Something really odd happened this morning

I did the bins last night as they're collected 7am today, woke up very early so decided to watch a movie on the sofa and there was a thud just after 5am so I tensed as someone on the run gave this address so we've had the police around a few times.

But the weird thing is that our rubbish has disappeared. I've double checked, it's definitely gone and everyone else's is still out.

It's rented so perhaps landlord picked it up? There was no need though, removal truck will be around shortly

The landlord isn't going to come round and take your bin! It sounds like someone has stolen your wheelie bin.

blackfluffycat · 08/12/2023 06:41

People usually nick them once emptied 😂 could a car or bike have knocked it over and moved it out of view?

No we just use rubbish bags as no front garden. I'll phone landlord after 9am but just seems strange? I went to the shop at 6am when it opened and noticed then

If someone on the run (!!!) is using your address I'd be worried they'd stolen your rubbish in the hope of finding a letter or something with more info for identity theft.

EVHead · 08/12/2023 06:46

Someone looking for something e.g., mail with personal information on it?

Wehavealaughdontwe · 08/12/2023 06:46

Have the binmen not put your rubbish into another wheelie bin ready for collecting? Hence the thud, the sound of the wheelie bin banging shut?

This. A neighbour may have put their bin out and put your rubbish in theirs.

WillowTit · 08/12/2023 06:47

have a look later, when its light
do you have your number on your bin?

oh just read you dont have a bin

someone is doing a tidy up, probably see a bin lorry coming soon.

Agree this was my first thought too. Why would you think it was the landlord taking bags of rubbish at 5am?

I would be very concerned that someone was looking for personal information on you. Why else would your rubbish be removed in the middle of the night?

No I would have heard the lorry. On our side of the street we just leave out black bin bags. Sorry, should have made that clear in original message.

Actually I'll WhatsApp landlord but he's going to think I'm nuts if it wasn't him

If you don’t have wheelie bins then what are you presuming was the cause of the thud?

blackfluffycat · 08/12/2023 06:56

What was the noise you heard if you don't have a bin?

blackfluffycat · 08/12/2023 06:56

Cross posted

I know it's early, but I honestly can't think of any reason why you would think it's the landlord Confused

Like other posters I would be worried about identity theft.

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 08/12/2023 06:58

I want to hear more about the person on the run.

What are they wanted for?

Why use your address?

Do you know them?

Well it must have been someone taking the rubbish bags. I just heard a thud outside the house approx 5am so startled a bit but went to the shop early so noticed then. Everyone else's rubbish bags appear to be still there

Why would rubbish bags make a thud? Did you hear a car or something that they would have loaded the bags into?

Tonight1 · 08/12/2023 07:09

It's OK, I could hear the removal truck just now so went out to speak to them and it was them, not sure why they started so early

So a bin lorry came and took just your bin bags, leaving everyone elses on the street? Confused

So the bin men can around at 5am and removed only your bin bags? That sounds incredibly unlikely? Did you ask why only yours has been removed.

Also where the fluff do you live that the bin men start work before 5am, I thought at that hour they were restricted to city centers.

Tonight1 · 08/12/2023 07:13

At 5am, yes. The street's dead quiet until 7.30am so I would have heard a vehicle. Not sure why ours went first

It's fine, when I heard the rubbish truck just now I went out to ask them and they said they did take our bags first. Not sure why.

YourNameGoesHere · 08/12/2023 07:18

This makes absolutely no sense, why would they just take your bags and why would they come at 5am only to return at 7am?

You also seem incredibly nonchalant about the whole thing to be honest.

I'm surprised you didn't ask. It seems very odd for them to come and collect a few bags, leave the rest of the street and then return just an hour or so later to collect the rest.
