So now I have cleaned house. I want to decorate my boys room. And add a few bits to make it feel nicer . I want the room to feel bright and happy. I don't want anything dark. I know they want a rug with rainbow colours so I can base it on that ? But looking for suggestions. All the walks atecwhitecat the moment

I'm.not sure what furniture to put in. Their clothes are not kept in the bedroom . So really it's just their toys.

They are age 7 and 8

Definitely bedside rabies and night lights

Bedside rabies 😂

Spaghettieis · 18/12/2023 21:32

I think the bed is fine where it is. I had my bed next to the window growing up and it wasn’t cold, it was nice to be able to lie in bed and peek out!

It's not cold. It has triple glazing. And yes ds likes to look at the lights

Bedside rabies and nuggets are a match made in designer heaven

EllaPaella · 18/12/2023 21:46

I'd paint the wall behind the beds a deep dark blue like Hague blue. Have some white shelves on the walls for books. A white kallax unit as suggested with pull out baskets. More neutral curtains.
Needs a floor lamp to make it look more cosy, I'd go for a tripod one.
Some LED lights around the walls it maybe some star shaped fairy lights would also look great.

EllaPaella · 18/12/2023 21:47

Sorry just saw you don't want anything dark - how about a lighter blue?

StBrides · 18/12/2023 21:48

I would put the bed by the window against the opposite wall so it's facing the other way. Then the window becomes a nice focal point in the room.

I agree blue walls would look good but it's a large room so you can afford to go darker than pale blue. Vertical stripes would look amazing and help balance the length of the room.

Or a warm neutral colour, or light blue walls, with red stripes on the ceiling, radiating out from the middle so it looks like a circus tent.

Lots of great ideas on Pinterest.

Couple of beanbags. Lamp for each bed.

I'm not painting the ceiling no way 😅 the beds are definitely staying as they are

Definitely not dark

Fair enough, I'm not sure I could be bothered putting stripes on the ceiling either!

I would mess it up badly

I have read the full post and seen your responses but will add my voice to the choir. The first thing I would do is move the bed from the window. I get your point about wanting the play space so I would move it 90 degrees and so the head is where the stepped ikea unit currently is.

And as you don't need any wardrobe storage then just add some more kallax type toy storage and a bright rug. Plus some colourful lighting which is so cheap and easy now with LED strips. It's a great size of room for kids to share. With boys at 7&8 it's best to leave space for future gaming set ups too!

funsymumsy · 18/12/2023 22:16

I'd add some warm coloured lamps, Ikea have some nice kids wall lamps. Definitely some kallax or other toy storage. Give them each a bedside table to store personal bits in. I'd change the curtains to something a bit warmer/thicker and definitely turn the bed 90 degrees (head where the stepped shelves are). Get a rainbow rug or it's a great wall for a statement wallpaper.

Wall stickers are definitely easy
These are both from eBay and weren't expensive

You don’t want advice. The bed by the window is awful. Aesthetically it’s always going to look crap there regardless of triple glazing.

Advice is just that. I don't have to take it. I have asked for ideas of decorating things to add to the room . I never asked if I should move the bed. I don't care if you think it looks crap .

But you obviously do care otherwise you wouldn’t have started this thread. And everyone is advising you to move the bed.
I’m absolutely awful at interior decorating, I need help, I’ve got the visual equivalent of a tin ear. I can see the bed looks wrong there, posters who know more about interior design have suggested moving it. At least consider moving it!

No I really don't care . As I said again I never asked for advice about moving the bed. I don't care that you think if looks crap. Because I make a thread does not mean I have to care what you think about the bed

Have you asked them what they'd like ? At 7 and 8 do they want rainbows

Copperoliverbear · 18/12/2023 23:49

I would put the headboard of the bed that is against the window at the other end.
So when they're in bed they can see each other and talk and the bed would be by the window but not the top and of it.
I would not have rainbows I think it's too babyish given their ages.
I'd ask them for some ideas maybe football decals on the walls ( small footballs) and I have added a picture of something personalised to go above each of their beds.
A bedside table each and some kallax units for toys. Obviously doesn't have to be a football theme just something they're into dinosaurs, ect. I can't see an 8 year old wanting rainbows personally.

I still think a theme might be better, I think they would grow out of rainbow colours quickly, I think they're for more like under fives. X

FuckityFuckBollocks · 19/12/2023 00:06

Whatever you do, please please move that bed away from the window. I’ve seen your posts before OP and it really bothers me. It is a lovely, full-length window and the bed completely blocks it. Can you but the beds in L-shape with a small table/storage in between? Or maybe out the other bed to the right of the window along the long wall if you can?
