He's good looking, financially comfortable, works full time, funny, fit and healthy

But it just seems such a huge age gap

I’m 43 and FIL is 60 - he’s super fit (6 pack) funny, super nice guy but god no ! Wayyy too much of an age gap ! I’m 10yrs older than my DP and I think that’s bad enough

SheIsStuck23 · 11/12/2023 22:59

I’m 40 and the thought of dating a 62 year old is absolutely horrifying!

Blink1880 · 11/12/2023 23:02

My instinct is no - but isn’t Brad Pitt about 60? 🤣

Greezynogreasy · 11/12/2023 23:06

If he still had his hair, maybe, but baldness puts me off

Showmethemoneyyy · 11/12/2023 23:08

Abso-flipping-lutely not.

CornishGem1975 · 11/12/2023 23:10

Nope. I am mid 40s and my ex was 7 years older and that age gap was apparent enough as we got older.

BlondeFool · 11/12/2023 23:11

Nope. It's the same age gap as my dad

Palindrone · 11/12/2023 23:11

I'm 45 and there's absolutely no way I would date a 62-year-old man. The man you describe could have been my dad at 62. By 65 he had full-blown dementia.

Passingthethyme · 11/12/2023 23:14

Generally no, but maybe if I really, really liked him and if he was very fit and healthy. I know plenty of people in their 60s, 70s and even 80s going strong when others in their 50s seem 75! I think it really depends on the person

Crikeyalmighty · 11/12/2023 23:15

I'm 62 this week and this thread is bloody depressing!! All my mates are 39 to 44 and I hope they don't see me as you seem to see guys of that age -

assessedorregreased · 11/12/2023 23:15

Definitely!

hihihihihihihihihihi · 11/12/2023 23:17

No. My mum had a similar gap with her second husband and ended up nursing him when he died. She did everything including personal care. They got together when she was 40 and he was 62. They were together 20 years.

Bluelightbaby · 11/12/2023 23:34

But they are your friends, dating/relationships with that big an age gap are very different

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 11/12/2023 23:40

I have a friend who is in her early 60s and her husband is in his 80s. They seem to be very happy and she doesn't do much "caring" for him, and is still working. People can't help who they fall in love with.

Ultimately OP it's up to you and how you feel about it.

Nepmarthiturn · 11/12/2023 23:46

Uuuugh, yuk. No. He will be 70 when you're still in your 40s! Grim.

Would you date someone who is 20? That's the equivalent.

Gross.

QueenBitch666 · 11/12/2023 23:50

If you're attracted to him why not. However as I'm not attracted to older men it's a huge no from me

There's a big difference between being friends with people decades older than you (normal and very enriching) and having a relationship with them (gross).

FourteenTog · 11/12/2023 23:56

Isn't there a kind of sliding scale? Dating people in your 40s when you're in your 60s seems fine to me. I'd have dated 24-40 when I was 25, but as I'm now older than 25, I can see my way to dating with more of a gap in years (younger or older) not feeling like a gap. If I were looking, which luckily I'm not.

RobinGet · 11/12/2023 23:57

I would date someone of that age if I was 41 and I found them attractive, interesting and funny. Dating them doesn’t mean you’re shackled to them forever.

PermanentTemporary · 11/12/2023 23:57

I adore my dp who is 57, but then I'm 54. For me it's theoretically too big a gap, but I'd try anything once. For a fling, anyway. [Nostalgic thoughts of my 27 year old fling at my age 49]

@Crikeyalmighty do you find yourself dating lots of 83 year old women, or listing after them (Helen Mirren doesn't count)? It's a big gap.

PermanentTemporary · 11/12/2023 23:58

Apologies to Helen Mirren who is only 78.

mantyzer · 11/12/2023 23:58

Potentially as a casual thing. But not as a serious relationship. You would be certain to be a younger widow.

DragonFly98 · 12/12/2023 00:02

Absolutely not that's a bigger age gap than myself and dd1.

OkayScooby · 12/12/2023 00:03

Grim.

Deathbyfluffy · 12/12/2023 00:03

MondayIgotNothingToDo · 11/12/2023 12:59

He's too old. He should date women 58+

He is too old, but to say only 4 years younger is acceptable is a bit silly.
