Absolute legend

Agree.

Birchvalley · 21/11/2023 16:46

Every time I say ‘next slide’ I think of him 😁

MissyB1 · 21/11/2023 16:49

The only possible positive of the pandemic was us getting to know (well sort of, you know what I mean) Chris Whitty. Pp is right, he’s a legend.

Oh yes, me too! I do try to not smile, but you can style it out by saying to yourself 'I am engaging with my audience'.

LlynTegid · 21/11/2023 17:52

Patience of a saint not to have said a few choice words at Covid press conferences when the blatant lies of the relevant government minister were trotted out.

EasternStandard · 21/11/2023 17:53

Agree. Massive intellect and patience

Plus articulation

Barrister was annoying though

Doingmybest12 · 21/11/2023 18:18

I watched a lot of his evidence today. I felt disappointed by his commitment to neutrality and balance. He came over to me like a politician , avoidant.

I actually appreciated this. He knew his role.

Really!? Complete tool in my opinion. Everything about the pandemic was terribly managed and he was at the centre of it all.

He didn't manage it.

HeavenCANTwait · 21/11/2023 19:02

He didn't manage any of it - he's not a politician- what he did was provide extensive advice

Which the fuckers refused to take 🤷‍♀️

megletthesecond · 21/11/2023 19:04

If he'd managed it we'd have been in less of a mess.

All he could do was advise, the shitshow of our government were the ones who made the decisions (or rather, didn't).

Blame Boris Johnson over anyone else - this inquiry is proving he was well out of his depth.

Sorry . As you were.

PercyMcPigface · 21/11/2023 19:10

Exactly, he was presenting the facts and a scientific view which put terrible government didn't utilise properly.
The scary bit being that it was so badly handled, if god forbid there was another pandemic, the worst thing for any government would be actually getting the public to believe them

ladymalfoy45 · 21/11/2023 19:11

@Woush this is jam hot

I felt the same, Patrick Vallance seemed much more direct and honest about what went on. Having said that I'm looking after sick GC so I couldn't give it my full attention.

Iwasafool · 21/11/2023 19:12

I think it is JVT tomorrow. I hope to be able to watch all of it.

Ireolu · 21/11/2023 19:12

A friend of ours was one of his juniors. He is an absolute legend and very well respected on the wards too when he is there.

QueenOfMOHO · 21/11/2023 19:15

My DH has a PhD in a related virology subject and was shouting at the TV that we needed to lock down sooner. Today CW admitted that they should have done just that and he had influence in that call. I'm not sure he is quite the legend I thought he was.

I posted similar in a critical vein and the thread was pulled - the words damn shitty Whitty featured.

absolute arse. Saw his chance and took it.

Well they all do but I hate him more because we had a chance of no lockdown if he’d stuck to his original view. is that Gresham college talk still up or has it been conveniently removed?

I hope I never bump into him or Hancock.

As did I. Thought he was more about how to learn lessons and better prepare and manage for when this happens again. Not apportioning blame and telling us all the Boris was useless. We all know Boris was useless.

I agree with that. When Cummings broke the rules, he refused to comment or answer if doing that was ok for everyone.
I think that he's one of the better people at the top. It was quite cold to say that only those affected by MH issues as the result of lock down was a matter of public health. Not those pushed into deprivation and poverty. Deprivation and poverty has a direct affect on health, so there wasn't a category of people who didn't come under his department. He did well to say during the COVID updates that we were in the position we were because of a shocking lack of investment, if not running down of the NHS. It interesting that it was ignored at the time. I think CW started off really well, but quickly went to nodding dog.

Onceacheetah · 21/11/2023 19:28

It's good he's getting to give his side of the story. I watched from Ireland as your government let you down so badly. So many unnecessary deaths. RIP.
