Waitrose.

Dontjudgeme101 · 01/12/2023 07:34

Decent shops not more coffee and second hand shops!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 01/12/2023 07:35

M& S food hall or Waitrose ( I am not in the UK), Or a cheese shop would be great too! And a beach bar, we have beaches and bars but I want a bar on the beach please.

Papillon23 · 01/12/2023 07:39

I'd really like a decent bakers a bit closer - I live in a town but it's 4.5 miles out of town to the nearest good one.

That's the one bit that bothers me on a regular basis.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 01/12/2023 07:47

A beach - where I live would be perfect if it was only on the coast!

MMMarmite · 01/12/2023 07:59

A complex of historic thermal baths, reasonably priced.

I went to Hungary last year and they know how to do things properly! I've been hankering for it ever since.😄

A youth centre / activity area / social evening hang out for young people to go to rather than hanging around outside Tescos in the cold.

Vinoveritass · 01/12/2023 08:10

A forest. We have nice countryside but not a very close by forest.
An m&s would be handy

derneu · 01/12/2023 08:46

A clothes shop that does cheap basics like Primark or H&M. Loads of clothes shops on the High Street but not much for kids and not cheap.

Spendonsend · 01/12/2023 08:47

A real bakers. Village hasnt been the same since it closed.

Mamoun · 01/12/2023 09:22

A nice cafe where one can have lunch.

ifonly4 · 01/12/2023 10:09

The sea or a river! Having said that, it ticks every other box we'd personally want - a large village with supermarkets, three Co-ops, library, best bus service the town nearby operates, choice of schools, lots of activities for children and adults, nice pubs, decent takeaways, pharmacy, selection of shops, charity shops, indian, cafes, right on the edge of countryside at the bottom of the peak of a well known hill range. Nearest town is three miles away and provides all the large stores you can think of, swimming pool and leisure centre are our side of town.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 01/12/2023 10:10

A bus service and a safe walking route.

elizabethdraper · 01/12/2023 10:12

My very immediate area a good bakery/coffee shop.

Yeah, I'd love a good bakery & a really nice cafe. There are a few cafes here, but they're very 'cafe' not 'nice cafe'. One in particular seems to do a good 'Full English' but that's not my thing.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 01/12/2023 10:19

A bank and or a post office.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2023 10:22

Swimming pool more locally and ice rink in town centre

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1

ill swap you the beach for my Waitrose (5minute walk), M&S food hall (10 min drive)

where abouts do you live?

I lived in NZ, 2 minute walk to the beach, wouldn't have wanted a bar there & Valencia & the bars/cafes/restaurants on the beach were great!!

I returned to the U.K. & don't have either.

Katharineblum · 01/12/2023 10:27

Not that we don’t have them but most are piss poor tbh. Decent shops, decent public transport, less homeless and beggars, libraries re-opened locally (7 shut during austerity), John Lewis and better M and S ( for a town of > 300,000 people our large one in town shut and we are stuck with a tiny one now), investment for young people like a cycle circuit or a central swimming pool. We are a large town outside Manchester and tend to get massively neglected as we aren’t a particularly desirable area.

Specialcovidname · 01/12/2023 10:27

Just a shop. Live in a residential area in a medium sized town but still a 10min drive or hour walk round trip to get a loaf of bread or pint of milk!

User0000009 · 01/12/2023 10:29

Peace and quiet in the summer

Pinkpinkpink15 · 01/12/2023 10:31

TroysMammy · 01/12/2023 07:31

Waitrose.

@TroysMammy

people often say Waitrose, I'm always a bit bemused. What is it about Waitrose that you/they like?

I live a 5 minute walk from one, pass it at least 3x a day on the school run (4th time go a different route). I use it due to convenience (parking is great). I guess it's a smaller/mid size one, but I'd use it in the same way regardless of which supermarket it was.

what do you think is so much better about it?

other than their fresh olive bread which IS bloody lovely, I just don't get it?!

Nochocolateuntilchristmas · 01/12/2023 10:34

A butcher or farm shop

squeekychicken · 01/12/2023 10:34

I live in a village 10 minutes from a big city. It has everything we need in the village (2 minutes walk). Several independent cafes, pizza restaurant, Indian, 2 pubs, wine bar, co-op, post office, chemist, several hair dressers, beauty salon, ice cream parlour. It's perfect.

Scampuss · 01/12/2023 10:37

Top of my list is a fish and chip shop with gluten free fish and chips 🙏🏼

A post office in town would be much appreciated too.
