Just for fun. Worst Christmas songs

Hey all,

Just a bit of fun but what are your worst christmas songs that make you turn the radio off?

Heres my top 3:

Paul McCartney - wonderful Christmas time.
Beach boys - little saint nick
The waitresses - christmas wrapping

The McCartney one is appalling but even that isn't as diabolical as the Lennon one. "Without any fear", fuck's sake. From the man who wrote Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

The Waitresses one is a steaming pile. So is any version of Santa Baby that isn't Eartha Kitt. It's supposed to be funny, stop trying to sound like you're about to orgasm.

I loved you, George, but there's a reason it's your song that got chosen as the one everyone has to try to avoid hearing for the game.

Baby It's Cold Outside is shit too. Couldn't care less about the dodgy lyrics, it's just innately shit.

As someone who worked in hospitality & retail for almost a decade : All of them. Even Fairytale, which is objectively a brilliant song, and Mariah, which is a wonderful homage to classic Phil Spector & Motown.

Worst of the worst? Cliff Richard, The Waitresses & The Pretenders. Utterly ghastly, all of them.

Oh god, how could I forget the pretenders. What a thoroughly depressing song. Cant stand the way she sings it either. Hideous track

I’m an atheist but find almost all secular Christmas songs awful and cringey, despite a soft spot for a couple of them (George Michael!).
Give me traditional carols with full on organ and descant or a crisp clear chamber choir singing music that makes me think of echoing cathedrals or midwinter frosty fields.

I grew up in a DV home so fairy tale of New York made me feel like not all homes are happy at Christmas. Also met Shane on many occasions as he drank in the same pub in nenagh Co tipp as I did

I hate the Pretenders one too. I know it's about loss, bereavement etc, but it's just a shit song.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year was totally ruined by that godawful advert that ran most of the year for a holiday company and that horrible kid (and his family) in it.

I truly hope it's not going to start running again in January ... 😡
