Interested to know about everything be it luxury or mundane
I was late to the game but now use my air fryer daily. I also love my earbuds.

I love my rice cooker. Switch it on and leave it to do its thing. Come back when you need to serve up the rice. Perfect fluffy rice every time with no messing about checking on it every few minutes.

Which rice cooker do you have please?

Mirabai · 19/12/2023 10:28

I have an amazing rice cooker called a saucepan. I put the rice on and 20 mins later I come back and voilà it’s cooked.

BigBouncyBaubles · 19/12/2023 10:31

Why are some people so niggled by rice cookers? No one's going to force you to buy one.

Mirabai · 19/12/2023 10:33

Indeed they are not, as they’re a complete waste of money and space.

I don't really eat rice but I am now keen on buying one! 😂

Can you not go be boring somewhere else?

Silk duvet. I had a run ins with a microfibre ‘soft as down’ and a real down which should both be called ‘sweaty as fuck’ and gave up a silk one.

Mini heater that plugs into a wall socket - about the size of a large hand - ace.

Featherweight upright hoover for the times I can’t be bothered to get out the Miele cat and dog.

Ha. Arsey about other people buying rice cookers as apparently they're a waste of space but yet she's so lazy she has to have two hoovers.

TomeTome · 19/12/2023 10:53

Honestly if you are cooking your rice for 20 mins (it takes 12 in a pan), you probably don’t need a rice cooker because it won’t produce anything like over boiled rice.

You’re so defensive about rice cooking that you’ve searched the thread looking for something to attack? 😂

I don’t care what other people do I’m saying I’m not buying one.

As it goes I have an AI condition that affects joints & connective tissue and I find the Miele really heavy to use. My new one is a 2 in 1 handheld and upright vaccum. HTH.

Yes. I was intrigued to see what very important and not at all frivolous purchases you had waxed lyrical about when you were being such a pain about things that other people enjoy.

You enjoy your hoovers and let other people enjoy their rice cookers. It’s pretty simple!

HTH

From where I’m standing you’re the one being the pain and aggressive to boot. Taking online posts way too seriously.

In what way am I preventing other people enjoying their rice cookers?

Are you seriously implying that half of Asia doesn’t know how to cook rice?

Er who'se niggled? Just trying to figure out advantages/if need. From what have read so far useful maybe if need rice over an extended period for several people/different sittings.

Mm, ta for reply. But i cook and eat. No ambitions to feed multitudes.

I read this post this morning and knew this was going to kick off 😁

Rice Cooker Wars. So Mumsnet!

E. Asia use them because they eat rice all the time, so the rice is ready.

MN recommends rice cookers because rice cooking is held to be hard.

Cooking rice isn’t hard but rice from a rice cooker is just nicer. I don’t have one but I sometimes use the rice function on my instant pot and it’s always worth it.

And there are probably plenty of MNers who do eat rice all the time. Where I live (in England) people buy rice by the sackful.

I eat rice all the time as I’m part Asian. Not that many British people I have met eat rice as much as Asians - potatoes and pasta tend more popular.

I think an Instant Pot is a better investment because it’s multifunctional - I use mine for many different things (except rice) 😂

OLDERME · 19/12/2023 14:09

Best buy for me was a pair of Skechers. The back is built up so that I don't have to bend down to get them on. Good broad fitting shoes that act like slip-ons.

Stumpedasatree · 19/12/2023 16:33

Rice is my preferred carb. I have an instant pot but it is only ok on the Rice setting / function if I use 1 cup rice 1 cup water. Am i doing it right? Do I need a rice cooker too, and if so what is the best one to get?!

I use a small modest pan if cooking for one - double amount of water to rice. Rinse rice, cook on low gas, When all water gone it's ready - this water can be 100ml or 150ml depending on rice amount. Works just perfectly with brown rice and takes way less than recommended 25 minutes. With white rice can get sticking.

This one @Dustnbones . It is great for making soup and risotto as well. It did take a couple of goes to get the rice to water ratio right, but now I can do it by eye and I get really fluffy rice.

I am now proudly using smart plugs for my new electric blanket under my new mattress topper. All thanks to this thread!

@Bellavida99
A few pages ago a couple of posters mentioned a stove top toastie maker. Just wondered what brand they were?
