Looking for advice for anyone that knows the law in this area (I know that there is a legal topic but I’m looking for quick answers)

they have just called me and I have the following information

  • they are in a nightclub and have been drinking
  • they have a can of spray paint
  • they are being detained by bouncers whilst they wait for the police on the basis of criminal damage
  • they are on their own as their friends have left

So, what are the police doing re the criminal damage?

What are the police doing re the club allowing an underage person in? Are they going to investigate that to see if he was actually sold alcohol there?

pickledandpuzzled · 18/11/2023 08:35

I’m surprised a 5’4” 17yr old male made it in without fake ID.

Girls obviously find it easier to age themselves up! DH was still getting ID’d at 21, 30 odd years ago.

Oblomov23 · 18/11/2023 08:38

Having a can of paint in a club, is a very very silly idea. And also then being pissed. Underage. He really needs a stern talking to OP.

He needs to find better friends. Hopefully this has been a wake-up call for him.

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 08:50

Like I said before - it’s well known being relaxed about having underage drinkers. They have unmanned entrances

Or maybe his friends need to find better friends...it always makes me laugh when people talk about others being a bad influence, never thinking that in the eyes of others, it's their child who could be the bad influence 🙄

GaggleTheGoose · 18/11/2023 08:55

Does he often go out with cans of spray paint to vandalise stuff with graffiti?
That would be my bigger concern.

daveded · 18/11/2023 08:59

@Longma

Do we know if there has been criminal damage yet? He had a spray can but we don't know if it has been used.

The police were called 'on the basis of criminal damage', so I'm asking OP to clarify what is happening now.

I think these comments are regarding his friends running off and leaving him

OP hasn't mentioned him being with anyone...

Yes, I'd be kicking up a storm about the club swelling alcohol to minors

What comments? You didn’t ^^mention his freinds or them leaving him? Who is commenting on that?

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 09:02

There was graffiti in the toilet, however only his friends on CCTV going in and out of the bathroom. We are waiting to see what the club want to do. He wasn’t arrested / cautioned

If the place is well known about failing to meet their licence, complain to the licensing authority.

None of which excuses your child's behaviour and I applaud the bouncers for their action.

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 09:31

Complaining is not where I need to be putting my energy right now but yes I get your point

Glad he’s home safely now.

Sympathies from someone else with a 17yo who I could easily imagine getting into a similar situation. I think is the hardest age of all for parenting.

Hey, you're probably hitting reply. If you click the 3 dots at the top right, and hit quite, it'll add the quote.

It trips lots of people up, its a really stupid design.

What does reply actually do @Bobbotgegrinch? I was stuck with it for a while.
