17 year old detained by bouncers

Perfectpeonies · 17/11/2023 22:38

Looking for advice for anyone that knows the law in this area (I know that there is a legal topic but I’m looking for quick answers)

they have just called me and I have the following information

  • they are in a nightclub and have been drinking
  • they have a can of spray paint
  • they are being detained by bouncers whilst they wait for the police on the basis of criminal damage
  • they are on their own as their friends have left

Letting a drunk minor leave alone could potentially be more dangerous for him. He's safer there than on the streets.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/11/2023 23:55

He’ll absolutely be fine

DNLove · 17/11/2023 23:56

Also if they are calling the police they will make sure they do everything above board. Your son is probably sitting in an office realising he's a little boy and not the big man he thought he was!

BoohooWoohoo · 17/11/2023 23:56

It's not a Guy Ritchie movie where the bouncers will beat your son up. They wouldn't have called the police if they were going to hurt your son.

I have a 17 year old and tbh I'd go down to the club and wait with my son.

Perfectpeonies · 17/11/2023 23:56

The police have just dropped him home.

He has his ID on him - showing his correct age.

He’s drunk so I have sent him to bed and will deal with him in the morning.

I have other DC so couldn’t leave.

‘let him out knowing he’s underage’ - I missed that part in the parenting handbook, will make sure I keep him under lock and key until he is 18

Re: asking on mumsnet. I’m a single mum, I don’t have anyone with me to sound off to.

My first priority was his safety. A friends son was in an altercation with bouncers recently and didn’t come off well so that’s probably why my mind went there.

It’s a club very much known by local teens as being easy to get into. I’m not excusing what he has done at all but they are well known for their ‘babysitting services’

They contacted the police.
He is safe at home.
It could have been a lot worse.
Give them some credit.

That was in reply to a previous comment but it didn’t quote

Oh dear -he is going to have a sore head in the morning!!
I wouldn't have been worried about the bouncers who had called the police -they were hardly going to beat him up waiting for the police to arrive. They just wanted him gone safely. He is a kid pissed up, I'd want him accompanied home too.
We've all done stupid shit as teens. I used to be in the pubs and clubs every weekend from 15 years old in the 90s when you never got ID checked. Have a chat with him tomorrow.

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 00:07

Yes I am grateful to them now. Obviously when I got the call my mind was racing and I only had what my son had told me to go on. ‘They won’t let me leave, apparently they called the police’.

He is snoring and I am sat here raging. Happy Friday! I have to be up early for football with my youngest. Tomorrow will be a long day

Aren't 17 year olds just a treasure sometimes?

He's home, he's safe. Try to shake it off and get some rest.

You can read him the mother of all riot acts tomorrow.

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 00:12

Give me toddlers any day

They have been detained as they have a can of spray paint and have caused criminal damage, you’ve said they were drunk and are safe at home having been dropped off by police. Your son has been a dick and his friends have fucked off, lesson learned, get new friends. He’s also been in a licensed premises drinking, the club security kept him safe. They’ve done their job. Your job now is to make sure he knows he’s been a dick and got himself in a risky situation. If he’s caused criminal damage with the spray paint he’ll need to face that charge in court. A harsh lesson to learn for dickish behaviour.

I'd leave a bucket or basin by his bed
A towel
Some water

And some 6am hoovering by his bedroom door! Honestly, the joys of teens 😁

There are four of them preventing him leaving. It’s a Friday night I’m not sure the police are going to be in a hurry to get there

Ha I just skimmed to confirm the sex was obviously a bloke!

Why shouldn’t they detain him? Presumably he was the aggressor in the first place and has now come unstuck.
If he’s just let go to get away with it, I can see what a drain on society he will continue turning into.

RosaElize · 18/11/2023 07:27

Glad he is back home.

They did the right thing and will have done you a favour in the long run, just think where the night could’ve gone if they had not intervened when they did.

We’ve all done stupid things, hope this is a lesson to him. In the cold light of day talk to him about all the things a criminal record would prevent him doing in the future.

Except you really are excusing it. You've painted your son out as a victim being held ransom by four big burley men, which is probably as inaccurate as it is sexist.

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 08:01

Well, 50% of them were as I could hear them whilst I was on the phone to my son (who is 5’4” and blows over in a breeze). Obviously getting a panicked phone call from my child my mind did catastrophise.

WhereIsBebèsChambre · 18/11/2023 08:06

Has he said why he had the spray paint and got his fake I.d from?

Perfectpeonies · 18/11/2023 08:10

Spray paint - was carrying it for a mate (stock teenage answer)

He didn’t have fake ID

GoodVibesHere · 18/11/2023 08:15

I'm glad he's home safe with you. I can imagine the relief - I'd be the same with my mind racing knowing he was 'trapped' with four bouncers. I picture big burly men versus a naive child who might say the wrong thing and get on their nerves or wind them up somehow. Eek!

Obviously you'll need a good chat with him and in particular about having spray paint with him.

RubySunset82 · 18/11/2023 08:17

Glad he’s home OP. I’ve heard some stories over the years with bouncers and not good ones. Best not to get in trouble with them.
