busy but I didn't have to queue that long at the checkout - maybe 5 minutes max? Have walked everywhere today for bits and pieces as car parks manic - Sperdrug had an excellent sale of things for 2p (yes, really) so my daughter and I spent ages there finding bargains. Didn't have to queue at all, nobody else seemed very interested in the bargains.

fedupwithbeinghot · 22/12/2023 16:51

5 minutes at M&S

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 22/12/2023 17:03

Ocado turned up on time this morning and brought everything I ordered, except blackberries.

FizzyStream · 22/12/2023 17:05

Urgh went to pick up the turkey this afternoon. Finished work at 2pm took me 45 minutes to make a journey that normally takes 10 mins. Queued for 15 mins (even though it was a pre booked slot which I was on time for despite the traffic). Then took another 45 mins to get home (when it should've taken 10)
Luckily DH offered to make dinner tonight so I'm putting my feet up and starting the Christmas relax now......
At least until tomorrow morning when The Big Shop is being delivered and I've got to find room in the fridge for everything and hope to god nothing is missing / substituted or I'll have to brave the outside world again and don't think I can face that! Might just have quality street for Xmas dinner instead.

Flossflower · 22/12/2023 12:42

My online order is arriving Christmas Eve from Ocado.

Ive never been brave enough to go for Christmas Eve. Mine is coming tomorrow morning, so there’s still time to deal with any weird subs or missing items. (Ocado isn’t usually bad for those, but it does tend to get worse this time of year. Once I was given cubed pancetta instead of sliced, which doesn’t really work for pigs in blankets!)

ChimChimeny · 22/12/2023 17:27

We just need normal food & only a few bits so walked to Lidl, there wasnt. Queue for self service and more than the usual one till open so was easy, but the the traffic was horrendous! Has been all day when I've checked Google maps, who knows where everyone is going but it wasnt Lidl...

OrchardApples · 22/12/2023 17:30

Just done ours at the local Tesco. I was 25 people back in the Que! Each Que was the same- queing down the aisles! It was carnage, I saw people literally arguing over last bit of ham!

rockinginarockingchair · 22/12/2023 17:33

I done my normal shop at the start of the week and got it delivered.
Not the whole christmas shop not done that in years.

blobby10 · 22/12/2023 17:33

Sainsbirys, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl all chaos this morning /lunchtime - they all share two car parks and drivers turned into total knobs for some reason. Wasn’t expecting it to be so busy today - thought that would be tomorrow /sunday !

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 22/12/2023 17:34

It's being delivered tomorrow and I've didn't £180.

No queues. No parking.

honeyandfizz · 22/12/2023 17:35

CormorantStrikesBack · 22/12/2023 16:27

eeek, I hope everything comes. My nerves can’t cope with online groceries at Xmas.

Just had my Tesco delivery and not a single item substituted - first year I have done it and was well chuffed 😊

ExpensiveDecorations · 22/12/2023 17:36

Went to Aldi, Sainsburys and Waitrose yesterday afternoon between about 1 and 3pm. They were busy but well stocked and no queues in any of them (I used self checkout in Aldi as I only bought a couple of things but traditional tills in the others). Got the whole lot done very easily. None of the car parks remotely full either.
