Roast goose, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and parsnips, sprouts and chestnuts, spiced red cabbage, apple sauce, bread sauce, gravy.

Ooh this sounds nice. I nearly went for goose but I chicken out ( 😉 ) because I've never had it before or cooked it.
Any tips to make it fool proof for next year?

MintJulia · 20/12/2023 18:00

Roast duck, roast potatoes, carrots, buttered swede, sprouts, pigs in blankets, stuffing with port gravy

Followed by Christmas pud, mince pies, cream and ginger ice cream.

The only thing is I made 12 mince pies yesterday and Ds has already eaten 8 of them. 😀 I'll have to make another batch.

HarryOHayandBettyOBarley · 20/12/2023 18:00

Chicken, potatoes (prob roasted and mash), parsnips, carrots, stuffing and gravy. I will buy whatever I can buy ready made from M&S and its just a matter of bunging it into the oven/microwave). Pretty much a normal dinner excluding the stuffing to be honest. I'm not a fan of dinners at all and I'm definitely not a fan of washing up every saucepan I own.

A brie and cranberry pie (dh and dc have a joint of beef), roast parsnips, sprouts and potatoes, steamed field veg, Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes and a big pile of stuffing. All topped with loads of thick onion gravy and some mint sauce, with a slice or two of thick white bread to soak up the excess gravy.

Usually I'd make turkey or chicken and have roast potatoes, mashed potato, stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, carrots, roast parsnips, peas and gravy with it. This year first time having Christmas dinner at MILs, we're having turkey crown, roast potatoes and parsnips, sprouts, peas, stuffing, red cabbage and onion gravy.

Not a fan of Christmas type feasts. But We are all different so hope you enjoy whatever you desire!

We are abroad for Christmas anyway just us two, so are having poached salmon, lemon butter, baby potatoes, (no roasties omg) and some veggies. No starter, but a shop bought dessert which I haven't got yet! Then to a local spot for a couple of drinks of fizz, hopefully a nice atmosphere, and home for bits and bobs like nuts, crisps and a few chips and cocktail sausages, or whatever I can find.

Wishing you all a very nice feast 😊

Ooh this sounds nice. I nearly went for goose but I chicken out ( 😉 ) because I've never had it before or cooked it.
Any tips to make it fool proof for next year?

I use Gordon Ramsay’s timings for it - here.

I get it ready on Christmas Eve - I pull out the loose pads of fat in the cavity, and prick it all over with a sharp fork, so the fat renders out when it roasts. The loose fat gets rendered down (heated in a pan until it melts), then I use that, and the fat from the roasting tin, for the roast potatoes and parsnips.

I drain the fat out of the pan part way through the cooking time too - that helps, I think.

I make gravy, because dh and the dses like gravy (my mum thought gravy was an invention of the devil, so I grew up without it, and only want a tiny bit now), and bread sauce because I can’t have Christmas dinner without it, and spiced apple sauce to cut the fattiness of the meat.

Oooooh can I join? I love threads about food.
Whilst we dont 'celebrate' per se as we are Jewish we like to join in customs as we are Btitish and are having a get together with all our family. I am cooking...

On the menu is:
Turkey Breast Roll Joint
Beef mini cocktail sausages in sticky sauce
Honeyed Carrots
'Buttered' leeks
Cranberry and Apple Vegetarian Stuffing
Fine green beans drizzled with olive oil and Rock salt
Sprouts
Red Cabbage
Roast Potatoes in a lemon garlic salt crumb
Cranberry sauce
LOADS of gravy!

Happy Christmas to you all I hope you have a wonderful day!
