Something really odd happened this morning

I did the bins last night as they're collected 7am today, woke up very early so decided to watch a movie on the sofa and there was a thud just after 5am so I tensed as someone on the run gave this address so we've had the police around a few times.

But the weird thing is that our rubbish has disappeared. I've double checked, it's definitely gone and everyone else's is still out.

It's rented so perhaps landlord picked it up? There was no need though, removal truck will be around shortly

I'm surprised you didn't ask. It seems very odd for them to come and collect a few bags, leave the rest of the street and then return just an hour or so later to collect the rest.

Maybe they realised there was an issue with the lorry if OP's were the first of the day.

busnumbernine · 08/12/2023 07:24

Our bin-men come round on foot and gather the bin bags into piles along the street, e.g. making 15 biggish piles rather than 45 smaller ones.

The bin lorry follows later (anything from 30 mins to 3 hrs) and the biggish piles get chucked on the lorry then.

You probably heard the initial gathering and saw the biggish piles, your rubbish had been moved into one of those.

If someone on the run (!!!) is using your address I'd be worried they'd stolen your rubbish in the hope of finding a letter or something with more info for identity theft.

This was exactly my thought.
Always best to shred or rip up any letters so they can't be used for potential ID.

Edit: I see it was the bin men after all...That's a relief.

Tonight1 · 08/12/2023 07:29

I shouldn't have worried, I'm jumpy at present with the police round several times looking for this criminal and testing all the rooms!

Where I live a couple of guys arrive very early, collect the bags and pile them up in one or two places in the road then anything up to 3 -4 hours later the main truck arrives and all the bags are collected. It’d be so much simpler if we could just have wheelie bins.

WillowTit · 08/12/2023 07:35

if you dont have bins dont the foxes and crows get into the bags?

Haven't had that so far, luckily

This makes absolutely no sense, why would they just take your bags and why would they come at 5am only to return at 7am?

You also seem incredibly nonchalant about the whole thing to be honest.

It’s such a non-event that I’d be surprised if anyone was anything other than nonchalant!

MumblesParty · 08/12/2023 07:58

I honestly thought everywhere had wheelie bins these days

Tonight1 · 08/12/2023 08:01

It was helpful upthread when someone explained they sometimes gather up bags really early before rubbish truck comes around at 7am.

Sorry, non event!

Which would make sense if they had actually done that but they only moved yours which seems pointless.

Although as I said I'm surprised they start at 5am unless you're in the city center as I thought it was half 6 at the earliest in residential areas.

Littlelucas · 08/12/2023 08:05

Sod the binbags - tell us more about this crim on the run!

The police have been and tested all the rooms? Do you mean for dna or something else? Is it a murder investigation? No wonder you’re on edge!

Oddest thing dver I agree. I’m assuming they took everyone’s bags and the op panicked. No way they’d do one set of bags at 5 and then come back and do everyone else’s. And they clearly were not gathering anything if everyone else’s still there.

Then the police took it. If the police are involved with your address then they could have taken it to look for evidence or even DNA. That's how they got Bryan Kohberger.

The binmen randomly taking your rubbish and nobody else's and then coming back two hours later makes no sense.

Assaulted his girlfriend, has been banned from a town and as a condition of bail until trial he gave this address as his residence. As he doesn't live here, straight back to jail if they catch him.

What I'm curious about is how on earth you get banned from a town!

A neighbour's relative gets parking tickets in our street and nonchalantly tosses them to the kerb. Apparently it's alright because he has his mail sent to an HMO in a town fifty miles away, where a friend screens it.
There is clearly a whole other world that those of us paying our bills and following the rules have no clue about.

Another odd post from you @Tonight1

Are you OK?

I know, what would be the point taking one and then 2hrs later the rest. Don't know why OP is so nonchalant about it🤔

LittleGreenDragons · 08/12/2023 08:52

What a weird thread. They wouldn't have moved just your bags, it's not how they work Confused

I'm OK thanks, just really stressed out about several things and drinking too much (which is my own fault).

I have good support from my gp surgery.

Not to freak you out but as a student in a shared flat with all girls we had a neighbour, a single older man who used to take our rubbish to go through looking for god knows what. We ended up reporting him to the police and he had bags of our rubbish in his house, very odd.

I was just going to say this.

We have wheelie bins, but the bin lads often drag them all to one place for easier emptying if there are lots of cars parked on the road.

We're in a cul-de-sac so manoeuvring the "Vulture" (they name their wagons) is awkward at the best of times.

Edit to change "cup-de-sac" to "cul-de-sac". (early morning typing skills)

Exactly what I was going to say. A chap comes ahead of the truck and piles all the bags together x
