Tempted to let kids stay home tomorrow

Shithole101 · 19/12/2023 17:55

Kids finish school at 1.30 tomorrow. I leave home to take them at 7.30am. I get home around 9.30am... I then leave at 2pm to get them then home around 4.15. Tomorrow I would have to leave home at 12 to collect them so I would only have 2.5 hrs till I get them.

I have not been sleeping very well even though I'm tired I'm sleeping around 4 hours a night and keep waking up during that time. Worst night was 2 hrs sleep. And I feel ill but can't explain in what way . Maybe it's linked with tiredness

Id be tempted to do the same...does seem a very very long commute to school

LenaLamont · 19/12/2023 17:56

Nah, sod it, it's not going to make a difference to their education. Enjoy a PJs morning!

Torganer · 19/12/2023 17:56

Why don’t you take them in, call in sick to work as you are feeling under the weather and have a good sleep?

Yep I would too!

A 2 hour school run twice a day I'm not surprised you're tired. I would definitely leave it tomorrow if it's the last day and you're feeling tired and unwell. Is there any prospect of the school run getting shorter?

Is there anywhere near the school you can hang about for a bit? Nice cafe? Library? Cinema? Take a magazine, book and get some snacks to have a nice few hours. Or is there a spa near school where you could rest in a steam room? Nice treat for you.

The last day is exciting for kids so I'd send them in.

No will be like it till they leave the school. I don't feel overly ill . Can't even explain it. I'm thinking maybe they won't be doing much at school tomorrow

If they aren’t bothered about going in then don’t send them. But the last day at school before Christmas is usually fun for them so I’d send them in and enjoy the nap.

Goldwakeme · 19/12/2023 18:26

Why is the school run so long? No wonder you're exhausted.

They might not be doing any school work but last day of term is usually fun activities and everyone being excited together.

WithACatLikeTread · 19/12/2023 18:28

Why did you choose such a long commute? Most people choose a closer one. That is your fault really.

YourNameGoesHere · 19/12/2023 18:29

Gosh that school run is bananas no wonder you're so exhausted! Is there a reason for the insane commute it doesn't sound sustainable long term?

LifeIsGreatForUnicorns · 19/12/2023 18:30

Let the kids decide !

MsMaraschino · 19/12/2023 18:32

My children are only in until lunchtime tomorrow, but are looking forward to it. Would yours be disappointed if they stayed home?

They had their party's today. So I doubt they are doing much . And I can't really sit un a cafe for 3 hours . Plus the point is I don't want to leave my house or get up in the morning.

That's not unsurprising given how long it takes them to get there and back.

Rudolphtherednoseddog · 19/12/2023 18:36

Have you seen a GP? Because unless you have disabilities or health issues, “I’m too tired/don’t want to leave the house/don’t want to get up” are ridiculous reasons for your children to miss school, end of term or not.

It's because my older kids went there . Then the younger ones joined them and it's gone on from there. I did used to live closer to tje school. I won't change schools they are settled

They would say the same if I lived next door to the school

How long have they got left at the school? I appreciate it's nice they are settled and the reason you use the school but they surely can't possibly be reaching their full potential with having to leave so early and such a long commute. You've moved too far away for it to be viable and in all honesty unless they are in year 6 it might be kinder to let them move to the local school, they'd settle just as well there I'm sure.

sprigatito · 19/12/2023 18:41

Why can't you sit in a cafe for three hours? I bloody would, I'd take a book and my laptop and headphones and it would be bliss.

There won't be any educational disadvantage to keeping them off, but it's a bit of a shame from the social point of view. The kids will all be happy and excited and doing fun stuff.
