Tempted to let kids stay home tomorrow

Shithole101 · 19/12/2023 17:55

Kids finish school at 1.30 tomorrow. I leave home to take them at 7.30am. I get home around 9.30am... I then leave at 2pm to get them then home around 4.15. Tomorrow I would have to leave home at 12 to collect them so I would only have 2.5 hrs till I get them.

I have not been sleeping very well even though I'm tired I'm sleeping around 4 hours a night and keep waking up during that time. Worst night was 2 hrs sleep. And I feel ill but can't explain in what way . Maybe it's linked with tiredness

It litterly the 15 muns to drive.

Ah OP - it's a 15 minute drive? And an hour's journey on public transport? There has to be an option to drive.

Coolstorysis · 19/12/2023 19:43

Have a nice cosy day, I can see why attendance doesn't seem quite so important to people when people were left adrift in lock down. Broke that part of social contract nicely.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/12/2023 19:45

OP you are running on empty. I know, because I've been there too (and am still to a degree, 3 DC, single parent, demanding job, dealing with a lot of pressure).

All you can do is look for some more sustainable situations.

Stay at home, get an early night and sleep in if you're able. Enjoy it.

I can't drive I tried so many times over the years I have manged to fail in an automatic 9 times. I think it could be linked with my learning difficulties. Not sure though but either way I'm shit at driving.

Have you seen a GP? Because unless you have disabilities or health issues, “I’m too tired/don’t want to leave the house/don’t want to get up” are ridiculous reasons for your children to miss school, end of term or not.

Sorry but you are being ridiculous.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/12/2023 20:04

I'm sorry @Shithole101 (side note - I wish you'd change your u/n, only because I have seen your threads about your home, and it seems so harsh on yourself: it's clear you are doing a great job at progressing the tasks in your house, so that's an unfair u/n to choose).

I can't offer any further advice on driving but I hope there might some option around either school transport or an alternative school. 💐

I will change it at some point . I'm kind of using it to track my journey.

The school run is normally OK. I have been doing it for a long time. This is likely a one of situation.

Did you miss the bit whete I said I felt ill. I have only been sleeping 4 hours a night. Including waking up during that time. The worst night been 2 hours sleep

And well yes I'm tired and don't want to get up or leave the house. That's a normal feeling if you have not very sleeping well

I did a 9 hour shift on 4 hours of sleep the other day. Life goes on.

I don’t really understand why you can’t move them to a school closer to home. Is there nowhere that would be right for your child with SEN?

If a child has SN and they are settled in a school even far away, it's hard to move them because they don't adapt as well as children without SN can. If they have a space in a special school like my Foster Son had, if you moved them you'd be very unlikely to get another place in a special school because they are massively oversubscribed.

👍

I'm sure if I phoned in sick at work because I was tired it would not go down too well.
Suck it up for one day, then you have the rest of the holidays.

Is there anywhere near the school you can hang about for a bit? Nice cafe? Library? Cinema? Take a magazine, book and get some snacks to have a nice few hours. Or is there a spa near school where you could rest in a steam room? Nice treat for you.

The last day is exciting for kids so I'd send them in.

Spa

Really?

User69371527 · 19/12/2023 20:35

Personally I’d suck it up for one more day and get some Xmas shopping done near the school or go to a cafe or see a friend. Then there’s two weeks plus off so then you can rest.

Does my op just say I'm tired . Would I phone the school and tell them half a story .

Again I've managed to do a full shift when I feel ill too as well as tired .
Life has to go on.

Have to realise in life you can't just take days off when you want to/feeling run down.

Suck it up. It's a few hours. 🤷‍♀️

It's not a competition. How you manage things what you do is your choice. Well done for doing a 9 hour shift when your ill or tired. I'm sorry that I'm not as good as you are I take my hat of to you.

It's a few hours, honestly you're making a massive deal out of it.

After tomorrow there's like 2 weeks off?

YoBeaches · 19/12/2023 20:53

OP if you're only getting 2-4 hrs sleep a night even if it's a phase you are suffering with Insomnia and that can be a cause of your health issues or a symptom of stress/ anxiety/ depression etc

Even if it's short lived symptoms, the GP can probably help. I feel like you need more help from them to help you into better health.

YoBeaches · 19/12/2023 20:54

Oh and incase it's not been considered, could you be menopausal? You describe a lot of the symptoms.

ChilledToTheBone · 19/12/2023 20:54

Have a chilled out day with your dc.
I would and have done. And i live opposite my dc school! Like a 30 second walk.

I'm gonna be contacting my gp anyway . So what ever it is it will get sorted

Wow people are so judgmental! I kept my daughter off last week for her last day as I was exhausted. Frankly didn’t want to get up and she was missing singing that she didn’t want to do anyway. Big woop! Guess what, it makes your children feel special and loved that you want to spend the time with them. And models prioritising self care! I hope you have a lovely lie in tomorrow and your children enjoy the time with their mum. Lovely start to the Xmas holidays! Feel sorry for anyone who feels there is something wrong with that

How old are you? You're typing like a 12 year old.
The kids have 2 weeks of school holidays coming up imminently.
They can have their 'self care' and 'time with mum' during the school holidays.
