Have you ever seen a Christmas tree on top of a car? In the UK?

This has been bothering me for a few weeks.
I have seen all sorts of Christmas bits that have a car with a Christmas tree on its roof. I have never seen this in real life in the UK. Have you?
Wrapping paper, jumpers, cushions, tree ornaments. Loads. But never an actual tree on a real car.
Why is this the fashion now? It's annoying me as much as Santa wearing a grey suit.

All the time from now till mid December. But we are surrounded by Christmas tree farms

Northsideoftheriver · 25/11/2023 19:41

I thought you meant decorative trees like in this pic.
I can't wait for these babies to catch on.

But no, I haven't seen any tied to people's cars like you see in American movies.

Yes. I've also put a Christmas tree on top of the car to bring it home. Live in the UK.

How do you transport your tree otherwise?

Mine used to go in the passenger seat of my mx 5 with the roof down!

I being mine home on a bicycle!

SecondUsername4me · 25/11/2023 19:57

We strap ours to the roof bars to bring it home from the shop, but it's in one of those meshes so probs just looks like a rolled up rug.

TroysMammy · 25/11/2023 19:58

Saw one on top of a van this afternoon. It was shorter than the van.

OnceUponATimeInChristmasTime · 25/11/2023 19:59

If you live near Tewkesbury, you'll seen one in the next couple of weeks. We live in the Black Country but ended up getting our tree from Tewkesbury last year as their local Smyths shop was the only one who had a toy I was tasked with getting. We got our tree from a lovely little
Farm and said we'd go back this year.

jay55 · 25/11/2023 19:59

It was normal in the 80s in the westcountry. Not seen it recently but I do live in London now.

InTheRainOnATrain · 25/11/2023 19:59

Yes! About 2 hours ago, on top of a Micra in central London 🤣

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 25/11/2023 20:01

Why on Earth would it annoy you? Goodness me some. people are really searching for something to moan about these days!
We hardly ever have snow for Christmas either... do you think that scenes should depict dark grey skies and rain??

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/11/2023 20:04

Dh once cycled to the tip with our tree on his back because he didn't want to fill the car with fallen needles. Putting it on top of the car would have been easier.

HardcoreLadyType · 25/11/2023 20:07

Yes. We live near a plant nursery which grows and sells their own trees. (I think they grow them on the IOW, but we are in outer London.)

Lots of people buy their tree and put it on the roof of their car to transport it.

(We have ours delivered, because we are too lazy.)

Lindyloomillion1 · 25/11/2023 20:07

Yes! All the time!

Princessbananahamock · 25/11/2023 20:08

Had mine tied to roof to take to recycling place heard a scrapping sound we did wonder what made the sound. Wasn’t until we stopped got out to see the tree vanished, funny thing is I didn’t see it slide of in any mirrors. We managed to find a place to double back and it was nowhere to be seen, weird.

EversoDisorganised · 25/11/2023 20:10

Yes, see them all the time here but usually netted. Earlier this week I saw a convertible mini with an enormous tree (not netted) wedged upright in the back.

Nonplusultra · 25/11/2023 20:13

Not in UK (Ire) and I haven’t - everywhere I know that sells trees has one of those tubes you throw them through to truss them up. They’re usually sticking out of car boots or being carried.

muchalover · 25/11/2023 20:16

Yep. A car driving away from a nursery last weekend. In its net bag.

EtiennePalmiere · 25/11/2023 20:24

Many, many times in my life but not in the UK I don't think, although I had noticed lots of Christmas baubles with the motif.
It's no good in the boot because it gets sap and needles all over surely? Also if sold in a net you don't know if it's the right shape and symmetrical Shock

Lizzieregina · 25/11/2023 20:26

I live in the US and will be seeing this non stop for the next few weeks!

always2tired · 25/11/2023 20:28

Yes, I saw 3 Christmas trees on top of a car today.

Lilywc · 25/11/2023 20:30

I’ve seen a few

SgtJuneAckland · 25/11/2023 20:32

Not until today! Coming out of Costco (UK)

CatamaranViper · 25/11/2023 20:37

I mean if you're buying a 6ft tree it's often canny wide as well and real trees make an awful mess with their needles.
How else can you transport it home?

alloalloallo · 25/11/2023 20:38

Yes. I see lots. I’ve also done it myself. I don’t have a cute, aesthetically pleasing car or a red pick up truck to tie it to though

We live near a farm where you can go and cut your own down. They don’t have a netting thing.

There’s also a fruit and veg place near me who also sell trees, but they net them for you once you’ve chosen one

Lilacdressinggown · 25/11/2023 20:39

Yes. Lots.
