...regardless of your feelings about the settlements themselves? I haven't been to any of the following but they have a definite appeal:

Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Barton In The Beans
Bourton-on-the-Water - it sounds frightfully English

My favourite is Tring.

@TheAccidental I've always liked Six Mile Bottom too. Thought it hilarious as a kid.

Pratt's Bottom is quite good.

I like the name Clacton as it sounds onomatopoeic

Ayr is good
Slough too
Fringham also tickles my fancy for some reason

TheWayTheLightFalls · 23/11/2023 19:49

Not quite in the same league but I maintain that Surbiton sounds like invented shorthand for boring suburbia.

Towcester and Bicester ... They're funniest spoken than written.
Freezywater sounds like a great place but it's probably nothing like I imagine as it's in Enfield Grin

Tong, Badger and Wigwig in Shropshire are cool, as is Saighton (pronounced Satan) in Cheshire.
Signs on the A75 for Wigtown always used to make me snigger as a child but I love it now for its proliferation of book shops.
Teakettle Row in Ironbridge has the second best street name, bested only by Bogey Lane in Pontesbury.

BrimfulOfMash · 23/11/2023 19:59

I need to move to Pant Y Wacco immediately.
