Just that really.. (Kind of lighthearted/maybe not!)

I believe there's a middle ground between making a bit of kinky choking illegal and letting dudes who murder their girlfriends use it as an excuse.
It would not suprise me if all the men who use "it was part of sex" as an excuse to strangle their girlfriend to death had murder on their minds the whole time

That's the whole point of what we're saying.

Really? I guess I missed that among all the posters saying anyone who likes a little choking is a sick fuck married to a wannabe murderer

Onwegointohappytimes · 19/12/2023 20:33

What would be the word if someone now posted they liked to be choked whilst eating American cheese, thus becoming the worst thing you've read on MN?

Boomboom22 · 19/12/2023 20:42

I think some people might be waking up to the fact their partner doesn't care if they kill them, yes.
Any man that agrees instead of being shocked is not a keeper.

Boomboom22 · 19/12/2023 20:44

The proposed law is quite similar to dv law. It is no longer considered ok for abused women to say they want to drop charges, if it is a crime cps can prosecute anyway.
In much the same way, like marital rape before it and dv laws now, this new law will make it clear noone can consent to this and choking is not ever able to be consented to.
Thank goodness.

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 19/12/2023 20:45

I remember this thread too, it was heartbreaking. The child was a baby if I recall correctly and she documented when the baby left their care. Wonderful and heartbreaking all in one thread.

Edited to say this was in response to @ShortMotherfuckerWithTheIvoryHair

A woman who’s hack for dealing with her kid getting dog poo on his wellies was to run them through the dishwasher.

Noooo!

I can't remember her name, but the lovely poster who fostered a child who was born from a drug addicted mother. It was heartbreaking and so wonderful at the same time. So much love born out of such sad circumstances. I think she died also. I wonder how the child is doing now.

This one. Just getting the hang of quotes!

Not the worst by a long shot but I think it was maybe a thread about weird places you’ve had sex and a woman mentioned her and her husband had done it in her child’s hospital room, I want to say on Valentine’s Day.

Sex behind a curtain on Maternity ward with 3 other ladies in the room all being induced.

CathyFoundAHome · 19/12/2023 20:53

I actually do use my dishwasher to clean pet stuff too but I use it pretty much exclusively just for that (and on the rare occasions I use it for kitchen items, I run an empty cycle with dishwasher cleaner first).

HRTQueen · 19/12/2023 21:06

I often think of the thread about pebbles being taken from the beach. The discussion got so heated. Only on MN 😆

seriously some beautiful uplifting stories others terribly sad ones have stayed with me one and o think of a number of posters and their families/the people they were discussing. One thread in particular about how things we remembered from our childhood that we couldn’t make sense of until we were well into adulthood was absolutely harrowing

Anothenamechange · 19/12/2023 20:00

Sorry, that was in response to @determinedtomakethiswork

There have been lots of fake threads but I'd be gonsmacked if that one was.

It wasn't - a couple of us posted earlier today that the death notice was easily found via Google. She was disbelieved because the way she reacted to and spoke about her terminal illness wasn't the way people imagined they would react and speak in the same circumstance. Some really awful stuff was posted about her and her husband on Tattle and Reddit, even though it was established very early on that these were real people - she didn't hide her identity and was quickly found on FB and Twitter. It was awful.

Perhaps it's because she posted a photo with her family about a 5 minute walk from my house that it got under my skin.

newembarrasseduser · 19/12/2023 21:24

"That a poster said they share a small portion of fish and chips between a family of four as 'that's plenty' along with a massive salad. I think of them every time I go to the chippy and tuck into my dinner 😱😂"

I can relate to the poster. A few years ago I was in Margate for the weekend and got fish and chips at the local chippy. It was the smallest portion and the chips could easily have fed a family of four...

ZoeCM · 19/12/2023 21:33

There was a thread where a woman had two or three sons, all conceived via IVF, and was now unexpectedly pregnant again - this time with a girl. She said the only reason she was even considering keeping the baby was that she'd always wanted a daughter, and that she would have aborted without question if the baby had been another son. That was disturbing enough as it was, but to top it off, one poster said it was "a bit sad" that she'd had IVF in the first place instead of just having her "miracle girl". Outright saying it was a shame that the OP's sons existed. And the OP didn't even object to this!

Daisychainsandglitter · 19/12/2023 21:34

There was a poster who not only had suicidal thoughts but thoughts about also killing her own children. Chilling to read. I hope things turned out ok in the end.

MRSMTO · 19/12/2023 11:05

@EtiennePalmiere what's with the 'cool wives' bullshit? I see it trotted out on MN all the time as though it's some kind of insult!

Again, my body, my choice. I don't like feathery strokey sex, find it irritating and in no way fulfilling. I don't want sweet nothings whispered at me. Others do? Good for them heres a round of applause. I don't. So again, I will continue to have the kind of sex that me and my husband enjoy and I really couldn't give a fuck whether someone doesn't 'understand' it or tries to explain the risks to me. I'll draw up a risk assessment and method statement if it would please for next time.

*Waves hello to the man on the thread

HRTQueen · 19/12/2023 21:36

risk assessment for stopping oxygen getting to the brain

right …. 🙄

@CatMadam if your eyes and nose work you really don't need to know the sell by date of anything. It's the greatest trick ever pulled on consumers.

Not all food poisoning bacteria make the food smell.
People get confused between food spoilage- caused by bacteria or fungi that make the food go “off” but are often not dangerous- and contamination by food poisoning organisms. Your food can be contaminated by food poisoning organisms but not visibly spoiled and not smelly.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 19/12/2023 22:32

As far as I can see, what’s been said about the law on strangulation during sex is quite wrong. It’s not outlawed at all. And there has never been a ‘choking’ or ‘rough sex’ defence to murder or any other charge. It’s an issue of fact, not law.

The legal change appears to be codification of R v Brown, i.e. no one can consent to physical harm without very good reason, and sexual thrill is not a good reason. But that is about harm, not practice.

I don’t much care TBH - because it’s not something I have done or would ever do - but I do think legal folklore should be stamped on.

We cook food to eliminate the risk of contamination by food poisoning organisms, and contamination doesn't magically happen when food gets to its best by date. Food can be totally in date and contaminated.

I can believe getting choked is something some women enjoy. Some women also enjoy smoking crack - doesn't make it a good idea!

But I find the stories of women murdered in this way far more compelling than the "consenting adults" thing - we can't consent to this https://wecantconsenttothis.uk/

Isn't there something called 'vagal inhibition'?

Yep:

https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/non-fatal-strangulation-or-non-fatal-suffocation

Strangulation / choking / suffocation / whatever during sex isn’t illegal. Doing so while intending to cause harm OR being reckless about causing harm is illegal.

It’s a pretty weird looking law, to me, not a criminal expert. But yeah, bottom line is that the consent of the victim (alleged or otherwise) isn’t a defence against ABH or above, unless there are “special circumstances” which I guess will come out in case law.

sorry to prolong the derail…

I remember a thread where a woman posted that very shortly after giving birth that she was so overcome with love for her DH that she gave him a blowjob from her hospital bed. It didn't go well. I'm pretty sure it was a troll.
