Have you ever seen a Christmas tree on top of a car? In the UK?

This has been bothering me for a few weeks.
I have seen all sorts of Christmas bits that have a car with a Christmas tree on its roof. I have never seen this in real life in the UK. Have you?
Wrapping paper, jumpers, cushions, tree ornaments. Loads. But never an actual tree on a real car.
Why is this the fashion now? It's annoying me as much as Santa wearing a grey suit.

You might just not live near a place with a Christmas tree farm. Otherwise you would see lots of trees on top of cars in a few weeks time.

SM4713 · 25/11/2023 18:49

🤔Nope- don't think so. Only in America Christmas films!

DelurkingAJ · 25/11/2023 18:49

We used to do this to bring the tree home in the 90s…rope 7ft tree to the top of the car. There was the year we manage to rope the doors shut and I had to climb out of a car windows to extricate us.

Yes! Just this afternoon in fact.

GreenwichOrTwicks · 25/11/2023 18:50

Yes mine 😂

Flibbertygibbetty · 25/11/2023 18:51

Yes every year when we get our Christmas tree from the forest.

Mykittensmittens · 25/11/2023 18:51

We put our tree on our car, tied with bungee cords.

i assume it’s not a regularly visual occurrence as the trip from the farm to our house is 2 miles and not many minutes. if everyone was the same, it would be unlikely to be seen frequently.

guess it depends on where you are?

Grumpystripes · 25/11/2023 18:51

Yes. I've also put a Christmas tree on top of the car to bring it home. Live in the UK.

How do you transport your tree otherwise?

Ffsnotaconference · 25/11/2023 18:51

Yeah, but then I live a mile away from a Christmas tree farm. So we see it often.

in the back of trucks, on cars sticking out the car window.

If people are designing something around going and picking a Christmas tree up, it’s going to be easy to the car/truck with a tree on top. Fully visual.

Trying to show a car with a tree stuck in the boot to the back seat, wouldn’t be the same. With the tree on top it’s obviously a Christmas thing. Not just a car

shouldbesleepingnotscrolling · 25/11/2023 18:52

Yes we do! We go with parents and put the two trees on our roofbars to get them home.

Gloaminggnome · 25/11/2023 18:53

Yes every year?! How else do you get it home? Normally netted up on the roof bars of our estate, but one year loose and roped to the roof of my tiny red car so it looked just like the ornaments. Just less aesthetic on a Skoda 😂

TigerOnTour · 25/11/2023 18:54

We walk ours home. One year it snowed! V. Picturesque.

Polis · 25/11/2023 18:54

Yes, loads of times. Like a previous poster we live near a farm that sells Christmas trees.

Singleandproud · 25/11/2023 18:55

We used to do this when I was a child.
My car is a lot larger than the VW Golf my parents had, I can put the back and front passenger seat down and fit our tree inside the car.

caringcarer · 25/11/2023 18:57

I used to go to Xmas tree farm and collect my 🎄 on top of my car to get it home.

sunshineandshowers40 · 25/11/2023 18:58

Saw one today!

Caspianberg · 25/11/2023 18:59

Yes ours.
it’s probably a distance thing. We will buy our tree from local tree farm, it’s only a few km away. So we will buy and drive it straight home.

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2023 19:01

UK homes are smaller. You can get a 6ft tree IN the car. Much less faff.

Why bother with the roof?

Have done it in the past with a car full of people but this risks damage to the tree so best to avoid if possible.

GlitterBisscuits · 25/11/2023 19:01

Just me and @SM4713 then.

I have seen them sticking out of boots, although that was in a net. And would make a rubbish tree ornament

A tree in a net on a car roof is not as picturesque.

ThreeRingCircus · 25/11/2023 19:20

Never.

But I assumed it's because cars have gotten bigger than they were in the past so it's now easier to fit them inside the car with the seats flat.

Shivermetimbersmearty · 25/11/2023 19:23

Come to mention it, no…

a bit like people slipping on banana skins, or dogs stealing strings of sausages.

simonthedog · 25/11/2023 19:27

I always take my tree home on the roof rack. It would make a right old mess putting it inside the car.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/11/2023 19:33

That's how DDad always used to bring our tree home.

Witchbitch20 · 25/11/2023 19:34

Yes, this morning! First time ever and I was disappointed as it was to the side not in the middle. Not aesthetically pleasing at all.

Birdie8989 · 25/11/2023 19:35

I saw one this afternoon
