This seems to be popping up everywhere. At first it was funny as it's suggesting nakedness. But now it's aggravating! It's so common now. Why?
Feel it's particularly bad at work. Please bare with me on this.

Try hang on a tick instead

IStartWhereYouEnd · 29/11/2023 21:25

Oh no. Misspelt thread title. So sorry.

🤣 You see, unless you’re perfect, it’s best not to judge.

Shadowsindarkplaces · 29/11/2023 21:26

Bought and brought..I bought a bottle of wine and brought it with me today..not.. I brought a bottle of wine and brung it with me..arrrgghhh

LonelyAndLostToo · 29/11/2023 21:33

I was sat observing someone doing their job about a year ago and watched her write "super seeded" instead of "superseded". Didnt have the guts to correct her

What do you think about with bare with me?
I imagine a room full of naked people or the person who has used the phrase asking me to get naked!

I can’t bear it.

jazzhands84 · 29/11/2023 21:40

The head at my dd's school would frequently use bare with me and it just cemented my view of her.

noname846 · 29/11/2023 21:51

Catsmere · 29/11/2023 21:00

Or "alot" instead of "a lot".

There is no such word as alot. Allot, yes, which means something entirely different.

That one annoys me, along with "incase"! I'm surprised that these are so common, given that autocorrect is everywhere these days.

BeigeChair · 29/11/2023 22:10

I think I’m guilty of that one, what’s the origin of it?

SleepyRooster · 29/11/2023 22:11

Love a homophone

NannyGythaOgg · 29/11/2023 23:00

Quick check
As a woman do you
Bear a child?
or
Bare a child?

Catsmere · 29/11/2023 23:04

You bear the child first, baring it comes with bathing and nappy changes! 😄

Flyhigher · 29/11/2023 23:15

BARE is naked! Or the cupboard was bare.

Bear is to suffer or carry.

My best friend always sends me birthday cards with “thanks for being such a grate
friend”.
I love her dearly but I’ve told her the next time I get one I’m going to poke her with a stick. She’s dyslexic so loads of weird little things pop up 😁

GoingOffOnATangent · 29/11/2023 23:36

I wonder when instinctual replaced instinctive... Is it an American English import?

Lifeinlists · 29/11/2023 23:54

Bought and brought..I bought a bottle of wine and brought it with me today..not.. I brought a bottle of wine and brung it with me..arrrgghhh

Hang on, I can help you improve this.

"I brought a bottle of wine and I've took it with me"

Or even " I brought a bottle of wine and I brought it with me"

I know someone who very consistently does the former and never, ever says bought, but I'm very fond of her so would never even hint that it's not quite correct. I just rapidly translate!

marshmallowfinder · 30/11/2023 00:01

Yes, I always reply I'd rather keep my clothes on, thanks.

Breath and breathe being mixed up is so annoying. Breath rhymes with death, breathe rhymes with seethe. Two quite different words and not interchangeable.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 30/11/2023 00:23

My friend says 'we was' it makes me want to beat him with a bloodied limb!! He also uses a lot of words incorrectly.

i decided I either had to let the friendship go or learn to live with it, because there's no changing him!!

However, it makes me laugh that he pulls me up on certain words I say differently!! 😂😂

Catsmere · 30/11/2023 00:44

And let us not forget loose being used for lose! Drives me up the wall, and it's everywhere.

LauderSyme · 30/11/2023 00:58

I cannot help thinking "grizzly... polar... Pooh" when anyone says "Bear with me". Sometimes I even say it - but usually only after they've put me on hold 😊

hoobanoobie · 30/11/2023 01:01

Ah you fucked it from the off. Try again.

Bippitybobbityboing · 30/11/2023 01:06

Oh whilst we're having a little grizzle can I bring:

Rein it in / reign it in

Free rein/ free reign

To the party?

Which one do you think is right?

Catsmere · 30/11/2023 01:36

Both should be rein, because both refer to horses' reins, not rulers' reigns.

Edit because of bloody autosuggest being fuckwitted, as usual.

meatbaseddessert · 30/11/2023 01:40

My bug bares (joke)
Close the boarders!
Slammed on the breaks
Sneak peak.

Grrrraaaaaaaaggggghhh!

I bloody would have! 😂

Myself instead of me:
’If you need anything come and see Tom or myself’
It’s Me!
