How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

People comparing him to unsavoury characters, I can't see it with Cliff, he was too handsome, I'm sure he could have had his pick of suitors.

I don't think stuff will come out, but being able to pull doesn't stop someone being rapey etc. Look at Brand.

True, but Cliff never struck me as an Alpha type, like Brand, hanging round with Sue Barker, Una Stubbs and Gloria Huniford, it's just an impression you get.

Then again Micheal Jackson looked quite innocent once.

Anyway I hope not.

Kitty, wasn't it?

Yep that's him

CBAanymoreTBH · 21/11/2023 00:45

Yep that's him

Allegedly.

Chris Fay, Carl Beech, that guy who said he was attacked by CR at a Billy Graham rally. Not one of them with a reputation for being honest or not a fantasist. Funny that.

@RandomForest @porridgeisbae not sure being alpha is linked to being rapey. Carl "nick" Beech has been mentioned on this thread, not just as an alleged victim but a paedo himself . Look at photos of him. Doesn't seen an alpha type. An unstable oddball more like.

GrandpaFlumpAndHisFlumpet · 21/11/2023 01:17

Has anyone who is straightforward and honest and not a bit dodgy themselves made an allegation against CR so far? If they have I would be interested to hear it . Most of Jimmy Saville's accusers on the other hand seems quite plausible and didn't have extensive histories of being a bit unreliable with the truth.

Of course a known liar may be like a broken clock that is right twice a day and occasionally tell the truth. It's possible . But I find it interesting that not one solid citizen has made an allegation . Or is it that they were silenced because they are more likely to be believed than the dodgy types? Is Carl Beech really a plant to distract from genuine victims ???

I started off being a sceptic but I'm falling into a rabbit hole here it seems.

To be honest I'm a bit out of my depth with this conversation, people will always speculate with CR, it's just gossip.

Wedontdeservedogs · 21/11/2023 02:54

Obviously wasn't aimed at Alison but I love that she subtly called him out.

Why on earth he thought it was a good look for him to say that on national tv at all is anyone's guess.

Just because he's a "certain age" doesn't make it okay.
We wouldn't let sexist, racist & other "ist" notions of the past just slip by without comment.

I do feel like TM should point out that Sir Cliff's views do not align with their own, however... shan't be holding my breath

SpidersAreShitheads · 21/11/2023 03:01

I'll start by saying I've never felt comfortable about CR - ever since I was young, he always gave me an "off" feeling but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I still can't explain why. I wonder if it's because he's very defensive and prickly about his private life and that tends to naturally arouse suspicion (albeit subconsciously), or maybe there's some kind of conflict within him about his religious beliefs and his sexual preferences, and on some level my subconscious has picked up his awkwardness? Maybe there's a level of cognitive dissonance within CR and that is what others (like myself) are picking up on?

Or maybe that he's always felt a bit like an older guy who's not really accepted the fact that he's getting older and things have changed (his comment about being compared to current boy bands sums this up beautifully). And there is a slightly icky feeling about an older man who seems to be perennially stuck trying to recapture his 20s.

I really don't know. Just musing really.

I don't think for a second it's because he's (allegedly) gay. There are countless examples of gay entertainers of all ages, so I don't think that's the issue for either me or anyone else (if that turned out to be true).

He's always seemed a bit rude, abrupt, self-absorbed, and as if he doesn't have much of a sense of humour about himself. As if he believes his own hype a bit too much. I still don't think any of these things are the "off" feeling though. There's something else.

Out of all the PP who said that he's a wrong 'un, I'd be interested to know how many thought that before the stuff re Kitty and the police raid was made public. As in, did you always think there was something "not right" about CR or did those feelings only arise after the raids/rumours etc?

Sartre · 20/11/2023 14:08

I don’t think he was aiming it at her and if she was upset about it, perhaps she isn’t happy being overweight?

There is no 'perhaps' about it.

She's tried a gastric band and weight watches and cried about her weight on TV.

@SpidersAreShitheads I also feel there is something 'off'. Maybe I just don't like him.

LowbrowVictoriana · 21/11/2023 07:33

Something a bit off, yes! It's strange: CR was always reasonably handsome, but somehow not at all attractive. Weird.

That said, wasn't all the Beech house/Kitty stuff investigated and found to be a load of crap?

Not sure why Russell Brand has been mentioned as an example if someone who was attractive but still committed sexual violence. He is utterly repulsive!

lizzy8230 · 21/11/2023 08:29

I've no great liking for CR; he seems very self satisfied and lacking in awareness.

However, the stuff about the 'Kitty' name and frequenting a dodgy 'guest house' was thoroughly investigated and found to be fictitious. Some arsehole guy who had commited child sex crimes was found to have fabricated it along with a load of other bollocks about having seen children murdered.

smilesup · 21/11/2023 08:41

fearfuloffluff · 20/11/2023 15:05

Ah, come on. Fat Elvis was clearly spiralling out of control in lots of ways and a big mess. His weight was just one element of it. If he was your hero, you might think twice about meeting him when he was that way.

CR attitude is just typical of his time. I was looking at girls' annuals from 70s and 80s the other day. General cultural messaging that being fat is shameful and means you won't be liked or valued, losing weight through deprivation was the answer and resulted in success, health and beauty.

He's on TV because a lot of older people like him and there aren't that many people from the old days you can get on like that - old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc.

I imagine when he pops off to the Summer Holiday in the sky we'll hear about his tormented relationship with his sexuality, body and food. I'd feel sorry for him rather than angry with him.

Old biddies are surely the main rolling stones fan base?!

Yes, even before he was raided by the police and it was made public (I don’t know about Kitty) I always felt there was something “not right” about CR.

As @LowbrowVictoriana says he was reasonably handsome yet not at all attractive. I still stand by what I say re Girl magazine (they said it more than once in articles as I recall), you were supposed to in these articles “Girl” find him attractive. If you google (can’t be bothered to link) you’ll find Girl magazine has 2 mentions of him in 1981 and 1982, I’d have been 10/11 then. He released Wired For Sound in 1981 but I found that song very cringey even at 10!

God really? Not Rock bands , Marc Bolan or David Cassidy?

Marc Bolan and David Cassidy were more 70s pinups weren't they? CR was late 50s and the 60s so a different generation of teenage girls.

I struggle to trust a man who appears to be ‘a-sexual’. I was surprised by the results of the Police investigation!

He had an affair with Jet Harris's wife so he can't have been that a-sexual.

😂

Best comment.
But love Tommy, respect, he was a tour de force.

Tommy is a Trouper. And he will always be remembered for the worst Irish accent of all time , in Finian's Rainbow.

And there's lots of competition.

& now I have to youtube this 😂Irish accents on film cannot be done unless it's Steve Coogan or Brad Pitt in Snatch (& that's a Travellers accent so even harder!)

A PP had said that why would Cliff need to abuse people when he can pull. By all accounts, Brand can pull (some people) but is still abusive.

funbags3 · 21/11/2023 13:16

Too good looking to be a predator has to be the most bat-shit crazy thing said on here.

porridgeisbae · 21/11/2023 13:17

@funbags3 On FB I follow someone who posted a vid saying the same thing about Brand, too. 🙄

funbags3 · 21/11/2023 13:21

@porridgeisbae lock up the uglies, I say.

porridgeisbae · 21/11/2023 13:25

Problem solved.

funbags3 · 21/11/2023 13:30

I imagine they'd be one of the fan-girls fawning over Ted Bundy at his trial.

DeeKitch · 21/11/2023 13:34

Who is Kitty?

funbags3 · 21/11/2023 13:36

@DeeKitch I asked the same. Someone explained it further up. I'm still none the wiser.
