As someone who has lived and travelled around Asia and has Asian friends in the UK I can confirm that rice cookers are used by most families in Asia unless they now prefer to use a Microwave rice cooker

No way would they Fanny about with a pan of water on a stove

The rice cooker keeps your rice at a constant temp once cooked so that family members can help themselves through the meal etc

Nothing wrong with using a pan but not if you're eating rice for practically every meal

Like having a kettle or toaster I suppose

Mirrormeback · 20/12/2023 04:08

By Asian I'm not referring to Indian in this case because I haven't lived there so Chinese and Japanese and Thai mainly

I can see now how these bunch fight occur

You have to cover every comment

Let's just say if you're a big rice eating household rice cookers are great

I really want to try vinyl nails now

My Dehumidifier (Meaco 12L) has been absolute godsend this year

Mirrormeback · 20/12/2023 04:13

And I love my steamer for ironing clothes

And a basic clothes rail to stop me using the 'Chairobe' made a massive difference
It's from Argos & not too wide so fits nicely in its space of 85cm

It looks like fun but may not get past the elf (on the shelf) and safety in our house.

Have tried the nail wraps (because of this thread!) and can confirm they are excellent (holy grail nail), my only question is how on earth do you get them off?
I’ve got the remover, have painted it on three times which has removed the majority, but still have a sticky residue on them. Any tips?

Ah a fellow lily ! if not by birth by geography

TheGhostOfTheOpera · 20/12/2023 11:47

@Mirrormeback ds is house-sharing with someone from Japan. The guy brought his rice cooker with him 😁
ds comment is that rice is much nicer cooked like this and that he can now understand why you’d be happy to eat it just in its own.
We now also have lectures on how to cook rice the right way. And its not a pan and loads of water, boiled until it tastes right
I can see ds buying a rice cooker when he is moving out 😂

I spotted your name too and did a double take just to confirm.

Maighnuad · 20/12/2023 16:38

So I should not talk about my neighbours :-)

Anyone know where I can get one not online? This would be perfect for DP Xmas but too late to get it shipped!

Amazon?

GymPanda · 21/12/2023 23:15

ExDH bought me a rice cooker many years ago for Christmas. I was cross. Until I used it! Game changer. Used 3-4 times per week now, and DH is now ex and moved out and bought his own!

Note - good for doing a mix of grains (bulgur, quinoa, pearl barley, red rice) for a delicious Asian cold salad.

Just wanted to say what a great thread this is, and to thank @NannyGythaOgg for the mention of vinyl nail wraps.

Two weeks ago I didn't even know they existed - I am now sporting some beautiful winter-themed wraps, I didn't think they would be here in time for Christmas (ordered from Lily and Fox) but they arrived yesterday.

I'm still considering some of the other things talked about on here, but for £1.99 these are probably one of my best buys this year!

Wow root powder ( for hair ).
Brilliant stuff for my greying temples.

Snozzlemaid · 24/12/2023 23:01

Another one here sporting Christmas nails thanks to the nail wrap suggestions. Dd is converted also.

Oh, I must have missed that post! What was it?! I could do with some!

chimichangaz · 25/12/2023 13:33

I am also sporting nail wraps for Christmas!!

ChiaraRimini · 25/12/2023 13:57

K18 hair mask. It is a wonder product for bleached or heat-damaged hair. It is ludicrously expensive but just got a bottle for Xmas from DM.

LadyEloise1 · 25/12/2023 14:25

It's ColorWow Root cover up @Callipygion and comes in various shades.
It's expensive but a little goes a long way.
I only use it at my temples so I don't know what it is like for the parting on top of your head.

Callipygion · 25/12/2023 17:34

Thank you @LadyEloise1 I'll have a look.
