7 days …which European city

I have 7 days to visit any city in Europe ? Where would you choose and why. I will be alone so will probably choose a hotel as I want people around me.
Have been to Paris and would love to spend longer but is such an “obvious” choice.
PS know I am very lucky!

Barcelona. We spent 3 days there last year which was no where near enough so visited again this year for a week and could have spent another week there. We absolutely love it and if you go when it's warmer you can enjoy the beach as well as the city.

Seville. Have done loads of European city breaks and this is my favourite. Plus the bonus of great weather.
Currently in Vienna.

Iwanttheraintostop · 22/11/2023 09:01

Barcelona - lots to do and beach

BIossomtoes · 22/11/2023 09:14

Florence. It’s beautiful, great food and the gelato is to die for.

MrsMariaReynolds · 22/11/2023 09:15

Rome or Lisbon

Popdrop · 22/11/2023 09:17

Florence.

DoThePropeller · 22/11/2023 09:18

I’d do Lisbon, great city and half an hour from lovely beaches. Really good foodie scene with loads of brilliant restaurants.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 22/11/2023 09:19

I'd go to Dinan in Brittany because I'm interested in medieval social history. It's a lovely medieval town full of original buildings and has a wonderful feel to it. The surrounding countryside is also beautiful.

Susurrar · 22/11/2023 09:21

Florence. It’s stunning, great food and wine. And if you somehow get bored (impossible but who knows) you’re close enough to Bologna or Pisa to take a day trip.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 22/11/2023 09:22

Budapest is my favourite if summer
Barcelona
Lisbon
Palermo
Malaga
Valencia

id also consider Seville and Granada or Granada and Cordoba as 7 days would be enough to do a twin centre, and you can easily get the train between them. Infact you could do Malaga and one of them too.

TheClitterati · 22/11/2023 09:22

Berlin. Fab city with lots to see & do - history, art, culture, food, etc.

KitchenSinkLlama · 22/11/2023 09:23

If all the cities in Spain I would never go back to Barcelona.

How about Malaga city and then travel to Cordoba for the day and Grenada.

Beach, history and a beautiful coastline.

TheClitterati · 22/11/2023 09:25

There is a lot of love for Florence here. I always find it overly touristy & dull. Of course it has some wonders but a couple of days would be enough for me.

Susurrar · 22/11/2023 09:39

It’s all down to very personal preference, isn’t it? I love Florence and find it an excellent base for days out in broader Tuscany. Never found it as busy and touristy as for example Rome or Venice .

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 22/11/2023 10:15

at this time of year venice, 2 days in venice, however if yyou want to explore more the other areas of venice can be great up by the old Jewish ghhetto or behind the university into boat building areas you may barely see antoher tourist a day or two exploring the islands, a day trip to Padua another to Verona or down the coast to Chioggia

Lifeinlists · 22/11/2023 10:28

Paris may be the obvious choice because it is the obvious choice. It's intoxicating and so much variety.

Definitely Venice after that and as pp says, this time of year is especially good.

Nice is nice too!

Lifeinlists · 22/11/2023 10:30

Just to add Leipzig and Dresden. Both amazingly interesting.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 22/11/2023 10:32

Stockholm
Malaga
Rome
Bilbao
Nice

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/11/2023 10:34

Amsterdam. Fantastic city and also within easy reach of other beautiful places for day trips.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/11/2023 10:35

San Sebastián - bit different to the usual destinations and so much to see. And the food and drink!

CrimsonPig · 22/11/2023 10:36

My favourites:

Barcelona
Lisbon
Amsterdam

relaxandchillout · 22/11/2023 10:46

Berlin
Seville
Rome

I found Florence a bit too studious and self important. I know it has a lot to feel important about, but I don't think I could deal with it for more than 2 or 3 days.

I would do something like this .

TheSingingDefective · 22/11/2023 11:51

Prague for me, if you stay away from the Wenceslas Square area it is a fantastic historic city and the architecture is wonderful.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/11/2023 11:52

Oooh almost forgot - I'm off to Cluj-Napoca soon - looks amazing, can't wait, maybe somewhere like that rather than the more often visited cities (although I'm also going to Vienna and I can't wait for that either!)
