That woman is fantastic! I've just watched her half time show at the (American) football in Dallas on YouTube

77 in hot pants - she just looked and sounded incredible

I want to go and see her live now

OP posts:
LunaTheCat · 24/11/2023 06:24

She is amazing… as a performer but especially as a kind, gracious, thinking woman.

GwenGhost · 24/11/2023 06:33

If you want to love her even more look her literacy program for kids. She’s been funding books for underprivileged children for decades.

PictureFrameWindow · 24/11/2023 06:58

We get the books through my kid's school (deprived area) and every time one comes I tell my kid he's so lucky to have a gift from Dolly Parton! What a beautiful scheme- filling homes full of colourful stories about all kinds of children and families. I think she's a legend,

Craftycorvid · 24/11/2023 07:16

Agreed that Dolly is a goddess. She comes across as very ‘real’ and surprisingly sane considering a long career in the music industry.

SauceCat · 24/11/2023 07:27

I just searched that on YouTube. Thank you OP it's made my morning. What an amazing woman!

itsmeafterall · 24/11/2023 07:28

Love her.

CyberCritical · 24/11/2023 07:31

One of my very favourite people ever, I've always loved her music but she's one of those people where the more you learn about her the more wonderful you see she is.

It's funny because on the surface she's the exact opposite of the kind of person who would have been sainted a couple of hundred years ago, but the scale of her philanthropy and the way she treats people would put her on the list of people who deserve it.

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 07:46

@LunaTheCat

Yup. Absolutely. I don't even like country music but I love Dolly!!!!!

KLM2023 · 24/11/2023 07:59

I think Dolly is bloody amazing! Not only has she been running her book program for years but she has set up multiple scholarships to encourage kids into further education, donated to hospitals and part-funded the Moderna Covid vaccine. She’s always been supportive of LGBTQ people, even when it was almost unheard of within the country music world. And to top it off she always seems so kind and humble when you hear/see her. Can you tell that I love her?

wildwestpioneer · 24/11/2023 08:01

I saw her live a few years ago and she was amazing. The one person who sounds better live than recorded.

Yep she’s an icon with a heart of gold.

pearlyrose · 24/11/2023 08:02

She's a legend! Love Dolly

Atswimtwogirls · 24/11/2023 08:02

She is amazing live!

SauceCat · 24/11/2023 08:03

I loved her backing singers too. None in the first flush of youth, and having a ball! I enjoyed watching them all 😊

PaperSn0wAGhOst · 24/11/2023 08:02

Yep she’s an icon with a heart of gold.

I think she actually goes to schools near where she lives to listen to children read when she can too.

Probably a result of a very poor childhood herself (very large family growing up in a very small house, basically a shed in the woods) so she wants to give something back to society.

Goodornot · 24/11/2023 08:07

By her own admission she has surgery and procedures done. So at 77 no wonder she looks like that. It isn't natural.

Also

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man.

Come on Dolly...it should be you're welcome to the cheating bastard I don't want him.

Don't get the hype.

Fizbosshoes · 24/11/2023 08:10

I've read a few interviews with her recently and the more I read the more impressed I am.
I think she's great

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 24/11/2023 08:12

I loved that response she gave in an interview - she was asked what she would say/think when someone calls her a dumb blond and she said : I know I’m not dumb and I also know I’m not blond. 😍😍😍 Love Dolly so much.

walkingintothefuture · 24/11/2023 08:14

I bloody LOVE HER. She is one of the most genuinely lovely, non arrogant celebs I've ever seen.

Love it- she also said "You know, I look like a woman but I think like a man. And in this world of business, that has helped me a lot. Because by the time they think that I don't know what's goin' on, I then got the money, and gone."

Brilliant.

Agreed!

I don't understand how anyone could dislike her, her music fine if it's not your taste but as a person she's bloody faultless!

She's genuinely one of the few celebrities I can think of who have tried to make the world a better place and used their status as a springboard for something far greater than themselves.

She does indeed rock.

walkingintothefuture · 24/11/2023 08:20

@YourNameGoesHere I only found out recently that she wrote I will always love you- she's very talented

This.

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 24/11/2023 08:24

@Goodornot that is sad if that is how you define how good a person is - on how they choose to look and some song lyrics ….
