A pre-festivities sharpener of Mornington Crescent?

Unfortunately I was absent for the thrilling climax to the game yesterday, and offer belated congratulations to LlynTegid. It's not often you see that move deployed with such laser-like accuracy.
A last hurrah before we all disperse for our traditional mid-winter break? (I'm for the Canaries this year with the curate and his new-ish special friend, a dear young man).
I'll start us off with a good invigorating Hudson's Cast: Goodge Street.

That very long meeting wouldn’t be the triennial conference: sub-committee D (rules and infringements), would it? I heard it was happening today, but couldn’t get an Uber - they said that, after the last one was broken up by the police and the fire brigade, the event was put on their no go list.

Now one of my favourite moves. A lateral shunt to

Wembley Central

Duck, the same thing has been said about the chief landscaper over at the Manor...

I'm trying out a move inspired by but not cleaving 100% to Hatcham's Rule:
Colliers Wood

I didn't have the nerve to attend if I am honest.

I'm going to try a safe left hand round approach to Greenford.

HazelBite · 06/06/2024 06:38

That move brings me very timely, to Harrow on the Hill

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/06/2024 19:34

Well, the sun is over the yardarm somewhere, so the colonel and I are enjoying a schooner of crème de menthe and contemplating the progress of the game. I fancy a complex Pendleton to

Balham

DuckonaBike · 06/06/2024 19:38

Indeed it has, Mark. I did wonder if you would pick up on it.

The sun is certainly over the yardarm where I am, so I’m making a corner pass to Pimlico

LlynTegid · 07/06/2024 06:59

The sun has come out, a rare sight recently.

A move to Stockwell.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/06/2024 10:53

Bingo!

Clapham North

HazelBite · 07/06/2024 10:57

Hmm, I think a transverse Lutz is called for here so I'm going to Queensway

MarkWithaC · 07/06/2024 14:48

I say.
If I play a third-back I can say

MORNINGTON CRESCENT!

I know there was a contretemps about that at, was it Leamington Spa winter gathering? but in this case the DLR is wild, which negates the Storriford problem.

Blimey @MarkWithaC - that was slick! I am in awe.

Beautiful Markc I always forget DLR is wild in reverse. I shall just have to continue to learn from your gameplay

Very kind. It's only really at the forefront of my mind because I was thinking about Storriford in connection with the new Elizabeth line. It raises some very fascinating, if thorny, issues. I hope the summer conference will feature some discussion on the subject. One does hear things on the grapevine that turn out to have been wishful thinking, but there is a murmur going round that the retired Commander will be talking about it, and she has been very illuminating on similar issues in the past.
Roll on summer conference!

Very impressive, Mark, not for the first time. Your play is an education.

Would you like the honour of beginning the next game?

MarkWithaC · 07/06/2024 19:35

Thank you, Duck. I am very much an admirer of yours too.

I’ll launch the next one with a Timed Quadrant to Oval. A classic move, one I am fond of even though it is not currently au courant.

LlynTegid · 08/06/2024 09:16

Starting outside zone 1. Hope that bodes well. Congratulations @MarkWithaC

Old Street

MarkWithaC · 10/06/2024 12:31

Thank you, Llyn, and fear not about the opening move; it's well supported by Dickie's Theorem.

A demi-tread to Stepney Green.

OP posts:
HazelBite · 10/06/2024 16:03

Talking of "Greens" I think the best move is to take a sideways Hudson to Bounds Green

Useyourname · 10/06/2024 16:54

I'm going to be also inspired by the greens play, but via a different interpretation and play a Carringtons pass ... What a fabulous player she was, such a pioneer and really as one of the first female players such an inspiration. If I have my history right, much of the 1863 convention was centred around updating the uniforms and dress code to enable female participation in a suitably decorous ensemble - after the protest the four pioneers had made the previous year hardly surprising. They must have been jolly cold. But I digress

Bromley -by -Bow

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/06/2024 17:20

Hmm. Some, let us say, dubious tactics recently. Not quite comme il faut, as the Duchesse used to say, but in memory of those four doughty but slightly frostbitten pioneers and their three indefatigable amanuenses I shall advance us to

Seven Sisters

MarkWithaC · 10/06/2024 17:48

Useyourname, some of the histories also mention a vigorous discussion about convention access and permits, due to the part the then gamekeeper of Hackington Lodge nearby played in facilitating the protest. He was certainly very keen to assist those ladies. The current gamekeeper seems to have rather decided to keep his memory alive, if you speak to the barkeep at Valley Bottom Hotel about him anyway.

But back to the game! Good move, Maud. And it allows me to discard my rather tricky Central Line joker and play a Fold to Sloane Square.

HazelBite · 11/06/2024 09:06

All I can counter with is Great Portland Street pretty obvious really!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/06/2024 14:26

You should give yourself more credit, HazelBite. That’s a superlatively subtle move. My best hope now is

Euston Square

DuckonaBike · 11/06/2024 20:24

Very nice, Maud. I’m taking a tangential to Ladbroke Grove

LlynTegid · 12/06/2024 19:11

I move assisted en route via the walking interchange rule to North Acton
