A mountain and forests. I'd love to live on a mountainside overlooking a forest.

NotFastButFurious · 01/12/2023 10:53

gosh reading all these wants makes me appreciate where I live and possibly understand why house prices are so high!
I don't understand the waitrose thing either @Pinkpinkpink15 I also have one down the road and other than popping for a couple of bits if i'm passing I never shop in it. It has some things you can't get elsewhere but for a weekly shop I find it really expensive and their car park is hideous.

AlltheFs · 01/12/2023 11:00

A village pub that is actually open, not run by twunts, family friendly and not £9m for a drink.

Ours is currently always shut and run by miserable bastards with no community spirit.

I’d also like a new bridleway.

Polos2 · 01/12/2023 11:02

A different supermarket, we only have Tescos and a Lidl and it’s a bit shit.

Mazuslongtoenail · 01/12/2023 11:03

A bus service.

Allthescreens · 01/12/2023 11:05

Would love a bakery.

This thread makes me realise how lucky we are. Live in a large village & have 2 Co-ops, Post Office within one of those, petrol station, pharmacy, charity shop, coffee shop, garden centre with coffee shop, estate agent, 3 hairdressers, fancy boutique, jewellers, undertakers, butcher. Fish & chip shop, 2 restaurants (1 Indian), 3 pubs. Plus library open 6 days per week, bowls club, sports & social club, 3 community centres & infant/junior schools. Large country park 15 minute walk away, 2 playgrounds. Bus every 15/20 minutes to small city 3 miles away, hourly bus to more rural village where there is a major Scout park, vet & gorgeous pub.

Echobelly · 01/12/2023 11:13

A nice gift shop

A few years ago I would have said a childrenswear store, but don't need that anymore!

Mynewnameis · 01/12/2023 11:17

I can mostly think of things I don't want (city location with lots of drug related crime, rubbish, dog shit, sea gulls eating rubbish and attacking me, speeding traffic and parking problems).

I'd love to have green space on my doorstep and a good high school kids can walk to.

AdoraBell · 01/12/2023 11:23

Snow capped mountains, shops, library, more animals like deer, red squirrels, the wild cat we spotted a few weeks ago, less moles and no rats.

WhatWindyWeather · 01/12/2023 15:18

I'm lucky to have all the following within 15 minutes walking distance (or would be if I could still walk) to all the following:

24 hour supermarket
ice rink
library
swimming pool
bowling alley
pubs
pizza hut
McDonalds
pharmacy
doctors
cinema
children's playgrounds
schools
dentists
country park
bus stops

If you're wondering where I live, it is one of those places that you often see mentioned on threads where people ask where in the UK they should live and people respond that they wouldn't touch with a bargepole. I think I'm lucky to live somewhere with all this on my doorstep.

funbags3 · 01/12/2023 15:22

A leisure centre.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 01/12/2023 15:40

A sushi restaurant. Our local one closed down a few months ago and I miss it SO much.

Apart from that, my local area has loads of lovely/useful stuff within a 15-min walk or a short bus ride. And, like @WhatWindyWeather, the mere mention of it is guaranteed to have MNers shrieking about what a shithole it is. I don't care, I love it here (apart from the lack of sushi).

Wherethewildthymeblows · 01/12/2023 15:43

A decent high street instead of countless charity shops, coffee outlets, nail bars and Turkish barbers.

elliejjtiny · 01/12/2023 15:48

A nice big outdoor play area in the village. Soft play in the nearest town, preferably with some nice extras like a sensory room and climbing wall.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 01/12/2023 15:56

A Korean restaurant

slavetothekittens · 01/12/2023 16:00

A local post office instead of a 30 minute hike to the one in the centre of the small town. ( we did have one but it closed down)
A bus service that wasn't just hourly and only ran 10-5.30 Mon-Sat.
An independent health shop that did chilled and frozen food.
An Aldi.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/12/2023 16:05

A coastline, beach, the sea .

RoseyLentil · 01/12/2023 16:11

Better public transport.
Footpath you can actually walk on so we can walk to the village (one way) and the bus stop (other way) without getting covered with wet or mud/nettled/having to walk in the road.
Speed limit reduced to 30. This will allow my elderly neighbours to get safety over the road to the bus stop and village.
My local councillor to actually get these things done. They have been on his urgent to do list since 2016. They were on his predecessor's urgent to do list since 1997. Three people have died outside my house and we've list count of the other no fatal accidents.

Persephone14 · 01/12/2023 16:14

A bus service that turns up at all. It’s currently hourly but is cancelled so often is unusable to get anywhere.

A swimming pool and/or a heated lido - I can dream!

Thatwouldbeme · 01/12/2023 16:16

A sea pool and a out door gym

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/12/2023 16:17

A good department store, preferably John Lewis.
Better weather!

Nibblynobbly · 01/12/2023 16:17

An active high street, updated parks and allotments.

GarlicMaybeNot · 01/12/2023 16:17

RampantIvy · 30/11/2023 23:14

Better public transport.

Here, too.

Verv · 01/12/2023 16:32

Traffic lights at the end of my street, which is a like 4 way junction and a mare to get out of as it comes out onto a main road.
Ive added stars to my ideal light positions 😄

what do you want in your current area that you dont already have?
SutWytTi · 01/12/2023 16:47

Ban on wood burners (linked to another thread).
