Extra strong foot file/sander needed!

SM4713 · 23/11/2023 12:14

I'm considering buying a DIY sander for DH's heels. He uses heel cream, but they are still like leather. Does anyone know of an electric file type thing that works?

B&Q angle grinder might work.

Mykittensmittens · 23/11/2023 12:17

I have the emoji micro pedi from Amazon, and you can get ‘extra coarse’ refill things which are twice as effective as the ones it comes with.

sit on edge of bath to use so I can rinse the bath after - it takes a lot off!!

SwayingInTime · 23/11/2023 12:21

Really gross but when they got really bad I microplaned (the posh parmesan greater) mine all off and then just kept on top of it.

Make an appt at the podiatrist, regular appointments sorts this out.

I had a pedicure not too long ago and they used an actual cheese grater to get the hard skin off the balls of my feet 😂 it surprised me so much that my friend in the other treatment room heard me go 'oh a cheese grater!?'

Anon1072 · 23/11/2023 16:50

The Original Colossal Foot file is brilliant ( on Amazon). It does, I suppose, look a lot like a cheese grater.

Roussette · 23/11/2023 17:08

This is fantastic, seriously! My feet are beautiful (now!)

SM4713 · 23/11/2023 21:17

@squareyedannie I did actually look up real sanders, but using a finer sand paper. DH said no though! 😂

A podiatrist might be a good idea, but the other suggestions are great too. Thanks everyone.

@SM4713 If they're anything like my DHs, anything less would be useless.

yoshiblue · 23/11/2023 21:28

What cream does he use? O Keefe healthy feet is amazing...I'm a dancer and it's made a massive difference when I've had painful hard feet.

I use this one as well, and my feet are gorgeous even if I say so myself!

TigerOnTour · 23/11/2023 21:32

I use a corn knife to plane the edges off my heels. Super cheap off eBay.

TenderDandelions · 23/11/2023 21:33

I find this really good too

Third this one

My routine is
File on dry feet (careful as easy to overdo) weekly once feet are looking ok
Exfoliate with body scrub weekly
Wash feet with soap and scrubby gloves daily
Urea based foot cream every night before bed (I put a fair bit on with socks over)

Went to the podiatrist and she said how lovely my feet were and she had no hard skin to remove

This one! I’ve tried every type you can imagine but this is by a million miles the easiest and most effective I’ve had.

I splashed out on the Microplane (yes the cheese grater company - the make foot files too) foot file 12 years ago and have been raving about it ever since, lots of my friends now have it too and love it. It's simply the best. I get a particularly stubborn big toe callus (never tender) and bad heels that crack painfully if I don't keep on top of them. It's great for that. Very important to use this particular file on dry skin ie before shower. It's super efficient so be careful. Still I've only ever drawn blood once. Only need to use it every other week or so.
Also in foot creams, look for the highest possible percentage of urea.
My mum has similar issues and goes to a podiatrist regularly but honestly my results are better.

caringcarer · 24/11/2023 00:48

You need a food pedi.

SurvivorsInc · 24/11/2023 00:52

Another one saying podiatrist here. I'm diabetic and struggle with hard cracked skin on heels and podiatrist is brilliant! I'm supposed to used a cream but I'm bad at self care (and trying not to be)

MicrowaveRice · 24/11/2023 01:02

I used to have hoofy feet but are now soft skinned since using bar soap instead of shower gel ... have done nothing different but no hard skin now.

bellsbuss · 24/11/2023 01:06

@Roussette I have that one too and it's amazing

Second everything. I’ve never looked back after buying a Microplane foot file and Margaret Dabbs cream. I spent a fortune going to chiropodists in the past and there’s no need with this diy method. You just have to be careful as it is very sharp.

Crabward · 24/11/2023 07:51

Soaking his feet in warm water will soften it, then a good amount will just rub away using a firm towel (not soft and fluffy). May need to be repeated. Then use a moisturiser every day before putting on socks

Electric Foot File Callus... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09CKN3G9H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I couldn't get an appointment with a podiatrist in good time and so got this. It is utterly fabulous. Comes in black as well.
I had some hard callouses on my feet and this got rid of them completely.
It is so perfect that I will be using it rather than going to a podiatrist in future.
