Unfortunately I was absent for the thrilling climax to the game yesterday, and offer belated congratulations to LlynTegid. It's not often you see that move deployed with such laser-like accuracy.
A last hurrah before we all disperse for our traditional mid-winter break? (I'm for the Canaries this year with the curate and his new-ish special friend, a dear young man).
I'll start us off with a good invigorating Hudson's Cast: Goodge Street.

It’s very late, so I’m taking the midnight train to

Gloucester Road

MarkWithaC · 13/06/2024 08:51

This is a bit of a sticky situation, but I think a double backstop should see us right: Wanstead.

LlynTegid · 14/06/2024 07:26

I think another short move, so to Gants Hill it is.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 14/06/2024 09:58

My copy of "Reynolds Guide to Semi-Lateral Pass Theory" has arrived so I shall have a read over the weekend to see if I can pick up any useful hints. My only concern is that it is the 1978 printing rather than the 1984.

Anyhow, in that spirit I shall go to Chesham.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/06/2024 10:27

Ah, Reynolds. One of my favourite books. In fact, I seldom leave home without its 540 pages in my reticule.

Fairlop

MarkWithaC · 16/06/2024 15:42

There was some controversy over the 1984 reprint; suggestions that, I think, the section on passing in relation to the Hickman Manoeuvre had possibly been sabotaged. The culprit was rumoured to have been planted in the printing firm.
In short, I think 1978 is a solid choice.

Blackhorse Lane; nothing to do with Reynolds but inspired by Maud's very elegant sideslant above.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/06/2024 18:02

Well, thank you kindly. Time, I think, for a Penfold’s Obverse to

Hanger Lane

HazelBite · 16/06/2024 21:34

Talking of the Hickman manoeuvre I feel inspired to go to Rickmansworth

LlynTegid · 17/06/2024 07:46

The misspelt station rule takes us back to Fairlop, from which I go to South Woodford

Useyourname · 17/06/2024 12:15

By reference to my 1978 (ahem) Reynolds I take a lateral inverse and play Oxford Circus

MarkWithaC · 17/06/2024 12:56

Tricky play all round. I can only try to counter by invoking an old favourite of the Colonel's (although rumour has it it was originally a favourite of the Colonel's... companion every summer at Maidenhead)
Neasden, with O'Farrell's Dictum.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 17/06/2024 19:54

Gosh, things have really accelerated in complexity since I last made a move. I am only about halfway through the Reynolds, but think I will try my hand at a minor sideslip to Becontree as described in chapter 4, subsection 2a(i).

Useyourname · 17/06/2024 20:10

I'm going to play a stopton's break:

Becontree

Incidentally - I don't believe it's come up yet - do we play included decommissioned and heritage stations or are you part of the live lines collective?

DuckonaBike · 17/06/2024 20:21

Good heavens Useyour - a Stopton’s! I’ve heard of them, but never seen one in the wild.

In answer to your question, I personally have no truck with the live lines collective. In proof of which, Brompton Road

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/06/2024 12:26

We here, Useyourname, tend towards the (ahem) bold and innovative interpretation of the rules of the game of games, not least because we recognise that new players may not have mastered all 849 of them. The so-called live lines collective are too prissy by far, so in defiance of them I present

British Museum

HazelBite · 19/06/2024 07:06

Very complex play going on here, I am a tad unsure how to proceed without causing a Metropolitan backup so tentatively I'm going for Barbican

MarkWithaC · 19/06/2024 08:37

Things have gone quite wild since I was last here!
I had a good friend in the Live Lines Collective. I say 'had' as, sadly, after many years of rubbing along we finally had to admit that when it came to the interpretation of Vasquez in regard to the Willesden problem, we were just not going to find any common ground.

Having said that, personally I tend to cleave to the basic principles of the LLC. So here I'm going to ignore the Mark Lane possibility and make a straightforward Hunter's (+90-deg angle) to Snaresbrook.

The east end of the Central line. Thank goodness for the walking interchange and London Overground rules to get out of a quandary.

Barking.

MarkWithaC · 21/06/2024 10:19

That move means that the H&C can be considered null, which means (I think and hope) that I can finally try the move the old Duchess used to talk about but which I've never found a way into before...

A Grabb's Vortex to Finsbury Park.

OP posts:
Useyourname · 21/06/2024 10:44

Ooooooooooh Finsbury Park and we have the second station I've run at speed through

It gives me a linear triplehop to Caledonian Road

Itisallgoingtobeok · 21/06/2024 15:17

It's Friday afternoon and I am counting down to my weekly G&T... so I'm going to take a Smith's corner lateral to Kew Gardens.

MarkWithaC · 21/06/2024 17:56

A simple but satisfying Toussaint to East Acton.

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 21/06/2024 18:56

Another simple move to North Acton

Itisallgoingtobeok · 21/06/2024 20:08

I've had my G&T, just the one (quadruple) and so shall make a daring dash to Waterloo East.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/06/2024 20:39

Penge West. No need to explain why.
