Absolute legend

Lovely, gentle, intelligent man. Worked the Covid wards on Christmas day. More men like him needed in politics.

It certainly makes sense if you want to have the biggest, best, earliest, world-beating, superman, vaccine ever.

Even if we stopped using that vaccine after 12 months for some undisclosed reason...

Point being that they couldn't start using the vaccine until they'd shown it to work 'in the wild'.

Iwasafool · 21/11/2023 21:10

boudiccathecat · 21/11/2023 21:06

Why would they deliberately infect unvaccinated people to test a vaccine which is supposed to protect them later. It doesn’t make sense.

Tuskegee experiment? Leaving people to suffer from syphilis to study how it progressed when they had a cure. I remember the scandal breaking in the early 70s and it was hard to imagine how that was allowed to happen.

Blueblell · 21/11/2023 21:11

He was concerned about the social impact of lockdown and was correct

catscatscurrantscurrants · 21/11/2023 21:18

I watched most of the inquiry today. The impression I got was of a quiet man who dislikes finger pointing and pile-ons, and tries to be fair and balanced about everyone. A good deal more circumspect than other witnesses have been. And it certainly cannot have been an easy tightrope to walk, I wouldn't have wanted his job.

SparklingSparkle · 21/11/2023 21:19

Every time I wash my hands I make sure I do it long enough to make Professor Sir Chris Whitty happy.
Hero.

Aishah231 · 21/11/2023 18:35

Really!? Complete tool in my opinion. Everything about the pandemic was terribly managed and he was at the centre of it all.

And your qualifications in epidemiology of respiratory infections qualifies you to state this? Or are you just a tool?

StillWantingADog · 21/11/2023 21:25

I’m team Patrick valance. He was far more upfront about what a shit show it was. I feel sad for him that his private diaries were published however they tell a very serious story.

The thoroughness of how I wash my hands could be said to have increased exponentially since Covid. All thoroughly washed and germ-free after every Tesco-visit or dump. I even did the 'Happy Birthday' thing earlier after a trip to the Co-op.

I found his testimony today slightly slippery to be honest. It's just a feeling I had and I wouldn't argue with anyone who thinks otherwise.

In other words, “I have no reason to say this, but hey, I just know…!”
He would probably be rubbish on a quiz show too, so that means he’s a bit dodgy.

I was grateful for this today

It wasn’t spoken about enough during

Oblomov23 · 21/11/2023 21:31

Shame we don't see more of him now.

I think what I wrote was quite clear?

My personal feelings were that some parts of his testimony were a bit slippery.

I don't feel strongly enough about those feelings to get into an argument with anyone about it.

You can, of course, view his testimony yourself, and the transcript. You're free to make your own mind up. I was just voicing my own opinion - as I made clear.

If you don't like my opinion you're perfectly entitled to form your own. I won't object.

Although in fairness, if The Chuckle Brothers, Rod Hull's Emu and Timmy Mallet were in charge, things would also be much improved.

You're not wrong

The point being you slander someone for no reason than, er, well no reason. Actually I suspect you are a bit stupid, because, well, just because.

LemonLymanDotCom · 21/11/2023 21:40

I used to work with him about 15 years ago. He was a lovely bloke. Reserved but very kind & generous.

daisychain01 · 21/11/2023 21:40

TheThingIsYeah · 21/11/2023 20:09

First I’ve seen or heard of Whitty since he was given a knighthood. Same with JVT. On our screens every day for the best part of 2 years then all of a sudden became Sirs and disappeared.

Everyone is wise after the event as an old colleague of mine used to say when someone had fucked up at work.

I expect they're back, um, y'know, in their day jobs saving more lives.

mrwalkensir · 21/11/2023 21:41

Suspect part of Cumming's problem is actually being intellectually very bright, but unable to hide his despair at how incompetent Boris and the others actually turned out to be. So went off the rails emotionally.

I've not slandered him at all. I said that I found his testimony a bit slippery. That's a statement of my opinion, not a statement of fact.

Are you a bit hard of thinking?

I imagine he had the best legal advice money can buy and will know what he can and can't comment on. I am not sure Boris' obvious personality issues/ flairs are necessary to the enquiry. We can all see for ourselves.

rileynexttime · 21/11/2023 21:52

@SoMuchSimpler your post has been reported. Hopefully it will be removed .

SoMuchSimpler · 21/11/2023 21:54

I'm astonished that would be removed, or even reported in the first place. Oh well.

BigBoysDontCry · 21/11/2023 21:58

He paraded out of date stats in order to make points that were invalid. He's a first class knob.

carly2803 · 21/11/2023 22:05
