This seems to be popping up everywhere. At first it was funny as it's suggesting nakedness. But now it's aggravating! It's so common now. Why?
Feel it's particularly bad at work. Please bare with me on this.

Oh no. Misspelt thread title. So sorry.

Bear with me should be scrapped in all spellings. Just nonsense.

That's true. It's so stupid.

Lol my local swimming pool emailed "bare with us while we (update our website/redo our changing rooms, I can't remember)"
I emailed them pointing out their mistake and as they're a swimming pool it was really unfortunate. They never replied ...

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/11/2023 20:57

I feel the same about brake/break. Your car has brakes. You break a vase,

I’ve also seen much more joining of words that should be separate, like aswell.

Catsmere · 29/11/2023 21:00

Or "alot" instead of "a lot".

There is no such word as alot. Allot, yes, which means something entirely different.

Devilsmommy · 29/11/2023 21:01

Mine at the moment is should of instead of should have. It's have😡

HamstersAreMyLife · 29/11/2023 21:02

Omg I always put bare....the shame! Bear with me always looks wrong

SethSaysNowt · 29/11/2023 21:03

However it’s spelled I either picture naked people of people with pet bears.

You have to live with it forever Grin

OTOH you sound like someone who may be a budding home bar enthusiast and that's nice Wine

Bare is always about naked.

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:09

Have to admit that I've often written as well as one word. Oh no!

OP posts:
Queucumber · 29/11/2023 21:10

When I hear ‘bear with me’ I think of someone plonking a huge bear into the arms of a startled person, so that they have their hands free to check their phone or look in their bag to get whatever’s needed.

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:11

Never written alot though. Ever! Bare is naked...!!

OP posts:
Catsmere · 29/11/2023 21:13

@Devilsmommy should of almost makes my skin crawl! Don't people know it's "should've", the contraction of "should have"? Haven't they ever seen it written?

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:13

What do you think about with bare with me?
I imagine a room full of naked people or the person who has used the phrase asking me to get naked!

Yes, whilst I am inwardly cringing for myself I suspect I have only ever written it down twice so it's not the big deal in life that it is in my head and I can at least feel smug I've never done any of the other examples on here 😆

Queucumber · 29/11/2023 21:16

I’m a fan of bears, not public nudity, so I’ll pass on that thanks!

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:17

Where I live I think should of is the accent. Interestingly this messaging app corrects it all nicely!

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:20

What does OTOH mean? Original Thread ?

OP posts:
Queucumber · 29/11/2023 21:21

On the other hand

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 21:21

Thanks!

OP posts:
Catsmere · 29/11/2023 21:23

I'm in Australia, so accents don't really play a part in it. I haven't heard anyone say it here in a long while, maybe even since school. I see it written on MN.

I never even think of bears when I read bear with me! Just bear as in forbearance. Bare with me makes me roll my eyes, same as people talking about their car's breaks.
