Thread 11 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Whoops, missed the filling up of the previous thread! (thread 10).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

That's an interesting development with Cat Burglar, Kuc. I'd have thought that most people would moan that their cat had abandoned them and latched onto someone else.

My brother in law adopted a kitten, some years ago. A woman across the road had him and went away for a month. Poor starving kitten, he started to feed him and then couldn't get rid of him. The woman got another cat and fucked off again, so they reported her and someone official came to rescue it.

SinnerBoy · 14/01/2024 11:33

I'm nursing a sore elbow, acquired as I was walking up to Tynemouth Market, earlier. A woman hit me from behind, riding a bicycle. She stopped and I thought she was going to apologise, but she told me to watch where I was fucking going!

I was too surprised to even say anything, I just stood there, slack jawed.

What's wrong with CB (CeeBee?) for a name?

That's good news @Kucinghitam and not dissimialr to how I got Archie, my youngest. Thing is Archie had a brother and he too would come and stay at my house, as well as loads of other people's houses in the village. His owner was none too pleased when Archie decided to live at mine and even asked me in a snippy Facebook DM not to steal her other cat as well. I assured her she was welcome to take Archie back but I had no power to stop him coming into my house. She didn't seem like a bad or irresponsible owner but I suspected her kids made for a noisy and chaotic household that was maybe too much for the cats. I left the village last year when I bought this house, brought Archie with me and he loves it here. His brother Chester seems to have been adopted by the whole village as the village Facebook page often has posts about Chester being in someone's conservatory or sunbathing on their roof. His favourite trick is hanging around outside the local Co-Op and mugging people for any slices of ham they might happen to leave the shop with.

Kucinghitam · 14/01/2024 12:25

I've no doubt CB's previous people won't have been thrilled that she decided to fuck off to our house. I imagine how dischuffed I would have felt if Phoebe had done the same.

But I think everybody was just getting worried because she was staying outside in all weathers rather than going back to her old house, and also it wasn't clear where she was getting food because we weren't feeding her. I guess her previous people decided it would be better for her - we didn't dare to request to adopt her because we felt it would be grabby and presumptuous.

(I'm actually mystified why she decided to latch on to our house in the first place).

@duc748 I did suggest CB as a name but DDs firmly rejected it, they pointed out that CB isn't a name either Grin We are thinking that Posie might work, and at least that is an actual name.

I am thrilled to hear about your eventual total capitulation to CB, @Kucinghitam

MmePoppySeedDefage · 14/01/2024 12:28

Ouch Sinner, I assume you were on the pavement. You could try reporting her to the police - being as how riding a bicycle on the pavement is dangerous.

SinnerBoy · 14/01/2024 12:32

Yes, it was a pavement, it may be a shared cycle path, but I didn't see signs. I don't think it's worth bothering with the Police, to be honest.

Dotellhimpike · 14/01/2024 12:40

Surely the onus was on her to look out for pedestrians? Isn't that how he new Highway Code sets it out?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/01/2024 13:19

What a rude woman, Sinner!

Years ago me and Mr Veg were walking along a pavement and rounded a corner to see a teenage boy on a bike right in front of us, with his friend on foot. I was carrying my jacket over my arm and, without thinking, held it out with one arm, like a matador. I don't really know why I reacted that way, but it was automatic. Boy on the bike rode into a wall. No harm done and fortunately both boys burst out laughing and we all continued on our ways. Just as well we're in a fairly nice town or I dread to think what might have happened.

Britinme · 14/01/2024 14:25

CB/Posie obviously knows a good thing when she sees one!

I am also on fire to know about Bint’s mother’s experience.

MouseMinge · 14/01/2024 21:29

I was going to suggest CB too, but Posie is lovely and, as you say, it is an actual name. You've been well and truly chosen and that's lovely. I'm really pleased for you and for Posie.

I finally got around to making myself a banana milkshake today. Two bananas, 250ml full fat milk, big old scoop of vanilla ice cream and in place of whipped double cream a whole lot of squirty cream. It was bloody lovely and I can't wait to have another one tomorrow.

VictorianBigot · 14/01/2024 21:52

That sounds delicious @MouseMinge, apart from the banana which I can’t stand Grin

@Kucinghitam YABVU not to give us Posie photos.

duc748 · 14/01/2024 22:02

Have you had a go at lassi, Mouse? I used to love a mango lassi.

MouseMinge · 14/01/2024 22:12

It's lucky that I love them because I need to get as much potassium in my system as possible. Milk also has a decent amount of potassium, tomatoes - I've had tinned tomatoes with my scrambled egg, spinach and I had fish pie last night that had salmon in it. Oh and that had a potato topping which also has potassium. It's a real shame that I can't go full baked potato with the skin on because that has a shed load of potassium in it. I do, however, have smooth peanut butter and a couple of spoons of that has a small amount of potassium in it so I'll get in that jar once I've posted.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/01/2024 22:46

Mango lassi is an excellent thing. Although banana milkshake would be better for adding a dollop of peanut butter to. And cocoa powder, which has a decent level of potassium.

MouseMinge · 14/01/2024 23:30

I quite like a mango lassi but I'm not convinced I'd make a good one. Mango does have potassium in it though, so I'll continue with the mango sorbet and banana milkshake for now.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/01/2024 23:37

It may not be entirely authentic, but my method for very easy mango lassi is stirring together 1 bottle of kefir and 1 tin of mango pulp.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/01/2024 23:39

That's the big bottles of kefir in the Polish section of larger supermarkets, not the smaller and more expensive ones in the main dairy chiller.

artant · 15/01/2024 23:31

For mango lassi, my method is to buy it from Asda. This may not be authentic but it’s delicious.

artant · 15/01/2024 23:32

That banana milkshake sounds bloody lovely though.

VictorianBigot · 15/01/2024 23:34

My method for lassi is similar to Bint’s, except I buy kefir with the mango already mixed in.

Kucinghitam · 16/01/2024 11:59

Here's our new girl, trying out her natty red collar. She seems completely happy with it (which surprised me a little as she'd never worn one).

Our cat flap is magnetic - I've temporarily taped down the magnetic catch, but ideally I would like not not have 300 random cats coming into our house and so she will need to wear a collar with a magnet.

Incidentally her name is evolving already, DDs have started calling her Mochi-Posie "because she's a sweet dumpling".
