How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

Whatever

As a British pop star he was HUGE

He was, I wasn't a fan as The Beatles were my first pop heroes but my older sister loved him.

Elvis must have been shitting it when Tommy Steele released Little white bull, British pop was shit until 63 onwards.

Lol

Again, so what?
His type of music was already popular and familiar before he made it. It wasn't new, even to Brits.
Verstehst?

Whatevs.

I'd forgotten Tommy Steele. He always seemed a pleasant person. I never saw him as a pop star but did see him in theatre, he was starring in Singing in the Rain. It was very good.

Uricon2 · 20/11/2023 19:26

I think Cliff R was marketed initially as the British Elvis. Look at the pouty photos from that period. He did OK, he still has many fans who are older themselves now, but Elvis he was not. He was also not the Beatles, Who, Rolling Stones or any of the parent offending crew who rapidly came to the fore in the early 60s and drew more inspiration from real rock and roll legends like Little Richard.

Some US cleverclogs with his eyes on the dollar signs!

Not a Nazi plot then? You know, like Hitler's Plan B?

lollipoprainbow · 20/11/2023 19:40

He's told that story before on loose women

CR attitude is just typical of his time. I was looking at girls' annuals from 70s and 80s the other day. General cultural messaging that being fat is shameful and means you won't be liked or valued, losing weight through deprivation was the answer and resulted in success, health and beauty

This is so true. I clearly remember two stories about overweight girls from my Jackie annuals. One was injured using her weight to rescue another girl on a runaway horse, spent time in hospital where she tada! lost weight. The other was about an overweight girl who went to live in a farm and tada! lost weight through doing farm work. Those were the plots. Overweight girls lose weight and become popular. Yuk.

Not sure why they have stuck in my mind for the past 40-odd years, but the fact that they have probably means the messages were well and truly subconsciously received.

All I remember from the seventies was calorie counting and diets. It really was the worst thing ever to be even slightly overweight. My mother is obsessed with weight too. As a young woman weight was the standard by which they judged each other. Cliff is of that generation.
I think he believes he’s really gorgeous. He wasn’t really gorgeous even when he was young.

AllAroundMyCat · 20/11/2023 19:45

It’s not tax that he’s evading.

HRTQueen · 20/11/2023 19:50

Maybe he would have been better saying that he didn’t want to meet Elvis as he wasn’t what he used to be

which is true he was drugged up and bloated he was no longer the idol so many had adored they wanted to be in awe of him not pity him and he had become a pitiful figure

and CR is from an Anglo India culture there is no oh you look well aka in English as you have packed on weight it’s straight forward you have got fat followed by laughter usually. This is also why he has always been private about his sexuality he came from a very religious background

Treesinmygarden · 20/11/2023 19:52

AllAroundMyCat · 20/11/2023 19:45

Do you have actual, you know, evidence to support your allegation, or are you just jumping on the bandwagon of gossip and hearsay?

I think all the bandying around of malicious gossip and opinions whose basis is flimsy at best, is repellant.

Makes me think of the types who would have sat around knitting during the French Revolution, gossiping while watching the executions.

My insinuations? I haven’t made any insinuations. My post was my first post on the thread. And while I take your point that a ‘feeling’ isn’t enough to suggest that someone has committed a crime, whatever those allegations were, they were clearly sufficient to convince a Judge to issue a warrant. So sit down with your ‘baseless accusations’ and claims that he was ‘found innocent’ because you’re no better informed than anyone else. And not finding evidence to support a prosecution doesn’t make an allegation false either. None of us know for certain.

And not finding evidence to support a prosecution doesn’t make an allegation false either.

Actually, in the eyes of the law, it does.

Elvis must have been shitting it when Tommy Steele released Little white bull, British pop was shit until 63 onwards.

With some rare exceptions .

Shaking All Over by Johnny Kidd
Move It by C R
Halfway To Paradise by Billy Fury.

But yes a bit grim really.

Try telling that to the thousands of rape victims whose cases don’t get past the CPS. Or are you suggesting that, in the eyes of the law, all those victims are lying?

AllAroundMyCat · 20/11/2023 20:14

@CharingX976

BBC were hovering over his property before the police arrived.
Why?
Police removed files .

BBC were IMMEDIATELY slapped with a privacy lawsuit.

No further investigation. Why?

I often think that he's the one that it will all come out about when he dies. They say there is someone who will shock people, and I have a suspicion it may be him.

As for the PP earlier, who claims he has given his whole life to charity and entertainment. He hasn't done it for free, has he? He chose that as a career, don't make out he had to give over his whole life as some sort of sacrifice. I'm sure he doesn't mind that he gave his whole life while he sits in his mansion in Barbados.

I think the one that is usually referred to as who people will be shocked by is David Jason...but there is absolutely a lot to he revealed about Cliff as well.

Trez1510 · 20/11/2023 20:32

Badbadbunny · 20/11/2023 19:02

He wouldn't have got compo from the police and bbc if there'd been any real evidence/reason for the raid!

I understood 'the compo' was given based on privacy issues, rather than the substantive reason for the raid i.e. the compo had zero relation to the actual allegations/evidence garnered etc.

Smoke'n'mirrors has, I believe, been CR's modus operandi for decades.

feellikeanalien · 20/11/2023 20:34

I don't think you can really compare Cliff Richard to the Stones or the Beatles. He was more like a teen pop hero.

I remember watching the Cliff Richard films on a Saturday morning when I was a kid and it was all very wholesome and family orientated. I think because of his religious side he never seemed like a proper rocker. You can't imagine him driving cars into swimming pools and having mad acid trips.

He does look very odd now.

Cliff's a wrong 'un.

I completely agree

Late to this, but

God some people on here are so nasty. About someone who's given his whole life to enertaining others and worked tirelessly for charity and good causes

The same was said about Jimmy Savile before he died, then it all came tumbling out.

Roger Daltrey popping up there too!

I always thought that awful song was Cliff's and Cliff's alone.

Icouldeatatesticle · 20/11/2023 20:51

@AllAroundMyCat Shit, that’s weird, how can the police get away with covering that stuff up?

I thought Fergie was quite embarrassing fawning all over him
