That a parent could isolate themself from their unwell child. I can’t even fathom denying any of my kids love and confort when they are sick or hurt.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2023 08:56

Someeone on an abortion rights thread, who said it should be extended to allow infanticide

MRSMTO · 19/12/2023 08:57

@enchantedsquirrelwood

The government said more or less exactly this yesterday: Spiking to be targeted in raft of new measures - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If you go right to the end it says "The government has also created new offences to criminalise acts such as non-fatal strangulation"

And I'll continue to have (as a married for 17 years, 40 year old woman) the kind of sex with my husband that we want whether someone tells me it's a criminal offence or not. After all, my body, my choice right?!

The woman who let her small child walk back from school on their own after dark in winter. The police had spoken to her about this as her child had already been approached by a stranger with a car. She carried on letting him walk home alone as she wanted him to learn independence. Poor child must have been so frightened.

I would imagine that one was a troll.

Nah, it wasn't Angus - it was definitely Andrew something

Angus Og (originally Angus Ã’g) ran from 1960 to 1989, first in the Glasgow Bulletin and then in the Daily Record and The Sunday Mail. "Ã’g" is Scottish Gaelic for "young". Best pal Lachie Mor.

FrenchandSaunders · 19/12/2023 09:01

I still remember Expatinscotland and her young DD who passed away with cancer. Her posts were so raw and moving. There's a song that comes on the radio now and then that reminds me of that time. I don't think she's on here anymore, or has a different name. I often wonder how her family are.

orangegato · 19/12/2023 09:02

A thread where a woman’s husband pretended to mow the lawn in the rain to speak/argue with the neighbours niece or something. She knocked on neighbours door to ask wtf as was told to ‘leave her family alone’. I never did find out what the husband had been up to, anyone else remember this one?!!

EvelynKatie · 19/12/2023 09:03

Obviously there are numerous threads on here about abusive relationships that are pretty shocking. But the most shocking thing to me is just how many people on here are afraid to answer a knock on their front door or talk to their neighbour.

I’m always amazed that people on here are amazed that people won’t answer an unexpected knock on their door! When I was a woman living alone it seemed a bit strange that I would be expected to just open my door to a stranger?

The poster had the wrong name, it was AndrewOgg or AndrewFogg, not Angus Og, but thanks

Whitecup24 · 19/12/2023 09:05

Cost of living one with a lady who showered in the bath and kept the water for cleaning the rest of the bathroom and the bathroom floor and same thread a family of 4 who had timed showers and all jumped in one after the other. I think about those in the shower all the time.

time4aNC · 19/12/2023 02:10

This thread was so long ago I’m not sure I’m remembering it correctly but a poster let their holiday home to a neighbour for free. The neighbour in question had been harassing them about it and OP gave in.

When OP went to their holiday home for a holiday the neighbours family was in there! They had made a copy of the key.

Isn't that one called something like the Mexican house thief?

CaribbeanCupcake · 19/12/2023 09:06

@EvelynKatie yes I remember this one- they were having an affair! 😩

It's personal choice, if two people in a consenting relationship want to explore strangulation then it is totally their choice

And if its consensual and nothing goes wrong then no one will ever know. But abusive or careless men will never again be able to hide behind "consent" as a defence for the women they kill.

Ladybaga · 19/12/2023 09:06

@orangegato I remember this too but unfortunately cant remember the conclusion either! I hope someone comes along with the answer.

Great thread btw OP.

BrilliantEarth · 19/12/2023 09:07

There was a truly shocking thread in which the OP essentially said that she and her partner were emotionally abusing their children. Loads of people became very angry about it (and questioned whether she was a troll - clearly hoping she was).

What was even more shocking was that MNHQ suspended the angry/dubious posters (myself included), and let the thread stand - although social services should have been informed about what was going on, if it was true. It was the worst thing I have ever read on here.

I still hope it was a troll.

PricklePop · 19/12/2023 09:07

I mean, it's not a legal defence, you can't accidentally strangle someone to death and go whoopsie I had no idea

MadeOfAllWork · 19/12/2023 09:08

Any thread about washing and hygiene is always interesting.

Are you and your partner fully aware of the risks?

I am shocked every single day at what women will put up with in their relationships. Obviously I am also shocked at the way some men behave.

The actual thread that shocked me was a woman who said she was dying, and it was so fake, but everybody believed it and was saying they loved her, and they would miss her, even though she had no previous threads etc. she made enough posts to keep people interested, and then after she "died" then her husband came on to talk about her. Her husband sounded just like her.

I have read enough heartbreaking threads on here where people have discovered they have cancer or another serious illness to recognise one where someone is just taking the piss. It was really shocking to me how everybody believed her even though she was clearly just lying through her teeth.

PhulNana · 19/12/2023 09:12

@Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter

folk who don't understand/cannot accept the concept of fact and opinion not being the same.

I worked with a bloke who showed this to an astonishing degree. He not only thought, but actually believed, that e.g. 'olives are disgusting'.

BrilliantEarth · 19/12/2023 09:13

@determinedtomakethiswork I was a bit gobsmacked by that one too. "Here's a photo of a beach for you, darling Pamela xxxxxxx"
