@Whataretheodds not lametta, no BUT you have made my day because I didn't know what to search to find that stuff. And I also love that!

Type "foil streamers Christmas" into Amazon. 👌 @hugohumbug

Such a love / hate relationship with Amazon. The company I work for is a supplier to them and they are arseholes but there's nothing they don't sell! I will definitely be ordering. Thank you!

snowlady4 · 17/12/2023 13:31

Anything shiny is frowned upon now as it can't be recycled!
I personally love tinsel. And I will be attempting to stock up in January if I can find any! I want to decorate like a real 1980s Christmas next year- saw a girl on tiktok who recreated her childhood Christmas and I am so doing this next year! I actually cried watching the tiktok!

Just googled it - what nostalgia!

I got some in Tesco end of November. They had quite a lot then- maybe sold out?

FredaFox · 17/12/2023 13:41

Apart from the comments already mentioned re 80s and environment, it's the week before Christmas, shelves are empty for lots of things

Isseywith3witchycats · 17/12/2023 15:07

mine goes back in the bag after christmas and has done for the last five years the poor tree though has had to go to the tip this year as my cats have mangled it and broken the base so going to be treeless for the rest of christmas, but this is a tree i bought 6 years ago so not feeling that guilty about buying a new one next year

ChilledToTheBone · 17/12/2023 15:10

Tesco bm etc had it but was oct /Nov time. Its a week b4 xmas so prob sold out.

margegunderson · 17/12/2023 17:22

All you tinsel snobs - I've a carrier bag of it which is all between 35 and 12+ years old and this year it enabled me to use a potted tree for the umpteenth time which is a bit bare in the middle but fine at ends and top. So not a bad environmental choice.

SoupDragon · 17/12/2023 17:28

Tinsel is no more bad for the environment than any other item made of plastic. It's far better than the single use plastic packaging than a lot of gifts /day to day items/food will come in. It's a shit argument. My tinsel has been reused for many, many years.

John Lewis had lots a week ago. Nice big fat tinsel (but expensive!).

BlueberryVelvet · 17/12/2023 12:41

Thank goodness, it’s horrible for the environment!

As is the majority of christmas 💁‍♀️

kwetu · 17/12/2023 17:39

Homebase near me has a good selection.

InefficientProcess · 17/12/2023 17:43

i find that garden centres tend to have an excellent tinsel selection. Possibly on sale at this point too.

LSTMS30555 · 17/12/2023 17:58

I love my tinsel I did buy it back in 2000 when I got my first house 😁 I love a traditional Christmas tree with tinsel & I still have all the bits my DC made for our tree throughout the years.
I hate the more modern trees all just 1 or 2 colours (yak) boring.

Tilllly · 17/12/2023 18:02

B&m
Tesco

Both had lots yesterday

Tho only blue lametta
Blue?!

Riapia · 17/12/2023 18:22

Nothing says traditional Christmas like bits of tinsel…….in the carpet in March.
😉😁😁.

Just one or two colours isn't a modern thing! My DM always had red and gold, which I carried on as an adult in my own home (I don't have real candles on my tree like she did though! 🔥😱). From memory, DGM also had red and gold. I'm 40. I like it, it looks smart and traditional.

I love tinsel too. Mine is all 15-35yrs old, although DCs also have a couple of lengths each for their rooms/to start their own collection of decorations which have been bought in the last 7yrs (obviously, given their ages!). That doesn't feel environmentally irresponsible.

Candycurrantbun · 17/12/2023 19:57

I bloody love tinsel. Some of mine is years old.

hugohumbug · 17/12/2023 20:03

@SkankingWombat I always go gold and red too. Classic!

DrCoconut · 17/12/2023 20:07

It's all on my tree after the kids decorated it 🤣

jollygreenpea · 17/12/2023 20:13

Tesco had plenty in today, and it was reduced, down to 50p.

wherethewildthingsgo · 17/12/2023 20:54

B&Q has lots

EducatingArti · 17/12/2023 20:58

Home Bargains and The Range have both had lots in.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 17/12/2023 21:07

Do you have any cheap independent card shops where you live ? Ours have tinsel in . I do miss Wilco for Christmas stuff .

Floralnomad · 17/12/2023 21:08

Loads in our local Tesco , can’t abide the stuff
