A pre-festivities sharpener of Mornington Crescent?

Unfortunately I was absent for the thrilling climax to the game yesterday, and offer belated congratulations to LlynTegid. It's not often you see that move deployed with such laser-like accuracy.
A last hurrah before we all disperse for our traditional mid-winter break? (I'm for the Canaries this year with the curate and his new-ish special friend, a dear young man).
I'll start us off with a good invigorating Hudson's Cast: Goodge Street.

I'm staying on the Victoria Line and very cautiously going to Finsbury Park (I'm trying to concentrate here and not be distracted by Mark's reminiscences)

LlynTegid · 13/02/2024 07:10

The interchange and London Overground rules to the rescue, getting us to Barking.

MarkWithaC · 13/02/2024 10:04

Were you there, Hazel? I know the semi-finals haven't been held in a Nordic country since, which is rather a pity in my opinion given the quality of the men I mean the furniture and the social policy.

Some memories are best not shared.

Wood Lane

MarkWithaC · 13/02/2024 16:13

Unusually coy of you, Maud...

Excellent move there. I had hoped to get to try out a pixelated back, but will have to settle for a simple Fingel to Theydon Bois.

Better part of valour, and all that. You know how it is.

Bow Church

MarkWithaC · 14/02/2024 08:17

Indeed.

A tip-over to Kilburn Park. An old stomping ground of mine.

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 14/02/2024 09:05

Mine too, Mark. I find the many hostelries are fairly broad minded.

St John’s Wood

(I still chuckle at the recollection of Mrs Caroline Arbuthnot of Chorleywood, a keen amateur player for several decades, who always insisted on pronouncing it Sinjun’s Wood. It caused all sorts of confusion).

MarkWithaC · 14/02/2024 10:05

There is nothing quite like a Kilburn hostelry.
I never had the pleasure of Mrs Arbuthnot's company, but that does make me think of how the choirmaster insists on saying Ruislip.

LlynTegid · 14/02/2024 19:41

I agree about Kilburn and the pleasures one can have in licensed establishments in the area.

Upney.

HazelBite · 15/02/2024 08:20

Hmm, I think I'm going to do a Goldings reverse (to avoid Nidd) so the best option is Grange Hill

MarkWithaC · 15/02/2024 08:54

OK, now, it's possible I am just a little overexcited (I've received my invitation to the Admiral's Easter drinks; I had been worried I was still persona non grata after last time, if anyone was there/heard about the visiting carpenter and that bottle of Noilly Prat)
BUT
If I deploy my remaining Archer's Tumble, I'm pretty sure I can say
MORNINGTON CRESCENT

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/02/2024 18:00

Sadly not. Archer’s Tumble is prohibited until April (and even that depends on a reading of the Consolidated and Amalgamated Compendium of the Rules of MC which is so flexible it recalls the Admiral’s antics on the squash court at the Basingstoke qualifiers). So on we go:

Euston Square

MarkWithaC · 15/02/2024 18:52

I had thought there was a leap year loophole allowing for this (in the Collected Ephemera, admittedly an extensive and dense tome and one that I have fallen asleep over more than I have absorbed its wisdom).
But I graciously concede.
And speaking of his flexibility, if you haven't seen the Admiral's little trick with his left foot, a punnet of plums and his neighbour's dog, do ask him when next you're over for cocktails.

Lambeth North

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 15/02/2024 19:51

Bad luck Mark. The Collected Ephemera is a notoriously problematic source.

And as it happens I have seen the Admiral’s little trick and I was shocked. Please, do not encourage him to make a habit of it.

Vauxhall

LlynTegid · 15/02/2024 21:00

Stockwell.

Agreeing about the prohibition of Archer's Tumble at this time of year. As the Colonel would agree.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/02/2024 21:53

Ah, the Colonel. He’s been rather subdued of late. Things became a little (shall we say) tense at the Dowager Duchess’s at home, when he overdid it on the absinthe and had to be sent home in an Uber. Not quite comme it faut.

Earls Court

MarkWithaC · 16/02/2024 08:25

Duck, unfortunately the Admiral needs no encouragement, in matters of his tricks or in any other sphere. Just ask the grocer's assistant driver (for starters).

Bethnal Green (with a downshift from the Hammersmith and City).

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 16/02/2024 12:45

Interesting route to get to Bethnal Green.

Not sure when we can replace the London Overground rule with six new rules, so will just move back to Bank.

MarkWithaC · 16/02/2024 16:42

Yes, obviously discussion and machinations about the Overground have been ongoing for a while, but I'm not sure when everything will be safely ratified.

I don't know how much anyone else has followed developments, but I did attend one early conclave. I'd have to dig out my notes to refresh my memory (the local hotel bar was gloriously stocked), but a fascinating ten minutes on the possible application of the Deptford Right Angle has stuck in my mind.

For now, though, I'll restrict myself to the familiar climes of Penge (using a tertiary seventh).

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 16/02/2024 21:21

Very nice, Mark. I’m going to up the ante here with Bromley-by-Bow

LlynTegid · 17/02/2024 06:51

Conclave? What is this, are we about to have a schism? Will there be two versions of the game of games, will I be ostracised for being true to the current version or what may be called the original one?

East Ham

HazelBite · 17/02/2024 16:13

Certainly not by me @LlynTegid I appreciate the game of games in its purest form. Bearing that in mind I'm pulling it back and am going toEmbankment*

HazelBite · 17/02/2024 16:17

Gosh the effort and concentration I had to expend on that move overtook my practical side and my typing in "bold" went all awry.
I think I need to go and relax in a dark room and sip on some sweet tea.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/02/2024 19:23

Never mind the sweet tea. Have one of the Dowager Duchess’s famed pick-me-ups. They may be illegal in 57 countries, but they certainly put a spring in your step.
